Booking and not using - sort of

Ok 10 years on this board and I never ask questions but I really could use some advice. I have trouble looking up old posts and I am sure this has been asked before, if not then I feel bad for even asking this.
I know all about double/triple booking but my question is this, if I have comped rooms and check in myself and check out myself what is to stop me from having other family stay in my double books? Dirty pool I know but just curious. Would probably not have the nerve anyway as I have a huge guilt problem.

 

There's nothing to stop you and honestly, many of us do it.

Don't worry about feeling guilty. The rooms comps you get are something you've earned so you're not really playing dirty pool.

If you are going to let family use your comped room, it's a good idea to check in with at least one member and have their name put on the bill. This ensures that if their room card doesn't work (happens all the time), at least one of them has their name on the register and can get a new key without you being present.

Many people do this all the time and I'm sure the casino's know when we check in, that we're sharing comps. Just be sure you trust the family members since it's your credit card on the booking.

 

I am doing it in 3 weeks when I check my son and his friends in PHo while we are the Monte Carlo.

 

You could do that, have people stay in your double booked rooms, but one issue people have is: if you are traveling together and expecting to spend a lot of time with the other person, like meeting up each day, you can't use your comps/offers to get them a free room at the same property or even within the same chain.

So as an example: if you are using a comp to stay at MGM Grand and your brother wants to come along on the trip, but wants his own room, you can't get him a room at MGM Grand or any other MLife property. If you are planning to meet up each day one of you will have to commute to the other from wherever you can get the other room.

Another big issue is: you are responsible for the room. You don't want to get home and a month later you get your bill and its saying there are a bunch of mini bar charges or dining charges to the room and you have to pay them and then collect the money off the others, etc, etc. - some people will be easier to trust than others if you say "don't eat from the mini bar or charge stuff to the room" but there are always inconsiderate jerks out there that'll take advantage of a situation and might be hard to collect the money off them later.

 

One other consideration would be if you were staying at Aria and you got a comp room for friends at Caesars, and didn't play at CET. CET would view it as no play gaming days (for whatever # of nights, +1 day). The no play stay could affect your future offers.

 

You are over thinking this.

Let's say you go to Vegas and share a room with your sister. Normal stuff, right? You check yourself in, and she also stays with you. Bingo - somebody else is staying in the room. What if you stay somewhere else one night, or stay out all night and never use the room. No problem, right?

Same thing if you just did not stay there at all. Or you just never stayed there. How do they know WHO is in the room? Answer, they do not.

Same thing works with a PAID room. You check in and check out, but somebody else actually stays in the room.

By the way - you do NOT need to check out. You just leave. Repeat, you do NOT need to check out. You just leave.

 

No question is silly when you are gathering info from a bunch of Vegas people. I'm a gambler so if I want 3 rooms/suites I just ask my host. He takes care of two suites and the third or fourth I get at players rates, which depending on my play can be looked after or not. I agree with one of the comments above, if you do have more than one room, put someone you trust (a son, daughter, bf) on the room, as they may have someone staying with them who forgot their key at 4am and trying to get in their room and they can't get one at front desk and cause they are not on the room, you get called to go down. When I check in with lets say 3 rooms, I make sure the other 2 rooms have someone else's credit card to take any charges. Room is still in my name but I can put say my son's credit card on the room for incidentals (including mini-bar). Double booking at same chain example MLIFE, you can't. (well yes there are people who can but I'm not THAT big of a fish. There could be two buy in tournaments at 2 MLIFE hotels) I have friends who are smaller players but they may get two or three offers with MLife hotels and find on check out/in that they are not allowed more than the one comped trip consecutively. Fine if you book at room at Mandalay Bay and one at Caesars, different chain, but I agree with another comment, if you don't gamble at both (I am just assuming you gambled a bit to get your comps)...you will get noted for your stay and no play. But heck if you can gamble at both, by all means double it up! (just not at same chain).

 

You guys are so awesome. Reading the responses leaves me with no guilt. They are earned comps like you say. and I did forget that I don't actually need to check out. Excellent point about the trust issue/credit card but I would probably put my mom or sister in there. I am the alpha female in the family so I know they would behave. I will still concentrate my play at my main casinos so no worries there.

It is not unusual for me to triple or even quadruple book at MSS, Plaza, 4Q and DTG. Some I do for family members, others to just get free play. I try and give each place play about 4 hours on at least one day. My offers drop off sometimes and then they are on their own, but after a few months have passed, the offers start again.
The only place I had a weird experience was at DTG. They actually called my cell to see if I was still planning on using the room. Some here have speculated that since there was no room card reader activity, they called? I have no clue.
