A real novice question this, I did a search but couldn't see anything on it. It's going to be my first time in Vegas and I really don't have much Casino experience either so wondered how much and how regular I should tip the waitresses that bring drinks when we're playing? My wife and I will be together and won't be serious gamers but are looking forward to the comp drinks that go with it.

We're staying in the Venetian in case that's relevant.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

    The standard is still $1.

Some people have bumped that to $2 in recent years. Some people tip more on the first drink and then ease it back.

Usually you tip every time they bring you anything. Some people dont tip when they just get one of those half size bottles of water from the tray, some tip regardless.

$1 is absolutely standard and will be accepted each time.

Sometimes we will do $5 on the first run to get her back quickly for the 2nd run. Then go $1 from there on.

High Limit Rooms more is expected, but same result, any is appreciated (as it should be).

everytime i order i get a mixed drink and a bottle of water ( to put in purse and have for later in the room) If i am perched somewhere i know i am going to stay for quite a while- i will tip $5 first round to keep her coming back and if she is fast then i continue to tip $2 thereafter on every round..i find if i give them $5 up front.. they seem to be quicker and more pleasant..

agree with all comments. $1.00 is standard.
If I'm "thirsty" I will do the $5 first tip and say "keep them coming" and go $1 afterwards. After the second drink they know they're gonna get $1 going forward and the drinks still flow. win-win.

Usually do two or $3 per Drink.
You know it is bad when the Aria waitress remembers you from a couple days previously and is like why no Jack diet today lol

The standard from the beginning of time is $1.

Keep in mind though what you expect from her though.

They staff the floors with a minimum staff so for me at least, i want to be remembered and not washed away in the sea of $1 bills with all the others.

I tip $5 first couple of rounds. Not only that but I make it a point to stop what I am doing and make eye contact. Any advantage to be remembered next lap.

They have a small about of real estate on that tray and I want my flag planted firmly on it.

Something else to keep in mind is that 5 one dollar bills is not the same as a $5. its just not received the same way so have a stack of $5's with you.

Tip $5 the second round and now she will remember you.

After that you can revert to a buck or two.

Works well for me. The worst is when you tip the first one $5 and then she goes off shift and you have to start over. happens more then you think it would but no biggy, works out in the long run.

OK, great advice thanks, I reckon I'll go with the $5 to start an $1 per drink after that.

If you guys are playing together, and ordering together (my wife and I do this at V/P a lot as well), I'd suggest $1/drink, so even though you're together if you each get something give her a couple bucks. At our recent stay at V/P I was amazed to see how many people weren't tipping at all, even our $2/trip tips were getting us really good service. We'll often do the $5/start then pull back as well, especially since we stay on property for nearly a week a trip, the waitresses start to remember you and if they can count on tips they'll seek you out. We've even had girls remember us from previous trips before.

This past trip my wife got hooked on grasshoppers at the Palazzo later at night....the cw started bringing them to her without her even ordering one, or bringing her two at a time. She probably got $50 in tips from us in a few hours, lol.

Ok I didn't know people were just tipping a dollar. I always tip at least $2. I figure I can't get a drink for that price anywhere anyway. Maybe thats why I had to ask the girl at Mandalay Bay on November trip to please stop. I had 3 already lined up. She just always brought one by whether I ask or not.

I think there is a large amount not tipping, just like at the tables. So they do appreciate the tips. CW do just fine. 6 figures for many of them, if they're good like the one that kept brining you one.

OK I'm glad you brough this up, I was wondering about that as well, we will be doing the same but my wife will expect me to take care of the tipping as usual! I'm quite happy to tip generously as long as they're bringing us 'free' drinks, (only time a Scot is generous with money lol)

I mostly play on bartops and tip $1 per to bartender. Any casino besides MSS, I'll tip $1 on the floor. If I'm at at MSS and on the floor, I'll tip $2 except for one waitress who I don't care for and I think the feeling is mutual. But I'll still give her a buck.

Haha! Ditto for me at Mirage - I have 3 favorite areas I play (slots) both day shift and evening shift ladies, as soon as they spot me they bring me a ginger ale and bottle of water as that is the only thing I drink.. Then they ask, is your husband nearby, and offer to bring him his diet coke or Cabernet ! Some have been there for several years - and we've had some pleasant conversations through the years - so personable and friendly.

At Mirage, We always start with $5 for our favorites and $1 each after that. At other casinos, we do $1 or $2 depending on service.
When playing side by side, and if we both order, we double it. We always tip, and they are always appreciative. I've see some guys (usually men), who hand the waitress a $20 and say keep em coming!!

Too long a story, but nothing sexual. We just don't get along. I think she has some bipolar issues.

I've never noticed anyone not tipping, but Pleases and Thank Yous seem to be often forgotten, although I suspect the CWs would still prefer a Fiver and no acknowledgement over a single Buck and a smile.

When wife and I are ordering together I tip $3, if it's just one of us getting a drink usually 1 or 2 bucks. If I'm playing bartop games I tip a little more, because if I'm playing bartop I'm usually there to drink.

My wife and I always play side-by-side and tip $5. and ask the CW to bring two more on her next time through the area. Each and every time we tip $5. and the drinks keep on flowing. Sometimes there's months between trips and more often than not the CW remembers us and our orders. Can't beat the price of $2.50 for a pretty good drink :drunk:
