I will just wait and see what the plans are. Interesting read but not sure, so the place will remain closed for at least 2 years? And if they decide to tear down the old south tower and expand the north tower (to add more floors) it may take longer before the hotel portion opens.

I got a good laugh out of the remark about the "already low rates in the area". I guess compared to the strip the rates are already low but compared to previous years the rates seem to be higher than before, esp when you start adding nightly resort fees (for us who don't get comps). Many of us hoped that opening the "grandissimo" will allow more competition and would keep the hotel rates low but after checking out the GG and D that may not be the case.

Couldn't help but notice the obvious 'dis' of the Plaza in that article when referring to pools & sports books.
I do think Derek ought to consider going with fewer, but larger/nicer rooms. Use the "suite" model employed by the Golden Gate.

As for the name? I'd go with something - anything - besides 'Grandissimo'.

Yeah, sounds like he took a few jabs at DTG as well with the parking. But, he did at least complement them on their pool.

Stevens certainly thinks outside the box. I never would have thought of going up and adding more stories to the north tower. the rooms in that tower are actually in good shape. Adding on, he could add a bunch of suites or other options on the new floors. If he builds up, though, I would think they would have to build more elevators so they don't run into the same problem they had at the D. Then, if they removed the south tower, there would be plenty of room for a pool, restaurants, showroom, or whatever else they wanted to build.

Grandissimo? Located downtown? So I guess it would be known as The Downtown Grandissimo?

Geez, that would be as confusing, and unoriginal, as having two casinos using just one letter for their name.
