So the group I'm going to Vegas with for some reason is insisting on going to Joes Seafood in the Forum Shops even though we're going to SW the following night. The reviews are good but it seems overpriced and I think Wynn buffet would be better but my group is dead set on it. So should I ditch my group over this?

If you are talking about Joe's Stone Crab, you should go.

I'm sure there are restaurants at the Wynn that would be a viable option over Joe's, but a buffet? No.

It is very good. And pricey -- Service is excellent. They used to have a very large platter that included a little of everything -- fish, shrimp, scallops, and oysters -- I noticed the last time I wanted to eat there - it is no longer available on the menu -- It was around $30 for the platter.

Their menu is a-la-carte - the sides are big enough for at least two people. Is everyone set on dining together all the time? Do you want to be the odd man out?

Don't ditch your group. Joe's is one of our favorite places to dine when in Vegas. It has a large, diverse menu that is great for a group. Something for most everyone - prime steaks, large selection of seafood, and sandwiches. As far as being pricey, Joe's is not considered on the same level as SW but will be less expensive.

For the price, I'd do the Wynn buffet instead. Plenty of seafood, along with everything else a person could need.

I would ditch the group and go for the buffet.

When are you going? If you are going during stone crab season, definitely yes.

I wouldn't miss eating at Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab when in Vegas. A must eat and I'd choose it over any buffet. That's an easy choice.

Looking at the menu I'm leaning towards the 22 oz. butter poached lobster tail. Anyone tried this before and what you recommend as a side dish?

The hash browns are killer. The servers will give you good advice if in doubt.

A couple warnings. This time of year the stone crabs will be frozen, but the quality should be OK. Also, the restaurant is extremely noisy. If your group is more than four you likely will not be able to hear anyone across the table from you.

They make a very good Bloody Mary.

The wine list seems reasonably priced too

To the original poster's question, It's good, but if you can't get Stone Crabs I'd skip it. There are plenty of other places to go. I've got a reservation next week at Tom Collichio's Heritage Steak next week. Looking forward to trying that place

Joe's has the best steak I've had in Vegas to date.
