Tomato sandwich

A friend gave us some stuff from their garden, so I just had my first tomato sandwich of the season. Anyone else eat them?

They also gave us a head of cabbage, so dinner is fried cabbage, noodles and bacon. And a grilled burger. My cardiologist would be proud I'm sure. lol

 

We eat BLTs all summer long once the crop comes in. Still another few weeks to go. Zucchini, banana peppers and green beans so far. One head of broccoli almost ready.

btw, the ease of the precooked bacon is just too easy to pass up. 15 seconds or so in the microwave and you have hot bacon.

I liove a fresh from the garden tomato sandwich--- but only with a Big Boy tomato and pita bread---to hold in the juice. Those usually ripen here in August.

Right now we have herbs, yellow summer squash---never the green-- and English Cukes. Yellow string beans have started.

 

I just had a breakfast of scrambled eggs with cut-up jalapeno from garden, potatoes with green bell and sweet red Italian peppers from the garden and scrapple (from unspecified parts of pig). Fresh pot of coffee and orange juice.

Yummers!

Fart around on internet for a while and then go fishing.

And people wonder when they should retire. SMH

 

Yes to the tomato sandwich, our garden had them starting in early June. Problem now is the heat index is over 100 and we aren't harvesting as often as we need to.

 

What could be better than a fresh ripe red tomato on sliced white bread with a little salt, pepper, and mayonnaise?? Yum

Although, my fried green tomato sandwich is a close second!

 

I love tomatoes. Home grown ones. Not too much the generic store bought ones. Someone gave me some Hamakua tomatoes from the Big Island. (Hawaii). Hydroponic process.

I love a fresh "real" tomato. I like mine w/salt, pepper, and vinegar. I grew up rural, so store tomatoes do nothing for me.

I love a toasted tomato sandwich. I don't even need bacon. Miracle Whip please. I was raised in a Miracle Whip household. I'll take mayo if I have to but it's a poor second in my opinion. I'm also a fan of the BLT and the club sandwich, either turkey or chicken club. I don't care. As long as it's toasted and has tomato, we're good.

 

Funny! In my house when I was raised Miracle Whip was called mayo. I got married and my wife was...that's not mayo! She came around!:evillaugh

 

Yeah Joe, my husband converted for me too. And they're right, it's not mayo. But, a sandwich just isn't a sandwich without the tangy zip of Kraft Miracle Whip. I didn't make that up. That is a fact.

 

I don't eat it except in summer and then MW on a BLT is essential. No Miracle Whip, forget the sandwich.

I prefer sliced tomato with EVOO, aged balsamic, fresh basil and salt and pepper.

 

Joe, I agree. Remember the commercial with the dog making the guy a sandwich? But, there's no Miracle Whip so he just throws it out? If we're out, I'll take mayo. I can't remember where it was, I want to say Vegas, she offered me mayo or Miracle Whip. I was soooo freaking happy. I can't even express to you my joy.

 

Miracle Whip isn't mayo.

just like Velveeta isn't cheese.

but that doesn't mean you can't prefer it.

 

Oh yea, you have to have the bacon, lettuce and toasted bread to go with the freshly picked tomato!

 

I also like cut up tomatoes and cucumbers, salt and pepper, and cottage cheese. Nice snack.

 

Once the fresh beefsteak tomatoes are available, I think I could live on toasted tomato sandwiches....with Miracle Whip, not mayo. As a side note, for the best potato salad, you need to douse the potatoes while still warm with vinegar and then use a combo of miracle whip, mustard, sea salt, fresh ground pepper and celery seed for the dressing (no pickle juice). Simple and delicious! I brought hubby around from mayo to Miracle Whip too loladoggie.
