I know you can't really replace Vegas Chatter... it was a one of a kind... but I always... each morning... went to Las Vegas Advisor's Question of the Day, then to Vegas Message Board, then Vegas Chatter for the latest happenings around town... especially downtown. Any suggestions for a good website to replace it in my daily routine?

Vital Vegas is worth a follow, but they don't punt out all the press releases that VC did (for good or ill).

It might be worth waiting to see if the Conde Nast travel site continues to feature Vegas news in an easily filterable manner.

'Eater Vegas' covers food, drink, restaurant, etc. matters if that is something that interests you.

Otherwise it is just the more traditional 'newspaper' sites: Review Journal, Vegas Seven, Vegas Sun, etc.

Perhaps we VMBers will have to step up and start creating more threads around breaking minor news stories we come across.

VC has/had some good info. I always take their reviews with a grain of salt since they are freebies, I put more stock in reviews of people who go to shows/restaurants anonymously on their own dime. A lot of the information they provide is very useful though.

I'm surprised more Las Vegas junkies don't read the two major papers - the Sun and the Review Journal. Just a quick glance at their sites daily will catch them up on what's happening in Las Vegas. Yeah, it's not as personal as a BB or blog with give and take, but they're very informative.

I was sad to learn yesterady of Las Vegas Chatters' demise. I used to read the Total Rewards harrahs blog but that has turned 110% into a CET public relations blog. Vegas Chatter always had a great amount of new information and things I found interesting. Thanks to everyone for sharing your links to new places to check out!

there realy isnt anything vital vegas is realy slow and doesnt up date alot.

theres a locals magazine called http://digital.greenspunmedia.com/t/94257-gmg-the-sunday thats pretty good on local news and has tons of cupons and free buffets and drinks, buy one get one free stuff

otherwise in my opinion there is nothing that replaces what vc was doing, i and others were sending them tons of info and i found it to be the most up to date topical info blog for daily vegas stuff they had a hard time keeping up with everything sent to them, now whos going to tell us a cvs is being built on the old harmon site.

    peace out

this was the first cn email story they sent me since they closed down vc so this gives you an idea of what there doing its a world wide travel magazizine

londonis one of the world’s best drinking cities, but that begs the question: Which of its multitude of pubs and bars is really worth your time? Two of the partners behind Portobello Road Gin, Jake Burger and Tom Coates, helped us distill the best of the best, with their picks for where to drink in London right now—including their new tasting room an

Have to disagree with you, VegasVic, on the "freebies" aspect. As an out-of-town contributor, I paid for my own airfare and car rental. And also paid for my own shows, meals, and lodging the vast majority of the time. I wrote about what interested me, where I would go as a tourist, and what budget-minded folks like myself could do to maximize their travel dollars. Sure, we were invited infrequently to review things, but even then we stated so and worked hard to remain unbiased.

i wrote alot and gave them a ton of stuff and i never was paid, i did it as a fan of the site and wanted to share my thoughts and information with others who i thought it might help.i traded information all the time with becca and asked if she needed anything or i gave here a list of casinos i would be at and she said can you grap a pic of a , b or c or would you mind writing a review of the show you just saw.

and any who has meet me or knows me knows i pull no punches , if it suxs i will say so, im too blunt thats why i hept getting in trouble on vmb but atleast i was honest and true to my self and i like reading what the actualy writers wrote as i clearly cant write for shit but glad i was able to contribute in some way and help out.

ps , the hard rock just oppened a pizza place inside the other day(rumor of a sale) but dont hold me to that

also im hearing a few more 4 to 5000 theaters are on the horizon in the next to open in the 2 years

    peace oout
i hope i was able to help some and i appreciated reading writers on vc

I think that VC was pretty transparent as to when they were getting freebies, even more transparent than actual journos at times. As for Vital Vegas, no he doesn't report every press release but he when he's great at getting scoops no one else has.

I didn't mean to imply that anyone here who wrote for them was biased. I just know that many of the shows and meals were part of "media events", i.e. paid for by the casinos and restaurants. Yes, it did state so at the end of the review. But anytime someone receives something free there could be, even subconsciously, a less than objective review. But I didn't mean to paint everyone under a wide brush.

This is true. I am not sure whether this is limited to just receiving perks for a favorable review by a website. Spend a little while browsing a review site like Amazon or Trip Advisor and you see all kinds of reviews that make you stop and wonder "What is up with THAT guy?" :)

But I would like to state for the record, that if any casino representative wants to throw some freebies around, I am available and I can be bought. :haha: j/k, but I love it when people assume my trip is always on some casino's dime or when I pay for dinner or drinks at the bar at a VMB gathering that I've "worked out something" with the casino. Nope. Not once, ever. Sometimes my pathetic coin-in earns me a casino rate, but that's about it. Vegas isn't quite as free and easy with the bribery where the internet media is concerned. At least not IMX.

I'll miss the real insider dirt from VC, like the Lions Share jackpot watch at MGM. It was like a treasure hunt trying to find the machine, then watching the hard core players taking notes of every roll. No where to find those kind of stories now.

I would love for us to be that place, but I don't have a staff of people on the ground in Vegas to chase down that sort of thing for me. People are always welcome to post their hunts and findings on the board.

In fact, I'm hoping some of the "Chatters" find us. :)

One other source of info to add is the Stiffs and Georges Blog on LVA. He breaks down all the financials and development news locally and nationally. I don't understand everything he discusses but I get closer than I would reading quarterly reports.

Thank you "paperposter" for posting the link to "The Sunday" digital magazine! Enjoyed the article on the potential name for the (hopefully) new Las Vegas NHL team. :peace:

I am surprised no one mentions Vegas Seven. While its only a weekly publication and in digital form, its a weekly read for me on my tablet.
The great thing about VC was it was a professional built and styled blog site, but with local home grown writers. It's tough to churn out material in a format
that is both entertaining and informative. Alot of sites come across as a hippster dufus, I know more about Vegas than you tone, with very droll humor which you love or hate.
Others are clearly low info / low content site with the goal of selling you shit thru their click ads.

No I thought VC was one of a kind. It will be curious what will grow out of its disappearance.
