So my first couple of Vegas trips were on a budget, then I graduated college had some extra income and with no mortgage/family etc...I never really had a budget for my Vegas trips.

But now I'm flying my 21 year old cousin out today and this will be his first Vegas trip (I covered his flight and hotel) so I will have to watch my own budget and also don't want to make him feel like he's missing out....sorry to say I have forgotten all the fun/free things that are available in Vegas.... and where all the cheap gambling is.

We will be staying Fri and Saturday night at Planet Hollywood...so here is what I want to get a general idea of

Where can I find cheap ($5 a hand) blackjack on the strip on the weekend....if not its ok I'm willing to go downtown so my cousin whose not a huge gambler can get more for his money

Also who has some good free play offers? My cousin doesn't have any of the players cards so he's a first timer I think that's a good way to squeeze out some extra juice

Besides the obvious (fountains, volcano, conservatory) free stuff on the strip any other big ones I'm just missing?

I chose planet hollywood because it has decent cheap food options (earl of sandwich buffet etc..) but any other good priced food joints around there?

He's not even a huge drinker so that saves me some big bar tabs! will just have to hrab a bottle of titos at the ABC store

Thank you All I will be checking this periodically...my cousin is already in the air and I am about to fly out of AZ!

If you are looking for 'free' things to do, MGM is now offering 20-30 min guided open house tours of the Cirque production 'KA' on Tuesdays at 11am which might be interesting. Pinball Hall of Fame is always fun and inexpensive.

For eats, I am looking forward to trying the new Shake Shack by Monte Carlo/New York and the blue plate lunch special at Yardbirds ($15 for their fried chicken lunch) at the Venetian. If you head to downtown/Fremont, you might want to check out PizzaRock or Le Thai.

You should also take a trip to Fremont for cheap gambling and a for a feel for the old Vegas.

Tropicana, Plaza and Downtown Grand casinos all have loss rebate offers for new club members. There are certain restrictions that come with each, but you might look into those. Casino Royale also has an easy $20 loss rebate for new sign-ups.

I recommend going to The D downtown and doing the sigma derby game. Its $0.25 a race and you get quick drink service. With it being his first trip to Vegas it also shows him a piece of old Vegas and playing with quarters.

48th and Crepe at NYNY has $9 crepes that are huge for a good quick cheap breakfast.

The only player card things I came across last week was $10 for TR and Binion's had something with your first card on black jack was an ace.

With restaurants I can't think of anything else that my wife and I didn't drop at least $60 for both of us.

Definitely go to Casino Royale. That's the easiest $20 loss rebate I've ever seen.

Downtown is definitely an option. Going to be tough finding $5 hands on the strip on the weekend. You could also give Palace Station a try. It's just off the strip or Ellis Island. It's still possible to do the Strip on a budget but it's getting harder and harder.

Oh nice I thought sigma derby was dead but it can be found downtown? Nice!

I think NYNY still has a $5 table, it's usually packed though and has crappy 6:5 rules

MGM Grand also had a sigma derby machine when I went on 4 th of July. It was near the buffet, however it was being worked on by a crew of technicians. I can't be positive that it's still there

I was at The D last week and my wife and I played Sigma Derby two different days and everything worked perfectly. I had someone tell me at the table that MGM no longer had it.

Damn that sucks...was hoping to play it at MGM next week! It was near the poker room last time I saw it in April. I'm hoping he missed it.

Another cheap food selection. Chipotle at Food Court between Harrah's/Casino Royale or Chipotle at Miracle Mile Mall. The company charges standard nationwide prices at both locations.

The Flamingo habitat is worth 10 minutes too, imo.

It was still there as of June of this year, they keep moving it around it seems, it was PACKED last time I saw it.

The Westin has 25 cent roulette certain times of the day, Hooters used to, not sure if they do anymore

Harrahs had an afternoon free slot tourney during the week. don't know if they still do. Just make sure he has his CET players card already as you need it to sign in. Its only 3 minutes of playing, but its fun and free!

As of two weeks ago Sigma Derby was still at MGM, I killed a couple hours there on our trip, always takes me back.

That being said 2-3 of the stations were not working, but the game itself worked fine, and I actually won a surprisingly decent amount of money there, think it was the first time I've ever won money at Sigma Derby. I also always get fantastic drink service at the game at MGM for some reason. I'm not a fan of MGM grand or that portion of the strip in general, but I always make a trip specifically for Sigma Derby. :)
