I took a few cab rides and I heard a general consensus among around the 5 cabbies I talked on this past Holiday.

    - The drivers all feel they are getting F'd over with the new metering and taxing on fares and drop.
    - They are feeling the pressure of higher booking or risk getting less days / shitty cabs
    - They all plan to jump to Uber when it relaunches but wonder how the hotels will deal with the club crowds and logistics.
    - Uber pay model works out better for existing cab drivers and they and there is some talk about loose organizing.

Its pretty interesting that basically all the guys said, once Uber goes live again to the Airport / Hotels they plan to hang up driving for cab company.

    they all won't actually jump.

the cab companies will realize they have to do something and will make changes to keep them.

it's how things work when there's competition.

If anything it should help push rates down. They have been creeping up quite a bit lately.

You would think. But the taxi authority just authorized hiking rates and the meter drop.

What with the price of gas the fuel surcharge is obviously silly. Just one example of my irritation with cabs as a service. Hopefully uber brings positive change.

So how exactly would Uber work at the hotels and/or airport? Does the app just tell you the license of the car picking you up, and then you hop in like a friend picking up? I can see that being a logistical traffic nightmare if it gets past a certain volume tipping point.

Yes. The app gives you the plate number of the car as well as the make and model. You can also call or text your driver through an intermediate number that Uber sets up (so that the driver doesn't have your number and vice-versa).

I use Uber every day. I don't see this working for Vegas. McCarran isn't really set up for Uber pickups, and in order for this to work at the casinos, they're going to have to set up separate lanes for Uber pickups/dropoffs. Unless Uber adds a feature where a driver can be sited at a particular casino, the hail system is going to be all screwed up, too.

To be an Uber driver you have to have a clean and decent car, speak English and be friendly. I don't see most cab drivers being allowed to work for Uber.

It could work if they primarily wait in short term parking as they can park for 15 minutes at no charge. I wouldn't want them flooding zero level. That would suck for everyone that has limo service.

There's already a plan in place for Uber at the airport, I don't remember where I read it, but there will be numbered spots in short term parking. and pick ups will be done there.

People will always say the grass is greener,

i used to work in comision sales.

you could go on the computer and see everyone elses sales and figure their commision.

of course when you talked to them they were somehow making about triple what i made like they had access to some secret payment system.

    Happens in every job.

Cabbies think the grass will be greener an uber until of course, they are working for them and realize its an actual job.

And then we'll start getting long-hauled by Uber drivers.

That's the beauty of Uber: they can't get away with long hauling because the driver's phone and your's (if you allow) are tracked by GPS.

There has been one small increase since 2008. Any other increase was a tax.

You don't understant how it works. The price is set BEFORE the uber car gets there. Long-hauling will be dead instantly.
Uber is the best thing to hit LV since gambling.
Bye bye scumbag taxi thieves.

Yes, just not at the airport, yet.

What do you mean the price is set BEFORE? I agree Uber is a good thing for LV, but the price is not set.
