This is a must read! http://lasvegassun.com/vegasdeluxe/2015/apr/15/steve-cyr-spills-secrets-payouts-big-time-wins-los/
Thanks! Great article and rings true. I have the first edition of his book, and am contemplating buying his new edition.
Yes, a good read. Little longer than expected, but good. As to new edition - is it really anything different?
Awesome read, however one section of the article was inaccurate: "I reminded her of that the other day because now the only place I can’t work is Utah and Hawaii, 48 of our 50 states; it’s exploded. Now I work in California, I work for casinos in Florida and Kansas and Kentucky. " I personally can confirm there are no licensed casinos in KY. Unless there are an underground casinos in KY or he is considering the ones over the river in IN as KY casinos, that statement is bullshit.
This was amusing, emphasis mine. "The negative is that the guy loses $100,000, he knows about his airfare, he knows he should get a discount if he pays quick, and he knows about all the comps. Back in the day, a guy lost 15 grand, you comped his dinner and he was shaking your hand."
That's why I didn't buy the 2nd Ed. I'm interested in specific gambling stories, like the ones he told about Larry Flynt in the article. I just don't know if there are enough new stories in the 3rd edition to make it worthwhile to purchase, compared to the first edition.
There's a more recent Thrillist article about Steve Cyr: https://www.thrillist.com/entertainment/nation/confessions-of-the-man-who-wins-big-when-you-lose-it-all-in-vegas. It's more depressing than the LVS article.
LVS: Thrillist: LVS: Thrillist: he just makes this shit up as he goes along. the numbers change with each interview. he's absolutely full of shit.
I would GUESS that the stories are generally true and I would GUESS he shoots from the hip with the actual facts, and embellishes the stories. Just by guess.
Is it me or are all of the places that he mentioned he works with are considered "has beens"? I wouldn't give real play to any of those places besides Caesars. Also, what shifter quoted above means Cyr is lying about everything and probably reminiscing about his past when he had big players at the properties he worked with. Would love to read his other book but Maybe he is promoting his new book?
He does seem very good at telling the world how good he is. Also, getting fired multiple times but it never being his fault. That said, the Whale Hunt book is an amusing read if taken as a work of fiction.
