Where is the best place to play blackjack downtown?
Who pays the best on a blackjack?

 

If you want good rules and a fun low cost game try the Golden Gate. They also have a high limit area with good rules.
$25 Plaza has good play and one table paid 2-1 for a Blackjack. A lot of the tables downtown have fair rules but you have to be careful and check before you sit down.

 

FreeBet Blackjack at the D is fun game. A few crabby dealers,though.

 

"best place"? I suppose that depends on what's most important to you...
...for two-deck pitch? Any of the Boyd properties (MSS-Fremont-Cal). all tables are 3:2, although I read a report here that the Fremont had a 6:5 table open a few weeks ago... cannot confirm that.
...for eye candy dealers? Golden Gate after 8PM...all tables are 3:2.
...for best rules for under $25? That would be the 2-deck shoe game at the El Cortez...all tables are 3:2
...for best rules $25+? Golden Gate "high limit salon", or the two deck shoe at the Plaza...
As for who "pays the best on a blackjack?" - that would be every casino downtown except for Binions; I believe they are the only place that's 100% 6:5, but that may have changed... (be careful...there are also some 6:5 tables at a several places...DTG, 4-Queens, Nugget)
Beware of every 'single deck' game you see, except at the El Cortez - all of the rest of them are 6:5 tables.

 

El Cortez has the only single deck 3-2 Black jack in all of las Vegas

 

Fremont definitely had a $5 6:5 continuous shuffle game. I played one hand. Assholes.

 

To be fair, I forgot to add the $15-to-$25 6-deck shoe at the Nugget... 3:2, DAS permitted, H17, but they do allow surrender! So, good rules if you don't mind playing 6-deck.

 

I like the D and Golden Gate for blackjack. Rules are good, especially in the "High Limit" areas and the scenery is excellent at night.

I'm curious why some of you guys like the D and GG. the GG and the D pretty much just have 6 deck with CSM for a .618 house advantage, while DD at DTG, Plaza or El cortez is .45 house advantage. The only DD at D or GG is in high limit area at $50 min.

the DD at the Boyd properties isn't great either. None of them allow double after split, or resplitting aces leaving a house edge of .60.

The best house edge in all of Vegas is the El Cortez single deck at .193. That doesn't even take into account counting.

 

If you take into account drink service, scenery or fun factor, the GG game is the best value in DT

As for the single deck at El Cortez, the dealer in my experience is mechanical, the table is often dead and rarely full, and drink service is spotty at times.

Also variance will make the difference between odds at less than 0.4 percent fairly irrelevant in the short term. I have yet to win (double or bust 100 dollar buy in) playing at the Elco SD in a half dozen attempts whereas I'm over 50 percent at the GG.

 

Well, ambiance is a factor which wasn't asked about. Personally, I don't play much at the D or the GG because I can't hear myself think with the extremely loud and, to my taste, crappy music. I like ogling the dealer dancers as much as the next guy, but if I'm playing BJ I want the best chance of making some money. The ONLY decent games at the D and GG are in the high limit pit, the rest have continuous shuffle machines which I hate. My experience at the El Cortez has been much different than yours. I have played single deck there a lot and have been been pretty successful over all.

I also enjoy playing at the MSS because I can get their craft beers at the table. However, since their rules aren't great, I bet less there than I do at the 'Tez. I play at the Plaza because I have gotten to know a lot of their staff over many years and I did like the DTG. haven't been there since they moved the games into the corner, though.

 

I like the GG "high limit salon" 2-deck game.
There are times when it's a $15 minimum...and yet, the CSMs will be packed & I'll be playing head-to-head against the dealer...

I also prefer the DD game at El Cortez over the single-deck game.

As for Boyd, I give them grief during every trip about not allowing DAS... but here's the thing - they always have plenty of $5 & $10 3:2 DD blackjack available - even in the mornings...so, they will continue to get plenty of my play.

I rarely play 6 or 8-deck shoes, or CSMs... but when I do, I just as soon do it at GG as anywhere else...for all of the usual reasons!

 

Are there any $5 DD with DAS shoe games downtown? Call me odd but I do not like touching the cards in BJ.

I agree on GG, I got my ass kicked when I played but at night it is a blast. I do not count so CSM does not bother me at all. When I went "all in"f for $25 and had to reach to pocket to double, pulled a monkey for 21, and dealer backdoored a 21... fml

 

Wanker - El Cortez @ $5 minimum... Plaza @ $25 minimum... Golden Gate @ $25 min., but I've seen (and played) that table at $15 during the afternoon & on 'slower' week-nights.
I love the El-Co game... they actually deal about 2/3 of the two decks...they use a pre-set cut point, cutting away about a third. So, it's very consistent, if you get my meaning, (1.5 decks in play...about 6 of each card, mathematically)

ain't that the truth! I wouldn't play at csm table unless you gave me the money, I don't care how cute the honeys are. As far as the complaint that the singe deck is rarely full at EC, I wish that was experience. A full table kills the opportunity to vary your bet based on count. I actually prefer the DD shoe at EC because the single deck is a full table and dealing all the cards up on the shoe makes it easier for me to count. Now hanging out at the bar at GG, taking in the sights and talking to Valeria all night, count me in!

Shoe or pitch?

 

I've never seen DAS at MSS, and it's not listed on the Wizard's survey (which of course is not perfect and conditions change all the time). That's one of the reasons that some people don't play there.

Myself, I love the ambiance at MSS--very relaxing, with laid-back players from Hawaii and elsewhere, good house brew and a countable $5 DD game. (Even for a mediocre counter like myself.) But the lack of DAS is a drawback.

 

DAS at MSS? I don't think I have ever seen that.
