I don't know what to make of the DTG. I've been a supporter and flipped to a hater and back again about 3 and a half times in the last 2 years.

We want you we want you. We don't want you.

The latest is sending me a great offer that I was ready to book and up my play at the Grand, I call in and they've pulled the offer on me.

Now they come up with a great reason to stay there.

I guess my main problem with the place is they flip-flop on almost a daily basis. Just yesterday I saw an article in the lvrj that they were trying to attract "gamblers" and had been working hard by re-arranging the gaming floor, and ordering the latest stot machines. It seems every day they announce a new strategy and identity, yet don't fully implement it or give it enough time to see if it is going to work.

To me the answer is pretty simple - why do people like to gamble downtown ? Better odds on VP, Slots, craps and blackjack, good looking dealers & cocktail waitresses in skimpy outfits. And a straightforward slot club that allows you to earn free rooms with minimal play.

Why keep trying to re-invent the wheel ?

No, they gave you a great reason to walk the two blocks from the Cal or the Nugget.

I dont think they had the wheel figured out in the first place. Also, the Boyd/Hawaiian thing is a pretty awesome model. Maybe they can wipe the slate clean with a similar canadian thing. But I dont see it working. Hopefully Boyd buys DTG after this experiment fails and names it the "Hawaiian". :)

I hope it works out well for our Canadian friends! Now the DTG has to stick with it and make it work.

Unless I misread the article, you must also be a hotel guest to take advantage of this. But it would still be worth buying a weeknight for it if you're...

This may explain why they yanked offers, I just wonder how much a room costs now. It's not really a deal if you pay big bucks for a room, that was free 6 months ago.

I agree about the flip flopping.
    I feel like I can't trust them.
If this "money at par" promo was going to continue into 2016 it might be worth my while to go there in three weeks and give them some play to get a comped room NEXT time and take advantage of it.
But there is no point to me doing that because it is over this year.
I am comped on Fremont Street, I am not going to pay for a room in order to use this promo.
It seemed to come out of nowhere!

    Promotion ends before my trip.

That's ok, I was sitting here trying to think whether I'd get a better deal on exchange rate by 'washing' 500 in free play then just exchanging, as Im not typically a slot player.

EDIT: oh, you also have to stay there.

I just checked every offer I had from DTG is gone, Including food and free play. Any one from Canada that had offers, check to see if they still have them?

Heh, I thought of that too, but the offer only applies if you are staying there.

Yep, they pulled mine a few weeks ago. I checked yesterday and I have nothing. The last mailer downgraded me from 4 free nights a month to casino rate. I was ready to book, too.

The article sounds like Jim Simms was just hired as CEO yesterday to save DTG. That's not true!
In an article in early July, he already talked about what he wanted to change DTG.
All those actions we talked about here: firing 2/3 dealers, closing tables, cut table opening time,
change floor plan, flip-flop on offers etc., all were his work.

Does anyone have an email address for a host at the DTG that is actually still there? I'd like to ask them some questions.

Update - I sent a request for a host name on their Contact Us! form on the website. Let's see how responsive they are...
