Interesting quick read... Some win, some lose, some come for vacation and leave on probation, but for some Las Vegas is final. http://www.reviewjournal.com/news/death-las-vegas/when-death-takes-vegas-vacation
On my latest trip a man had a heart attack shortly after take off. We landed abruptly in St. Louis so he could be cared for by medical personnel. Thankfully, we had three nurses on board as well as a defibrillator. They were able to get him stable and on oxygen until we could land. The entire crew was calm and collected. It was very reassuring to know they have that sort of training. Also, it's amazing more people don't die on those slick marble shower floors. I know I've come close to cracking my head a few times.
My dad died in vegas in January 2001 (yeah, 2001 was a sucky year for me, then 9/11 happened). He was at the Cal. The day before he was at the bj table and suffered a heart attack and his heart stopped. They defibbed him and took him to the hospital but he checked himself out a few hours later. He was scheduled to return to Maui a day and a half later so he didn't want to spend it in the hospital, saying that he would check with his dr when he returned home. He was on the bj table then went to the bathroom because he wasn't feeling well (he thought it was indigestion or something). His friends didn't realize he left but went to check on him when he didn't return. Too late, they found him slumped in the stall, by then it was too late and they couldn't revive him. We had to jump through hoops to get everything done and get his body back to Maui. Visit the hospital for their release forms, then wait in line at the health department for the death certificate, then to the funeral home to get the paperwork done to ship his body back, then back and forth between health department and funeral home (need to get all the paperwork signed so the body can be released). We spent probably a day and a half getting everything done, waiting in the various lines only to find that we were missing a form or needed to get something signed. Luckily the funeral home took care of the logistics of flying the body back and getting it to a funeral home on Maui but it wasn't a fun trip and I only played craps once but left after a few minutes because I wasn't in the mood to gamble. This was probably the only trip to vegas where I didn't want to gamble at all. Too bad, my dad doesn't like hospitals because of his various issues (bypass surgery, triple bypass, another bypass 10 years later, numerous heart attacks) and so he didn't stay in the hospital as the ER dr suggested. He may have lived longer if he had the hospital crew watching over him but guess he lived a long enough life (74 years old when he passed) and enjoyed himself and died having fun. 3 years later I had a friend whose dad passed away in vegas. He was on a charter and they went to check on him when he didn't show up for the bus to the airport. They found him on the bed, died in his sleep and they had to go through the same hoops to get the body send back to Hawaii.
My BIL died in Las Vegas 2 years ago. I'd be fine dying there too. It's not a problem for me - I won't be there to worry about it. Bill
California hotel and casino, usually we refer to the place as the Cal since many Hawaii people like the hotel and proximity to MSS and other hotels.
I thought about how I would want to go. Vegas on the crap table on a monster roll might be a good way to go but I wouldn't enjoy my winnings. Right after winning the megabucks is another, but also bad because I wouldn't enjoy my winnings. Then I thought about dying while doing the deed (I mean sex, yes, us men have one track minds) but it might not be nice for your partner to have to deal with it. As for dying out of state, not sure if I want to put my relatives through the same hoops that I had to go through but most of the time we don't have a choice where we want to go anyway so whatevers.
This is really depressing. I'm going to Vegas in a couple of days. If you don't hear from me afterwards, you'll know what happened.
Any time I stay at Tunica Roadhouse, the slickest of all my typical stays, I'm a 35-year old penguin especially when drunk or a shower has recently been taken.
...almost took a job there several years back...Clark County couldn't pay me what I was worth ...would have been cool doing the job I love in LV...
Just make sure to write a will leaving all your table winnings to me. I'll enjoy it for ya. I'll make sure to put a bet on 27 for ya.
My college roommate was on a business trip in LV at the Orleans. A co-worker didn't show for a meeting and the body was later discovered in his room. No signs of robbery or foul play. The man was going thru a bitter divorce so I guess stress got him. Could have been the smell of smoke in the Orleans, idk.
One of the main reasons I was sad that the Western closed. I always told my brothers that their motto should have been: The Western...a great place to be found.
