    My Trip Report

    7/23-7/30

Day1 – Arrived at Excalibur at 9:30PM (approx. 4 hrs travel time up the I15). First time at Excalibur, that place came as advertised. Non-smoking room and hallways smelled like an ashtray. I had a view of the HVAC equipment through a very dirty window on a roof right in front of me. A view that would make prisoners cringe. All that being said it was still awesome! My brother in law was joining me the next day so I honestly didn’t care about a view or smoke smell – we had a totally free room (including resort fee) to pass out in! Besides – I’m at the Excalibur, if I didn’t get the Excalibur experience it would have been a huge disappointment!
I had a few drinks and gambled for a little bit and then nodded off at about midnight.

Day2 – Pool in AM – decent pool, not too many kids. BIL got there about noon, drinks right away, I could tell this was going to be a ‘throwback’ type weekend, i.e. lots of drinking and memory lapses. Lunch at RiRa, gambling at Luxor, NYNY, Excalibur – Overall a pretty good day, ended up $400 positive.

Day3 – Pool in AM again. More gambling, breakfast at NYNY America Diner. Gambling, drinking and then off to Tuscany for more of the same. Rush concert at 8 at MGM, awesome show. Gambling at Excalibur after, ended up the night up over $1500 – mainly from one big Walking Dead win.

Day4 – BIL flew out in the AM, worst hangover in many years. Headed to Mandalay buffet for breakfast. Played a WOF .50 machine, won $480. Went back to the room and pretty much slept all day. Hopefully I won’t deal with that kind of hangover for many years to come! Gambled a bit that night and won another $250 or so – I’m up about $2500 for the trip on mostly slots and blackjack. Craps was a wash.

Days5-8 – Checked in to the Flamingo – had a great room without the prison view. Nice view of Caesars and Bellagio. I liked the hotel but I found myself gambling mostly at Harrah’s and one night downtown, El Cortez is still one of my favorite casinos. Mostly pool and gambling for these last few solo days. I stayed about even during the 2nd part of this trip so overall I stayed up about $2500. Awesome trip – I didn’t have any concrete plans before I left about when my next trip would be but about 24 hours after I got back I decided to do a Dec trip. The countdown begins!

I had zero issues with the elevators - I took the 'Habitat' elevators to the 21st floor throughout my stay and never had a long wait. I liked the pool, but of the 3 times I went there I was only able to get a chair on day 1... the other 2 times I had to lay on the towel at the pool's edge. I stayed at the 21 and over pool, not sure how the other pool was, it was a good crowd, I met some nice people and enjoyed it for sure - the waterfall is pretty cool....

there is definitely more foot traffic in the mid strip casinos that I played in (Harrah's, Flamingo, Linq) - bartender told me that since they put in the Linq the casinos have a lot of folks walking through. I kind of like the lower key atmosphere of the south part of the strip, although staying at mid strip was in no means a disappointment. Overall it was a great trip, when I planned it I thought maybe 6 nights was too much - of course since I drove if I felt it was time to go at anytime I could do that.... in the end on what was supposed to be my last day (I had the room booked that night but was just using it as a late checkout) I decided to stay one more day. So I haven't met my limit yet on how many nights is too much!

Thanks! I am hoping to be using the Habitat elevators as well, we have never had too much of a wait with those.

What days of the week did ya go? I am going to the Go Pool on a Thu & Fri, we have a cabana for Thur for my Bday.. did you happen to notice if the cabanas and day beds were full?

I was worried that the Linq would add a lot of traffic (kids) to the Flamingo, but it is what it is...

Congrats on coming home a winner! The dreaded Vegas hangover.....anywhere else I'd be down for the count but somehow push through when one strikes hard in Vegas. The hangover may have saved you from losing some of your hard earned winnings. That WD machine hates me, but I always give it a go.

Congrats! I'll be at NYNY for the first time in September. Where was the WD machine that treated you well?

I was at the Flamingo for the 2nd part of my trip 7/27-7/30 (Mon-Thu). There were a few day beds and cabanas that were open - it was the standard chairs that were hard to find.

you're probably right - that day where I spent my time mostly in the room might have saved me some dough! I haven't had a hangover like that since the last time I met my brother in law in Vegas 4 years ago... hmmmmm... I think there may be a connection!
