Hey guys, I'll be staying at the Downtown Grand on a last minute mini vacation. I have never stayed at the Downtown Grand. I'll arrive Friday and will be leaving Sunday morning. What should I expect in terms of food, VP and craft beers? I have heard that they are making some changes over there? Thanks in advance.
The place changes so often, I hesitate to say this, but they did improve the VP tables quite a bit. Craft beer-forget about it. Try MSS or 4Q for for good draft beer. No opinion on food, but many here rave about Pizza Rock.
The vp at Furnace Bar is descent. There isn't a huge selection of beer but you can get pretty much anything they have comped. Pizza Rock is awesome. They have a good beer selection if you're into craft. The players club is supposed to be updated to have tiers but I can't find anything online about. If they have any info at the casino can you please post an update?
Hopefully, they still have video poker by the this weekend.. Its looks like they are down to approx. 10 table game in the whole place.... Sure looks and sounds like they may be on the way out...
So after staying this weekend, I wasn't too impressed. The pool however is nice. Pizza Rock was good. Table games don't open until 2pm! Ridiculous! The VP was OK at the Furnace Bar and the new players club offers 50% in free play on total losses in the first 24 hours. The room was very nice and quite big. What really got me though, is the valet situation. They had a sign that said $11 for valet. When I checked in they did mention that they aren't comping the valet if your staying at the casino. What they did fail to mention that not only was it $11, but it was flippen $11 per day. Even if you never take your car out for the whole weekend! I gave them my .02 and emailed the casino this morning. That's horrible!
Was there at the end of August right after noon to play our LVA FP coupon. . As others mentioned table games don't open until 2. Place was really dead. Played our coupons, made a few bucks, and left. I really don't get how they can hold people there with no table games until 2pm. Ended up gambling at the 4Queens and Fremont al afternoon.
Ouch. I self park. The check in clerk sticks a barcode over the code on the ticket and it's free for the duration of my stay.
...stayed at DTG at the end of August...completed an online survey afterwards and made it very clear that their selection of beers in the casino was THE WORST of any casino I've been in...Sam Adams was as interesting as it got...very disappointing...
Craft beer on draught (Lagunitas IPA) is available at Art bar and the Commissary. Can get it in plastic cup to take into casino. comped beer is the usual casino crap: Bud, Coors, Miller, and Heinie
The parking situation is the worst of all downtown. Most charge these days, but they just take the piss. (English euphemism that most will agree with.)
Check my trip report, I posted a picture of the new player club benefits and coin in. I was there the 2nd day of change over, and managed to hit the second tier of their club.
I just got back from an overnight stay last week, and I really liked the place. Staff was excellent, food at S&O their 24 hour cafe was really good and prices very reasonable. Not a craft beer drinker, but saw people at the bar drinking Angry Orchard and Fat Tire, so some variation in what they are stocking in the Furnace bar coolers. Pizza Rock was great and they have delivery service from Commisary. I talked to the staff quite a bit who were all upbeat about the new CEO, table game changes which does not effect closing times for table games, and floor slot changes. My experience was nothing but great from room, casino, pool, bar, dinning, and front desk / casino staff. Plan on returning soon.
Hmm, that would be a new one to me. I thought they were including parking in the resort fee. I was not charged additional to valet park, but then again I put alot of coin thru for one night.
I visited Downtown Grand over Labor Day weekend to use their pool and try my odds with their $1000 loss redemption promotion. I really enjoyed my time. The pool is straight up awesome! They have padded loungers, couches, and a ton of umbrellas that are all free to use. Decent priced pool bar as well. Such a relief from the Strip pools where you have to show up early for a decent spot and pay for anything too nice, which usually includes shade. My girlfriend spent more time then myself at the pool area and loved it as well. I can't stress enough how the lack of big crowds at a pool area is so damn nice in Vegas. There were plenty of people there, but still plenty of places to sit. The casino was great as well, maybe a little slow on the drink service at first, but that would be the only complaint. Ended up hitting a decent jackpot, so didn't need to use the loss redemption promotion, so I'm sure that added a bit to my enjoyment. The table game area did look kind of sad tucked away in a little corner. But, the hottest cocktail waitress was handling drink service in the table game area, so at least someone was trying to lessen the issue a bit. I plan on going back someday. I'd like to stay the night, but the rooms cost a bit more than other options Downtown and I usually go for the cheapest option (MSS, 4Queens, El Cortez, etc.). I hope they find success with the new CEO!
