(I'm posting this in the general strip casino section and not in the sandwich subforum since those are casino specific and my question is open to more than one casino, if this is bad, mods, please excuse this thread and move to the proper sandwich subforum)

$50 sandwich at Caesars or MGM, where should I try it?

The wifey and I got married at Caesars 5 years ago (we go back every year but stay at MLife props due to comps). For the 5 year anniversary we are doing two days at Caesars and 3 at MGM, I was thinking of trying a $50 sandwich at one of them (20 doesn't go as far as it used to, inflation is a bitch). So should I roll the dice at Caesars or MGM, I'm not trying it at both places.

Your chances are probably better at MGM and you are staying there 3 nights instead of 2 so if it's successful you'll have the upgraded room one more night.

I agree with what VegasVic said, but it really depends on a lot of things:

    1)The dates you are going
    2)Time of day for check-in
3)What type of room you have reserved
4)What you expect to get from the sandwich (larger room, better view, etc.)

I think that you have a better chance at MGM

We would all prefer if you didn't try a $50 sandwich. It will make them more desirable for the front desk going forward

    Is $50 the new $20?

I have used the $20 between the CC and players card about 4 times it worked three times and didn't the other. The time it didn't work was at Bellagio and even though I didn't get the upgrade they kept the $20 and said thank you. I wasn't sure what to do or say so I didn't say anything at the risk of coming off as cheap. Has this ever happened to any of you and if so, how did you handle the situation?

Twenty is plenty in my view. It's only a couple of minutes of effort.

When I do this I mentally write that twenty off, and what happens happens. If I don't get what I think is my money's worth, I just take it in stride and think, well, at least I made someone's day.

$20 is sufficient, they won't be able to create more pull on which room they can give you based on that $30. Honestly, your room will not change for the extra $30.

I've never heard of them not giving you an upgrade but keeping the $20.

It's bad form, but I know I have heard of it before. Personally I have tried 5 times and I am 5/5 on upgrades, for $20. Got a penthouse at the Mirage for one night, once. Suites at PH and Rio. Upgraded to Octavius at Caesar's twice...

Me too! LOL And last I heard $20 sandwich trick is becoming too common and hotels are more likely not to accept it but instead an upgrade offer at a discount so I don't even bother.

The last time I did it, at the Rio in May, the guy gave me the upgrade and gave me back the $20. Some of the front desk clerks would make Lance Burton proud. My $20 disappears so fast and I never see where it goes.

Sort of related, I have found that upgrades offered to you online are usually cheaper once you get to the desk during check in....
