Hello everyone, Mike here! I'm a long time VMB fan and this is my second post on here. For all the years I've been traveling to Vegas, there have been only 2 sites that I visit for all the information I'm looking for, and now that Condé Nast cut the head off Vegas Chatter, Vegas Message Board is the Highlander!!!

A bit about myself. My first trip was in 2004 when I was in my early 20's (won $4000 on slots on that trip and haven't come anywhere close to that since). I don't gamble as much as I use to, but instead enjoy Las Vegas for all of the great food, drinks, and entertainment. Food wise I'm into anything great and love trying new places, whether it's fine dining, gastropubs, a local diner and everything in between. A few notable places I've been to include é by José Andrés, Joel Robuchon, and L'Atelier on the high end, and other favorites include Public House at Venetian, Omelet House (W Charleston Blvd.), and BLT Burger at the Mirage.

I'm also a recovering buffet junkie (Bacchanal Buffet sucks because it's overpriced, Wicked Spoon is a carnivores paradise), and instead now prefer to enjoy the great brunches offered around the Strip when I want to stuff my face (Fountains Brunch in Jasmine at Bellagio is highly recommended).

I enjoy trying new craft cocktails (The Verbena at Cosmo's Chandelier Bar is a must try), and also love craft beer and good whiskey/Scotch/Bourbon.

I'm a former Mlife Platinum member who gave up on that crap as they've made everything worse and customer service has gone drastically downhill, but the Mirage has been and continues to be my favorite place to stay. Anyone else miss the bank of penny slots where you could win a car there?

I have a trip coming up August 20th-24th staying in a King Tower at the Mirage. I'm only Sapphire now but got 2 of the nights for only $17/night (and $20 in freeplay) and took advantage of the email to upgrade to the tower for only $23 more/night. If you're planning a trip around that time and a low rolling member, check out the Mlife website. I'm also a MyVegas player for going on close to 3 years now and got a comp night with that too.

I love this network of great people providing great information about one of my favorite cities in the world. If I can help with anything, just let me know. And if you know any of the writers from Vegas Chatter, tell them to come on over here and join the best.

    Cheers,

    Mike

Yeah I am disappointed. A lot of the great Vegas blog sites have diminish. VC was great at quick updates. VegasTripping seems to be all about plugging VIMP these days, with occasional updates from Chuckmonster or plugging the VegasGang podcast which I find exceptionally boring now. Five Hundy is hit or miss, since its just as much TD opinion as it is content, the Facebook group is way more interesting.

VitalVegas is a great site, but with sporadic updates you never know what you might get any day.

Yes VC shutting down is a huge impact to the Vegas blogging community. It might be time to start a grass roots effort to resurrect a daily Vegas news site, that well, puts out daily Vegas news for the Vegas enthusiast. Until then we will have to rely on great communities like VMB, FHBM Facebook group, VV, RFW. Not to mention Robin Leech at Las Vegas Sun.

I saw Vegas Tripping Chuckmonster wrote a blog post about the demise of VC, basically bashing the site, and chuckling at their demise.
Its too bad he doesn't realize that most of the VT content in the last three years has pretty much been shit as well, not to mention the long lapses in updates that was going on
for awhile in 2014. Seems like an internet temper tantrum at his competitors, too bad they don't focus on putting out consistent high quality content at VT, oh yeah I forgot
there working on an expose about VIMP and The D.

    For your reading pleasure.

VMB is easily the best message board with folks sharing information and getting questions answered. It is not a "news" type site other than some links to other postings.

I love VMB and have visited others from time to time. VegasRex always brought forth new and varied information, somewhat like Vegas Chatter.

Not sure who is left that is "Working the Beat".

Wow, some sour grapes there and I hope he didn't get hurt patting himself on the back. I have no dog in this fight. Until today I have never been to either one.

Thanks, Funkhouser! I forgot about VegasTripping. The only thing I've ever been on there for before was a search that brought me to a good breakdown of Mlife benefits back in the day, and I wasn't familiar with VitalVegas at all. With the ever changing dynamic of Las Vegas, I can't imagine planning a trip there without thorough research. That's half the fun for me too, like a kid looking through toy catalogs before Christmas, but good food and booze are the toys

    So dumb.

Resenting a competitor for online Vegas content is ridiculous.

Just appreciate your followers and stop biting the hand that feeds you.

    Sounds like me!

I can recommend Banger Brewery at Freemont Street for craft beer - they brew their own (http://bangerbrewing.com/). From reading this site the TAG lounge at LINQ is a great place for comped craft beer, and I believe Mandalay Bay serves craft beer on the casino floor (http://www.mandalaybay.com/beer/). I also want to make a visit to Ellis island on my upcoming trip.

For whiskey/ bourbon I believe Whisky Down at MGM Grand is the place to go.

I don't think it was just about resenting a competitor - Vegas Tripping outright accused Vegas Chatter of taking their content and plagiarizing it, which is a serious allegation, if true. I never frequented either site so I can't say whether it is true or not. This board is the best by far, so there is no need to seek anything further.
