If You Could Shadow . . .

. . . any employee in Vegas, who would it be?

Casino Host?
Cocktail server?
Front desk agent?
Pit boss?
Or even the person responsible for changing all the neon bulbs?

Whose position would you find interesting to know more about?

a casino host. I would love to see what the whale rollers get and demand. Plus, would be nice to know what I could do to make the best of my experience.

 

Executive chef of a huge buffet, like Rio Carnaval or Bacchanal, Wynn, etc. Would love to see the planning, execution, and cooking process to make something this huge happen.

 

Another one would be Head Electrician of a Strip Resort like Wynn, MGM, Aria. Just to see what it takes to keep the electrical going in these huge resorts because (ahem) I'm a...you know... lectrician.

 

On a fun level, I'd like to follow a host. Just to see the different rooms, and see how crazy the really high rollers are.

On the other hand, wouldn't mind watching the network admin at a big place. See how they have their network all laid out.

 

It's really not that interesting.

Small cubicle, unreasonable demands from marginal players, having to put up with being treated like a servant by the players that do matter, constantly trying to figure out how to say no without ever saying no, no home life because you're always on duty, never-ending meetings with bosses that drone on about new programs that make your life more difficult, being called into the office and having to justify everything you do, dealing with all the stupid politics in the corporate environment.

Sure there are some occasional perks like nice dinners out with your players, getting paid to spend time on the golf course, trips to big events.

But it's anything but glamour and glitz.

 

I agree. It's not as sexy a job as a TV makes it out to be. When you are the host on duty, you have to deal with ALL the marginal players.
It's more like being a fire hydrant......everyone pissing on you.

 

Steve Wynn...I'd love to get an inside look at how he makes the decisions that impact his worldwide properties.

 

I think spending time with any of the customer facing positions such as dealer, hotel check-in, bartender, etc would be an interesting study in human behavior. I picture break time for dealers being a lot like teachers in the teachers lounge during their breaks, talking about the drunks, the guys with their 'nieces', and on occassion, the nice folks that tip and actually understand gambling. I can only imagine what a front desk clerk deals with when folks try to ask for a Penthouse suite, because Vegas. And how the bartenders and CW deal with the drunks...they have to have quick hands, quick minds and still remain professional as can be.

 

one of the flair bartenders like Mig or Vaj at Carnaval Court.... i know for sure they get some serious
offers from some real talent.... damn, i'd take the 2nd tiers they leave behind

For real Steve. There's so much myth and superstition surrounding slots, and the slot directors never really speak out (and you couldn't trust them if the did).

With an accounting background I would love to shadow the head of the Cashier cage.

 

call me twistede, but the 1 to shadow would be the hotel physician.....imagine those interactions!

 

There was a thread on twopluswo last year started by a nightshift security guard at one of the hotels who documented all the shenanigans that he saw whilst on his shift. It made for fascinating/hilarious reading.

I love seeing and watching high limit action so I would say a pit boss in the high limit rooms or private salons.

 

For me it would be director of all events. Shows, concerts and so on at mgm. Or maybe food and beverage director/general mgr at Encore/Wynn

 

Good thread. I would either shadow one of the directors of player development or the manager of the Rhino (on audition day hopefully).
