Has anyone won one of these lately be it from 4 Queens, El Cortez, Mirage, Palazzo / Venetian or Sam's Town????

How frequent did they pay out an what coins did you get?

Do you usually keep them or trade them at the cage?

They pay out pretty good for me at least at 4Q. I kept 1 of each, and turned in the rest. I haven't gotten a blue/red case yet, but I'm still hoping. I got like 3 or 4 with putting in $100.

My experience is that they can be won with only modest play.

Last one I got was last spring at the Venetian. Maybe 10 minutes of play?

I am a slot player and silver strike collector I have won over 1000 or so silver strikes from QQQQ, Mirage, V/P, Sam's Town, El Cortez and Delta Saloon (Virginia City, NV) over the past 2 years.

I have collected $300 silver strikes from Mirage and V/P, and typically don't play there any more.

Four times a year I go to the QQQQ for the $300 strike distribution. I also go to collect the current red/blue caps.

The machines are typically Double Diamond and the Silver Strikes are the equivalent of a $10 payout.

I do not have "accurate" stats, but over the last two years, I have averaged one clear strike per $14-17. Note that:

1)I usually don't play if there aren't any red/blue caps in the machines
2)The above payout value is calculated by valuing red caps at $40 and blue caps at $20 (that is the "normal" outside trade value)
3)This over a long period of play, but just a "drop in the bucket" for calculating the actual machine percentages.

I collect the $300 silver strikes for my son's college education. These are available in trade for 30 clear cap strikes.

I used to collect multiples, but decided that these were a "poor investment vehicle" and have started liquidating my "extras". One trip I turned in 8 of the same Halloween strike. It was a nice BR for my trip.

There is a club for silver strike collectors. It's a great place to meet people that collect silver strikes.

    www.silverstrikers.com

V/P and Mirage "always" (I've only seen one time when they haven't, but Mirage told me when they'd be coming in).

I am most familiar with the program at QQQQ, since they are the most "invested" in the hobby.

Mirage is second, but IMHO, they are primarily using Silver Strikes as a marketing tool for the headline performer (Danny Gans in the past), currently Terry Fator.

IMHO, V/P uses it to "promote" Sheldon Adelson, since him "mug" is prominently figured on most of the recent SIlver Strikes.

IMHO, Sam's Town, El Cortez, and Delta Saloon still have machines because:

1)They have $10 strikes that they need to "get rid of", and
2)Silver Strike machines can no longer be leased. In 2009 when the leases were up, you either had to "buy 'em, or turn them in.

QQQQ mints 148 (available to the public) $300 strikes four times per year at January (Annual Silver Striker's Club meeting/tournament), St. Patrick's Day, June (Annual Club Summer tournament), and Halloween. The $300 strike distribution is open to the public, the January and June distributions just coincide with club events. $300 distributions at St. Patrick's Day are held the Friday before the official holiday, the dates/times are posted at the Silver Striker website. At the January and June event there are "trading sessions" held, typically on the Saturday night.

At the QQQQ, red (.999 silver center) and blue caps (silver plated brass colorized), are typically put in the machines the Wednesday before the $300 distribution and last until 3-7 days after. At the January and June events, 1 new red cap and 4 new blue caps are put into the machines. They are limited to 500 per red/blue cap. At St. Patrick's Day, only one red cap and one blue cap are issued.

More details (including an online catalog of all the Silver Strikes ever minted), can be found at the club website.

or, PM me if you have any other questions.

Sorry if TMI (Too Much Information)

Did you at least keep the red caps?

The centers on those are .5 ozt. of .999 silver. SIlver prices are down now, but at $40 ozt. it would've been worth $20 in "junk silver".

I don't play machines but these are cool and I have a few, I'll have to get them out when I get home, I don't remember what I have. I'm a chip collector and at one point I thought about seriously getting into collecting these but I've settled for just having a few.

I asked at the cashier window and they said there was no additional value except with the 300.00 ones. I actually had two red ones. I'll know next time!

What the cashier told you is true. To the casino there is no additional value, but if you look at a red cap, they are (almost) all stamped with .999 silver.

Recent blue caps/clear caps are not stamped this way.

I don't have a picture of the Venetian red cap immediately available, note the stamp on the lower picture/link.

Thanks for the info Dailun. do you take the strikes out of the container? I notice that your strike isn't in a container. (just wondering).

I usually check the machine to see if there is a red cap near or on the bottom. At least then I know I may have a chance at it. I have gotten a number of red cap strikes but basically I just keep em at home. I don't play that much so I don't win a lot. I usually put in $20 and play at least one time I'm in vegas. I think I haven't won one at the venetian yet so I will probably check it out when I'm there in 3 weeks. Anyone knows where the machine is located at the venetian?

As others have mentioned, lately it probably takes about $15 or so to win a strike. YMMV though, once I won a strike with my first pull of the machine (that time I won 3 strikes with $20). Other times I didn't win after putting in $20 (had to put in closer to $30) so guess it all evens out.

Anyone know if they sell strikes at the cage? Maybe might be better to just buy em instead of playing, that way you know you will get one.

I like going after the strike conventions/tournaments because there are a number of people who are willing to sell their extra strikes. I was lucky, once I paid $40 for 3 strikes, one was a red cap too. Guess the guy had enough of them so just wanted to get rid of them (I overheard him mentioning he was going to take them back to the cage so I asked if he wanted to sell them).

Strikes are typically not sold. As a matter of fact there is a note on the Silver Strikers website regarding Delta Saloon:

"Notes: They WILL NOT sell strikes. They made that loud and clear to us, we had to play to win."

However, that being said, it doesn't hurt to ask.

I move my "display" strikes to newer air-tight capsules. The $10 clad typically stay in the original capsules since I will be turning them back in.

At the last trading session due to scheduling, there was very poor turnout. Since I was there collecting for 4 other people and it was a five colored strike (1 red, 4 blues) event. I announced "Who's got extra red/blues for sale?" That got everyone going and they were "fighting" to get to me. I got most of my strike sts filled for my friends.

I have gone $50 without getting a strike, then will get 3 in a row. It just all depends.

I will typically break $400 and sit on two machines, collecting reds and blues and keeping the clads for trade-in for a $300. To me, 6 ozt. of silver with worth more than 30 clad strikes, and trading them in, you're kind of "losing money".

As makikiboy said, during the January and June events, there are plenty of strikes to be bought and sold . . .

Thanks for the info. yeah, I never asked at the cage about strikes, but mostly because the ones at the 4q are the standard strikes that have been around for a year or more.

So when is the January event? I think I will be attending the CES in jan so hopefully the event is around that time.

My buddy became obsessed with these machines last month at The Mirage. He ended up with like 20 silvers, a few blues and I think one red (or some other rare colour). He cashed all of them out except the red, which he kept.

I've gotten strikes from Mirage, El Cortez, 4 Queens, and Venetian. Typically I ran at the most $20 and usually got one or two strikes. The exception is 4 queens where I think I lost $40 bucks or so before I got 1 strike. Ended up even or ahead on my $20 at the other places. Had trouble getting on the machines at Venetian/Palazzo, must have gone by 3 or 4 times before I finally got on one.

I was there 2 weeks ago. Both machines I checked looked like they only had some women on them like mermaids and such. I'm not an expert so dont ask me if they are good or not. I just know I wasnt interested in the theme. The time before that they had like wine bottles.

These common clad strikes can usually be had for $10 - $12 shipped on eBay all the time. The $300 giant strikes, with a good theme like Halloween, usually sell online for $325-$375. I've seen current ones sell for $400 (Frankenstein) Its not a huge money maker but if you really wanted the strikes and didnt want the risk of playing you can pretty much buy what you want on eBay or if you are building up a pile to trade in for a $300 strike this is certainly the way to go. If you get enough of them for $10 shipped and trade in 30 for the $300 one AND can sell that for $400 you are making money in vegas!

    Cheers Grid.

Coming over from Australia in 4 weeks and like to play these machines.

I have a $300 4 Queens version from 2013 with a matching red cap version. Along with roughly 100 others from varying casinos.

I have bought from EBAY in the past, however only the .999 silver versions.

Standing near the cage you can often buy the strikes from players for $10 before they sell back to the casino.

There are no red and blues In the machines at QQQQ.

reds and blues are put into the machines the Wednesday before the $300 distribution and are usually gone between 5-7 days after the distribution.

The current clad strikes at QQQQ are the "Elemental Queens (Eanth, Wind, Fire, and Water), and Seasonal Queens (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter)

Check the Silver Striker website for a list of the active strikes.
