Anybody familiar with hotels and the lay out in Myrtle Beach SC. We’re heading down that way for a first time stay and just looking for some information on stays. We’re thinking on booking the “Blue Hotel” simply because they appear to have the “slickest” web site. Even though this is suppose to be a "road trip" that dosen't involve slot machines, (not my choice), If we have time we might take the casino cruise on the “Big M”.
Any information or insights on either would be helpful. Thanks

What do you plan to do there? Do you want to be on the beach? Near the amusements? Golf courses?

We have friends that go every year, they always stay at Compass Cove. They drink a lot (lol) so check it out yourself. Not sure how someone can go to the same place every year........well unless it's Vegas.

    Hello to responding members,

We’re headed there for a late summer get away. We’re a 50’s/60’s couple, so no kids and no amusements and we don’t golf. So that leaves the beach, eating, drinking and sightseeing. Just hanging out with no agenda for three nights. There seems to be lots to do there, even a “Legends” show, ala the Flamingo, so that’s not the issue, just don’t know which hotel (with reasonable rates) or which section of town to book.

I have never been there and the wife was there decades ago with her family and remembers it being a really nice vacation spot. She doesn’t remember anything about where or where not to stay or recommended location, things like that. So that why I reached out to VBM members.

This started out by her insistence that we go somewhere, just once, that doesn’t have casinos. This December will be our fourth trip to Vegas this year and we’re off to AC next week…you see her point?
I got the “eye roll” when I told her about the casino cruise ship docked there…what can you do …why fight it?

Thanks for the information so far.

Broadway at the Beach is pretty cool, and if you have kids its a great spot. Regardless a must do.

I actually enjoy the Pelicans minor league baseball games..

My ole lady's fam lives in Conway about 12 miles outside of MB.

I live 4 hours away from MB and i've been there countless times. I could help answer anything you need to know about the area.

Hotel Blue - This has been my go to hotel the last 3 or 4 visits. This is a standard gets the job done hotel and nothing is new or nice inside the room. For my wife and I we don't mind it because the price is right but my mother in law refuses to step foot into the rooms. The parking garage is horrible because its a blind turn as you go up and if you don't pay attention you will easily hit another car coming down. They work with the hotel next door so you're able to enjoy heated pools, lazy river and everything else which is nice.

Anything hotel wise that's not on the beach I would avoid.

Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot landing are both fun stops.

The aquarium and the alligator adventure are both worth the trip.

Some of our favorite restaurants are Damon's Grill, Captain Georges (Seafood buffet) and my personal favorite Godfather's Pizza (I love the taco pizza).

If you have time and feel like a little road trip Charleston, SC is 2 hours away and that's a beautiful town with countless things to do.

    Hi stephanamorgan,

Thanks for the reply and the information particularly the hotel description. I appreciate your advice to avoid any hotel that’s “not on the beach”, and by that, I am assuming, we should limit our search to something “beachfront”, along the center of town as opposed to north or south end, yes? Also your assessment of blue Hotel was just the kind of “info-pinion” I was looking for…very helpful. I suppose like most people we like to find reasonable rates or even a bargain, but experience has taught us that we are easily disappointed.

The many activities that you and others have suggested seems to be the easy part of the planning, I know we’ll be out doing and seeing all that we can, including the areas and eating spots suggested in your response. It is just “where to stay” that’s got me fumbling through (sometime misleading) hotel web sites. That’s all I had to go on until now.

Once again, thanks to you and the others who have responded… maybe we’ll VMB chat again. JW

Yes, beachfront is what I was referring to. Anything that's not beachfront is kind of sketchy but that's just my opinion. You will most likely see what i'm talking about when you go there.

North Myrtle Beach is the quieter section and 10 miles north of Myrtle Beach.

Please check the area and make sure nothing is going on around town. You don't want to be in town during bike week or things like that.

Springmaid is a resport I like. They have a pier right in front of the hotel and its at the end of the strip so the beach is not as crowded. I believe they just did a remodel so if you do like what you see there just ask them before you book to make sure you get the new rooms.

If you ask about a particular hotel I might be able to give a quick review on it. I'm 30 and i've been to MB countless times and the rest of my family has been a lot more so I could ask them. I personally feel like in MB you really do pay for what you get out of the hotel (a lot of older hotels in the area).

We've stayed at Marina Inn at Grande Dunes on Amalfi Place twice. Really liked it. Between North Myrtle Beach and central Myrtle Beach, off hwy 17, beach.
Private and public beach access, indoor and outdoor pool, spa, many amenities.

    website: http://www.marinainnatgrandedunes.com/grande.html

Attractions: the Carolina Opry, Aquarium, Broadway at the Beach (has about 15-20 restaurants and shopping), Boardwalk at Myrtle Beach.
