Broke my foot a few weeks ago, thought I would be out of the boot by now but no such luck, will be several more weeks. Now I have to do Vegas in a freaking boot but also have to deal with TSA. Better than no Vegas I guess but still a PITA. Not looking for sympathy, just wanted to share my frustration. I have been looking forward to this for what seems like eons.
Ahhhhh yes, the boot. I fractured my ankle in a bad car wreck, and had 2 pins put in. I remember walking around in that for months. It gets toasty during the summer in Texas. And, yeah, TSA might be a pain.
You are still lucky. At least you still get to go to Vegas. Since September of last year, I have cancelled three trips to Vegas because of health reasons. Yesterday, I just cancelled a trip for next week. I don't know when I will ever make it back to Vegas. Count your blessings. It could be worse.
I'd rather not go than limp around in a boot through crowds, but that's me. Sorry you have to deal with that.
Getting thru TSA could be a pain. And dealing with inconsiderate and impatient travelers who might bump into you or (heaven forbid) your foot. Keep a positive attitude and try to take it easy and take your time. Good luck on your trip and have a great time!
Bummer. Is a boot worse than a cast. I broke my ankle quite a few years ago and the cast SUCKED! I still have a freakin dent in my leg from where the cast was.
I've traveled with a walking boot. TSA isn't really too much of a hassle. They'll ask you if you can take it off to run it through the scanner. If you can't, they'll just swab it. Now the walking around with it in Vegas - that will be a total pain in the ass. Win big so it'll be a non-issue.
I've done Vegas once in a walking cast and once in a boot. TSA just swabbed them. Really wasn't much of a delay. It does reduce walking around a bit but still better than not being in Vegas. Have great trip despite the boot!
Get a handicapped room - the shower has grab bars to hang onto while you shower standing on one foot! I've worn a boot flying to Montana to tour Custer Battlefied, followed by a trip to Vegas. Broken foot. TSA was not a problem, both times pulled me aside, swabbed the boot and away I went. Had absolutely no pain walking in the boot - and I walked a lot! Without the boot = yeow, ouch...don't try it. Nuisance taking it off and on for showering and not being able to put any weight on it - but still a minor inconvenience overall. A broken foot and a boot is not enough to keep me out of Vegas! Don't let the boot slow you down - have a great time.
I agree. I had to rent one for a friend during a recent Vegas trip. I called the bell desk a few days before the trip and told them how long we would need it for and it was waiting at check in. She definitely appreciated it after trying to walk to three nearby casinos and realizing that Vegas blocks are pretty long. Good luck on your recuperation.
steerable knee walker is a good substitute for crutches -- I have seen several people using these. Plus you can add a cup holder!
I think the cast is worse. With the boot, you can at least take it off to take a shower, and sleep. And, I'd suggest getting a cane from Walgreens. It'll serve 2 things. 1. Other people notice a cane a lot more than the cast. So, they'll move out of your way more. 2. Even if it doesn't feel like it, you might need it by the end of your trip. Most of the time I don't need one, but in Vegas I use it. After 3 days of walking/standing my ankle gets about twice as big. And, that's with a wrap on it. And, look at it this way, you can board early for free.
Great advice by all. No way I would cancel my trip over this, just lamenting the pain in the neck aspect. Guess I can look forward to early boarding!
