We were hoping for a "quiet" trip to Vegas and now there will be a fight the weekend we are going. Our son and his fiancé are coming with us and being young and planning a wedding they had a budget for the trip. How far out the window is the budget going to go? Will the fact that we are further away from the MGM help keep table limits down and food prices normal?

This isn't on the same level as the Pacquiao fight in May but fight weekends are always hopping. The Pacquiao fight was overhyped and prices jacked up so high that people stayed away. We arrived in town the morning after that fight and were told by a lot of people that while it was a busier than normal weekend it wasn't anywhere near what was initially expected.

I think you'll find the table limits around the Linq (if that's the area you plan to play) to be what they normally are on a weekend.

FYI there's always a big fight that exact weekend. Mexican independence day.

And it's been known that May was going to fight that weekend for months.

So you were never going to have a quiet weekend.

But as long as you stay away from MGM you'll be fine.

By Nevada law weigh ins are free and open to the public. However in May because of the huge interest in the fight the Nevada Athletic Commission allowed them to charge $10 to try to help with crowd control, all that money went to charity. Not sure how it will work for this one.

That weekend is also the first weekend of the NFL season (second weekend of CFB), so it will be a popular one. But like others have said, it won't be anywhere like May/PacMan. If you do your due diligence (and probably stay away from MGM) you should be ok. It's all relative to what your expectations are though of course.

First NFL weekend and fight weekend means it'll be busy

Mayweather is fighting a tomato can in Andre Berto so it won't be all out insane.

The books have Mayweather at -4000 odds!

My bet is that they may have to give people $10 to show up. Mayweathers last fight is only drawing interest because of the tomato can he decided to fight.

I walked around the new MGM arena behind NYNY a couple of weeks ago when I was in Vegas. When Mayweather goes for 50-0, which we all know he will do, and he fights at the new arena I'm wondering where the hell everyone is going to park. It's a beautiful looking venue so far but parking is going to be a huge problem, IMHO.

From what I've been told, he's told people that he is not interested in having his last fight be in Vegas. His contract is up after this fight and he plans on going out on his own so that he won't be obligated to fight in Vegas next year. This has been something he's been saying since the beginning of the year. He has two locations in mind where he'd like to fight.

He really wanted this next fight to air on primetime television and the powers that be aren't going to let that happen. He is well aware of that fact that this fight is not going to pull his usual PPV numbers and knew that primetime television would bring in huge ratings and ad revenue. Too late now.

I wonder if one of those places is Grand Rapids or Detroit since he is from there. Hopefully Berto puts on a better fight than Pacquiao at least.

I forgot that the NFL opens that weekend. That will draw more people than this fight.

Mike, from my understanding, I do not believe that there is intended to be parking immediately around the arena, and what little there is will be for production trucks / vans, catering, and vehicles necessary to help put on the event. The event parking is supposed to be in the surrounding parking garages at the nearby casinos - Excalibur, NYNY, Monte Carlo, MGM, etc.

yeah they want to make you walk through the casinos to get there.

wouldn't make sense to let you park, walk in and walk out and drive away without stepping foot in the casino.

also, not a lot of people drive in Vegas anyway.

His contract is with showtime not the MGM Grand so he can fight anywhere aslong as showtime televises it. I think he's going to stop at 49-0 because once he retires and takes some time off to come back ahd go for 50 wins he will be pushing 40 years of age.

He does plan on having a 50th fight next May. That is what he's told the people around him and has been telling them since the beginning of the year. He's been preparing for his retirement for a while by making investments in new companies, some which have taken off since he put money in them, and has been using this summer to attempt to fix the damage that his image has taken. I actually haven't heard anything negative at all from those who I know around him since the end of May.
