ok, this is simply a warning to watch your money. This week i was in Vegas, won a bet and cashed out $183 in the morning. i went shopping and the $100 was turned away. i took a close look at it and it was funny looking. i tried to put it into a couple machines and it was rejected. I took the bill back to the sports book and told them the handed me this, guy right away said "its real" without even touching it. he swapped it out with another bill for me. Im pretty sure it was a fake. this just made me think about how easy it would be to get back counterfeit money as change or a bet. be on the watch

Frankly I'm surprised this doesn't happen more. It has happened to me a couple of times and both times the offending cage just gave me a different bill. These were small, non NV casinos.

Good warning. I'm sure he realized it was bogus and took it back so you would not report them to the Feds.

It happened to me but with my own bank. Took out cash before my trip to Vegas and when I tried to use one of the hundreds on a slot machine in Vegas it wouldn't take it. Took it to the cage to exchange and they said it was fake. Next thing I know I'm surrounded by security and taken to the back room and grilled for 45 minutes.

Thanks for the tip. Since Vegas is so serious about its money with their cameras, constant counts and bill examinations, I figured a counterfeiter would be playing with fire to try that there. Stores in the Bay Area (SF, Oakland, etc.) check everything above a $20 since there has been an increase in fake bills circulating over the past few years. Guess Vegas is just as likely as anywhere else. Maybe more so with the loads of cash being put into play.

I have bills all the time that dont work in the machines.

I just break them at the cage and dont worry about it. Could just be the machines dont like them for some reason or other. Or could be a nefarious crime boss ala James Bond praying on casinos and tourists so they can buy a new super yacht or a submarine or a super yacht/ submarine combo thingy.

If your bank dispensed counterfeit notes to you, get another bank.

My mom works at a bank and I know how to spot a fake bill from a mile away. But yeah, please double check all bills, not just the big ones, for the right marks to make sure it's real prior to walking away from anywhere in a casino (or vacation spot at that).

    Maybe.

I have run a few small businesses over the past few years. I would take $10k more or less to the bank each week. Lots of $20s and $100s. Nobody every seemed to look at them. In 12 years of doing this, never, ever had one rejected. Always amazed me.

As to some bills will not go in machines - it depends. I know of some machines that were touchy and did not want to bother with the cage. Put the bill in an older machine and bingo - new TITO.

    That was my first thought!
How could you prove or disprove that the $100 came from there.

What does it matter where it came from if the guy ticket writer thinks it's real?

banks do not always do a great job checking what they give out and the pens are only good for checking the "paper" one of the newer techniques is to simply make a $100 on $1 paper so the pen test passes.....so if concerned you need to look at the marker line that should be embedded for the bill denomination

I am more surprised that the sports book is giving out money they have taken in instead of taking in money, putting it aside and only paying out from cash that they have received from the bank.....but then again as said above it is not unheard of for a bank to give out fake notes as well so perhaps they did give out from money that came out of the bank

there are places that will no longer take $100s specifically because they are the ones most often faked and of course that is a pretty big "hit" $100 at a time

there was a gem hunters TV show where in Thailand or Burma (I think it was one of those two) all the merchants would only take US $100s that were very very new and crisp because of the amount of faked bills that come out of north Korea so the gem hunters had to do their back alley currency exchange carefully to make sure they had crisp new bills

thats what i was thinking, it was hours before i got passed the cash. yet, after thinking about it, me and my hot girl think it might just be the hustle at that book. im not 100% sure, so that why im not naming it..... however if it smells like SH!T than it must be... friendly warning fellaz is all...... i would rather lose my cash on a longshot future than that way. as far as the bill, it was a 2003 $100, it did not have a watermark, did not have a strip, and the 100 did not reflect.. and when i rubbed the paper it sort of beaded. i expected a fight , but when he handed me a new $100 i was like, IM OUT ...

I know at most (all?) casino cages they take a video of everything that changes hands. I'm sure it's clear enough to record serial numbers of bills. Do they do this at the sports book? (I don't know, I usually do one sports bet a year, assuming my team makes it to a major bowl game.)
