Just how much can Hosts find out about you?

The reason I ask is that something eerie has happened to me three times in the past year. I'm just a low to mid roller (on slots), but I get comped pretty well. I go to Vegas 4 or 5 times a year and stay mostly at Aria, but also have hosts at Bellagio, NYNY, Mandalay Bay, Mirage, Golden Nugget, The Cromwell, Flamingo, and Wynn. Last month, the host from Aria came to Houston, and took us to dinner - very nice. Then, the very next week, my Golden Nugget host came to town and did the same thing - I had never met her before, so I was surprised she called me. Ok, no big deal - just coincidence. But 30 minutes after I set up my upcoming trip with Aria, my Golden Nugget host called me and asked when I was coming to Vegas again! This also happened with another host that was a "roamer" (met her at MB, she moved to Tropicana, then to Wynn). For a while there it seemed like she either called or emailed me within minutes of me booking a trip elsewhere. Coincidence, or are they privy to some sort of database?

The simplest razor is the most likely, according to Occam Razor Corp. Inc.

    They are sharing information.

Whoa, Flusher - you just blew my mind - way too deep for me! LOL
Is this what you are referring to?

I am sure I am taking my own poetic license in understanding the principle and internalizing it but Occam's Razor is always at the back of my mind because it reminds me that often we need to simplify our thinking. The simpler the explanation the more likely it is better than a complex one.

For us in the Decision Making field my recommendation is that to truly understand complex sets of data we should apply the Occam's Razor "smell test".

    :hmmm:

Apparently you are not a low roller as you thought.
The hosts are not after you, they are after your bankroll.

I think it's just pure chance. The OP has 10 different hosts, and the summer months are considered the "slow" months in Vegas, so hosts will have more time to do outreach. Also, they are competitive, so I don't think they would share info.

Well, I could understand if the hosts of MLife had some kind of system that notifies them, because they can quickly see if you are trying to book back to back comped trips - but Golden Nugget is not associated with them, so maybe my GN host just has some sort of spidey sense. Every time she sends me an email, she puts a read receipt request on it, which I also think is strange!

I'm certainly not considered a high-roller by Mlife standards - and I've tried to be real honest with the new GN host - but maybe she has the wrong idea!! I just hate lying to her, telling her I can't make it back to Vegas till October, especially if she's seeing some kind of report that says otherwise.

I know many hosts have their own networks and can access information outside their companies.
In OP's case, I am certain that GN's host knew OP's Vegas-related activities.

That indeed is the one and the same Occam. And his razor. I think its just a fancy way of saying eschew the complicated conspiracy theorem and use yer noggin'!

Emails requesting read receipts are a bad idea that nobody ever uses anymore. Because creepy.

I would tell her that you are indeed coming to Vegas but not planning a stay at the nugget because the Aria is so generously comping you. You might get a better offer!

Exactly. I'm in consulting and we keep sales leads very close to the chest. We often refer to clients as "a major oilfield services company" or "a large healthcare provider" when talking about deals outside of the company. I view hosts a lot like our account executives that do the selling.

If these hosts are flying out TO YOU, they must know something...ie: you've got $$$ to blow.

No, I swear - I'm just a very average degenerate gambler. Yes, I do blow money in Vegas, probably way too much - and I almost exclusively play slots, so there ya go...

Plus, I'm not the only one they came to see - Aria hosted a dinner for about 14 of us, and GN host was here in Houston all week meeting people for both lunch and dinner. Maybe they are here all the time, and my number finally came up! I just mentioned it because it was uncanny that they were here back to back, and that's the same two people that seem to be sharing information!
I do tip my hosts a few hundred, but other than that, and my very pleasant personality :drunk: I'm just a lowly ole minnow in the LV world!!

    No reason to lie.

I have random hosts always contact me and I tell them I want promo chips, upfront AF and auto qualifier for a solid tourney or don't bother.

I never hear from them again but if they could do that and called me I would certainly make a visit.

i dont belive that host from other organisations share data
i also told my local buddy in vegas that, he replied yeah but maybe they spy on eachother?..maybe im naive but i dont think so.....
and brensan ofcourse they want you.....with slots the casino earns the most and if you also tip your host a few hundreds you are a great asset to them.....im not a big gambler myself but i also played slots in the past(at cet) and that also got me suites and a diamond card (and i never really tipped my host...i started that last year as i quit slots and suites are gone)

There are a lot of data bases that are for sale, including Google search and Facebook, so they may have clued other host about your plans. Also many of us are creatures of habit and provide a lot predictive behavior that can be used by corporations that spend the money on the software and data, i.e. for me there is an 80% chance that I will go to Cancun in October.

these host visits are normal and typical for the larger metro areas, which it sounds like you are located in or near. Couple times a year I will get a call from a host at another property who is not a normal host to me saying they are hosting a dinner, cocktail party, meet us at the dodger game, Clipper game, etc. I almost always take them up on these as it is a first-class night. I usually do what was mentioned earlier in the thread in that when it gets around to the one-one time and they hit me up for staying at their property, I break out the details of what I normally receive and it shuts down the conversations pretty quickly.

These hosts just pull up info from a database (maybe from Central Credit?) of players located within certain zip codes.

I always hear of my regular hosts traveling to different cities to host events for players in certain areas. In the past I have heard about: S.F., Cleveland, NYC, Miami / Orlando, Chicago, and a few others.......

wanted to add that these events are usually centered around a big player they are trying to land and then others get invited to join as well.........
