So I'll be visiting sin city this coming July for a convention and will have a little bit of free time on my hands to play my favorite game Roulette! Yes I know this is not the smartest of choices for my gaming pleasure but it's what I like! To each his own right!! :peace:

I've been reading threads and posts about where to play and how to play and couldn't seem to find my questions answered so I thought I'd start a new thread. To best answer my questions of "what type of roulette game is right for my playing style" and "how do you like my playing style" (yes I'm prepared to have my strategy run through the ringer by all the math wizards).

So first let me explain my playing style. I'm a low roller, I usually only have about $500 bankroll. And in true gambling style I know that my bankroll is equal to the exact amount I am prepared to lose. Leave the credit cards at home, :nono:
I came up with my strategy to win slowly, and to not blow my bankroll in one session. So if that doesn't sound good to you this strategy is not for you. Plus I'm a hit it and quit it gambler so once I hit my $50 or $100 goal I make like a tree and split.

I start with $160 buy-in. Betting outside (black/red) only. $5 bets. This strategy takes advantage of any streak. So if you don't believe that streaks happen, then this strategy is not for you. My first 5 bet goes on whatever color hit last (yes I know the odds are the same but like I said before if you don't believe that streaks happen this isn't for you). If I win "GREAT" i collect my winnings and keep my $5 bet on that color and so on and so forth until the opposite color comes up or I hit my $$ goal. When I lose, I switch to that last winning color double my bet. Basically whatever color was the last winner is the color you will bet on the next roll (when 0/00 come up I just stay on the last black or red bet that won last). However, instead of doubling until my bankroll is wasted I have a $80 and out rule. With my $160 buy in I'm covered for 5 chances at winning my roll. 5+10+20+40+80+155. Like most people I don't like betting three figure sums of money. I'm okay with betting $80 but some serious puckering happens when i'm asking myself to bet $160 on a single roll. So that's why I have an 80 and out rule, it saves me from blowing my bankroll in any given session. As longs as i get a few double color hits every few rolls I'm still winning. So say I've gotten lucky and the first dozen rolls are good to me and I'm up $35. If the wheel takes a dive and I lose 5 in a row, with my 80 and out rule I've still got $40 dollars in my pockets when I leave the table. Buffett and beer money right!! If the wheel is really good to me and i double my money and get up $160 (32 wins) then basically any win after that is money in your pocket if you still want to keep gambling with this strategy. So say I got $200 up then lost 5x for the 80 and out. I'm still leaving the table with $45 dollars in my pocket. Moral of this story is you live to play another day. Personally it hard to stay at a table once I've got my $100 goal. Like most people will recommend, roulette is a hit it and quit it game. Hit your goal then hit the hay, live to play another day.

So now that you know my strategy I'm really curious as to where and what type of roulette game is best to play. Video roulette (run by a computer) isn't my first pick due to the fact that when playing alone with the computer I think they can tell when I've got the big $40 and $80 bets on a certain color and will do the opposite because of the big bet. Table roulette is a little too slow for my betting style and can take FOREVER to win my $50 or $100 goal for the session. I read a post awhile back that laid out all the different roulette games that Vegas offered. Here it is......

At NYNY they have at least 3 different kinds of electronic roulette:

Rapid Roulette: this is where players sit at a betting terminal and buy in with money that is collected by a "dealer" the dealer spins the ball on a wheel and enters the number in a terminal. This has regular roulette payouts.

Bally's Video Roulette: these look like a slot machine where players feed bills in to the machine, pick numbers and then at the front top of the game there is a video representation of a wheel that spins and shows where the ball lands. These ones have the short odds at a few casinos (straight up bet paying 32-1 or 34-1, split bet paying 16-1 or 17-1). These are single player machines.

Organic Roulette: these are colored black and red, they are a group of betting terminals, usually 4-8, that are around a pop-o-matic style bubble that has a physical roulette wheel where the ball is shot out the side. This has regular roulette payouts.

IGT's Roulette Revolution: NYNY used to have this as well, but I am pretty sure they got rid of it about 2 years ago. Its like Organic Roulette but silver in color and instead of having a physical wheel they have a big video screen in the middle of the betting terminals that shows the results. A couple of years ago all the MGM casinos had Roulette Revolution but most have replaced it with Organic Roulette.

I'm thinking Rapid Roulette or Organic Roulette will be my best bet, what do you guys think?

I'll be staying at Bally's during my stay and have monorail tickets so getting from casino to casino shouldn't be too hard.

Where can I find the best Rapid Roulette and Organic Roulette machines (terminals) on the strip and are they $5 minimums?

And OMG, if I could find a single 0 $10min table I would be in low roller heaven!

Thanks in advance for any advice. With my strategy I usually walk away with $50-$200 depending on my luck for the night. Unless i drop my last bit of bankroll in a slot machine on the way out the door, I usually never leave completely busted out.

Ok odds masters, you can now feel free to debunk my system. LOL!

If you think the computer is going to cheat you then you should only play a crowded table and hope someone betting bigger is better the opposite of you.

No system can overcome the house advantage in roulette.

Like Snidely mentioned, no system can overcome the HA on roulette. But your system as described is pretty disciplined and smart.

I would rather play it on a regular table. More fun and social that way.

I do like the social part of playing at the table, it's usually my first choice because I'm weird about thinking the computer is trying to cheat me somehow (I know that's dumb but I've just seen it too often.) I'll play the video roulette (slot machine style games) for a few minutes and will stop at like $20 up or so but never sit at one for any length of time and 80 out. I've never profited that way. But I have heard of the Rapid Roulette style terminals where you bet on a screen but a dealer still rolls the ball on a real wheel. Do you guys know where or if Vegas still has these and if they are by chance $5 min.

Hi. You're running a martingale system on that betting sequence, most of the esteemed gambling wisdom would say that you will eventually lose. You are risking about 30% plus of you're bankroll and as you will know, for each 5 bet sequence and any losing run will wipe that out apart from $5. I can see a few small wins will help reduce losses, but I am not a fan of the approach you are using. However, with that said it's your money and your entertainment, so I make no judgement - if you saw some of the crazy things I have done on a roulette wheel you would know why I cannot criticise you.

Roulette is tremendous fun, but for me the weakness in Vegas (USA) is the double zero wheel, I know there are European wheels but the lowest minimum bet size I found in March 2015 was $25 at both the MGM & Mirage. It was $100 at the Bellagio. Also one thing I noticed this year was some dealers alternating a big ball and then a smaller ball each spin - never seen that before and I did not like it. I'm a streak and pattern bettor, so I am sure it is designed to throw the short term sequences out - long term the averages will of course even out. When I saw that on a couple of wheels, I coloured up and left. As if a double zero wheel did not have enough of a house edge!?

I wish you luck on your endeavours - a nice winning streak and your approach could work out nicely. Your money management and planned disciplined approach looks solid, although I still consider risking $155 from $500 bankroll is too high.

Small ball/big ball? I'll have to look out for that. Why don't you just bet every other spin then?

You're very right it is a altered martingale system and I know casinos LOVE  a martingale player. I just find it easy to play and I try to play it as smart as I can without breaking the bank. I've won and been burned on this strategy but I only get burned to the tune of $155 instead of double or triple that but when i get on a good table it's not that hard to get up $100 and hit the door. I guess the key to this is not getting too greedy and quitting while you're ahead and I'm usually not too greedy especially if they are making me work hard for it. The only time I get caught and burnt is when I'm chasing the $160 mark. Most of the time I can make the mark on a good table but when I'm on a table that's making me really work for it and I'm chasing the $160 mark i'll 80 out before I get there and be down $30-40 from my original $160 buy in. That's why most of the time if I hit my $100 goal I'll color up and jump to a different table to try my luck. Because the longer you play the HA will get ya!

I'd still like to know more from anyone who has played Rapid Roulette with the terminal, real dealer, and real wheel. What did you think and what were the usually minimum bets?

Hi, I played rapid roulette when it first came to Caesar's Palace some years ago, I liked it a great deal, all the same rules without the madness of the chip placing and rude people. Very easy to repeat bet and as I recall the minimums were the same as other tables. Things have moved on since then, but the experience was very good. I have not played since as I do like the table experience if the table is not too busy. Just for information I never ever bet on automated wheel, either real or digital.

You seem to know what your goals are on your sessions - modest regular gains and trying to dodge the major losing runs. As you rightly say, the longer you play the HA will get you. I'm guessing if you could double your bankroll you'd be very happy.

for 160 my bets are 50 straight on 16 and 17, 50 16/17 split, and 10 on the zeros split, hit a homerun, swing again or next table

Your system is basically the martingale system. It cannot and it will not ever overcome the house advantage. Any system that can has either broken the laws of math or is cheating. It's a high variance strategy but doesn't do anything in the long run. Also if a video machine were "to know when you make a big bet" that would be an illegal machine and that casino liable for fines and possible gaming sanctions. I don't care how people bet their own money as discussions of martingale get people all flustered here, just don't delude yourself into thinking it reduces the house edge.

I would do your betting at a crowded love table. The play would be slower so you'd get more time at a table.

I was walking through Paris a couple of days ago, didn't notice the name of the roulette game I saw, real wheel like Organic, very few betting terminals, seems like only 4. Never saw the video roulette you mentioned at Ballys, I beleven the one I saw there was Organic,, which shold seve your purpose jus fine. Just down the street the Ling has 2 Organic games by the bar. $3 minimum, 50c chip placement. I know that doesn't matter for your style of play, fit right in for mine, played there several days.
