So, I've never actually been in Vegas on Halloween despite having taken nearly four dozen trips over a period of almost 20 years. I've never really cared one way or another - I haven't tried to book Halloween but I haven't tried to avoid the date either.

With this year's Halloween falling on a weekend, I assumed it would be fairly busy. But I noticed that most strip hotels have much higher rates on the few weeks before and after. So is Halloween not a big deal in Vegas or is it simply a matter of other bigger events/conventions/etc. taking place during the surrounding dates?

Also, what's the general vibe in the casinos, on the strip, etc? Fun? Annoying? Or just your garden variety weekend on The Vegas Strip?

(If I do go that weekend, I won't actually be wearing a costume nor heading to any costume parties or the clubs. I just figure it might be fun to see all the costumes.)

Lots of costume wearing people on the strip and downtown. You don't have to wear a costume.

I went last year and there was lots of costumes. Downtown I found very crowded and hard to walk through Fremont Street as there were tons of people in front of the bands. The strip didn't seem to be very over crowed though. You won't be out of place whether you were a costume or not.

I was in Vegas last Halloween. It seemed that Downtown had lots of people out and about in costume, not so much on the Strip. However, there was a Phish concert during that time, and some of those folks were a sight to behold...

While you may stay on the strip, downtown is a great place to visit Halloween night. We were there last year and it was so much fun we're going back this year. We figure it'll be even crazier since it's a Saturday (it was Friday last year). There's even a Halloween parade down east Fremont. It had a bunch of Tony Hseih's Burning Man art vehicles. Amazing - huge, fire-breathing with built in dance floors and rave music. They set up later on east Fremont for a public party.

I love Halloween in Vegas. One of the top people watching weekends, no doubt. I've never gone in costume, but I've always had loads of fun.

Excellent. I figured there would be some good people-watching opportunities. (Congrats on the new digs, btw.)

Thanks for all the responses, guys and/or gals!

Lots of the clubs have costume contests, if that's your thing. You'll drink yourself to death if you make a drinking game out of naughty nurse or probably any other naughty x costume.

We usually spend Halloween night at Toby Keith's and/or Gilly's as they have a live band and dancing. Have never done any of the paid parties like Fetish Ball. Probably cost more than I want to just out of curiousity to see what goes on. There are some haunted houses near/on the strip that the wife has no interest in, so I can't report on whether they're worth the money.

As for prices, I think they might treat it as a holiday. I also know that SEMA hits right after Halloween. I haven't really looked at conferences this year, but I guess there could be something before as well, though I don't recall any really large conference going on before Halloween last year.

Okay, I gotta ask, what do you mean by "be careful covering your face in the casinos"?

And if you're Jared, how are you going to get a date into the clubs, paper? Aren't they strict about checking IDs?

Lol. Yeah, I'm sure there's a ridiculous number of "sexy/naughty/slutty____" costumes. In fact, I'm counting on it!

Surprisingly, the prices are fairly cheap that weekend compared to the weeks prior and following. At least when looking at rack rates. (I'm a degenerate - I'm sure as hell not gonna pay for a room in Vegas!)

I think Jared must include senators or congressmen on his guest list. How else does it take them 8 years to "investigate" when they have him on tape admitting to it?

Strip wise I haven't seen much until after midnight. Then it gets better. Really not like one might think it would be like in Vegas.

If you have never been to vegas on Halloween, you are missing out on one of the funnest parties of the year, and with it falling on a Saturday this year, I think it will be a blowout, starting Friday night. I've been many times, and am going again this year. Because many of the pools close on or around the first part of November, it's kind of a celebration of the end of pool season.

As others have said, downtown will have the highest concentration of people in costume, but you will see quite a few at the strip properties, especially later at night.

If you are into people watching, this is the weekend for you!

However, if your easily offended, this is not the weekend for you. Girls today don't need much of a reason to walk around naked, and thank goodness most of the ones I've seen in vegas lately have the bodies to do so. I've seen many, many girls just walking around in bra and panties (The skimpy kind), and Many guys walking around in bra & panties also - lol.

I had a blast last Halloween staying in the center strip area, and venturing to the Hard Rock.
I'd do it again in a heart beat.
My TR has lots of pictures of people in costumes (it might have been moved to the After Dark section).

It makes it easier to play "Spot the Hooker" because they're the group dressed conservatively by comparison to the bachelorette party from Indiana all dressed in various sexy <insert superhero/teacher/schoolgirl> costumes.

And that is in no way a complaint, merely an observation. Vegas and New Orleans are my two favorite places to visit during Halloween.

My favorite Vegas trip of the year! 5 of the last 7 Halloweens have been in Vegas and it never disappoints.

Good stuff, gang! Thanks for all the great responses. Sounds like it's a good time.

How about the crowds in the restaurants and in the casino?

Do I need to worry about making dinner reservations? I'll be solo and I almost never bother with reservations when I'm alone. I've never really had an issue getting a table or eating at the bar on a typical weekend - even at the nicer and/or more popular places.

Are table minimums any higher than a "generic busy weekend"? Are decent VP machines any harder to come by?

    Thanks again!
