I don't play craps, would love to learn but feel a little intimidated, especially at a full table. I stand and watch sometimes and can't seem to follow the action. I know I could sit in on a tutorial while in vegas but I hate to spend what little time I have in "class" and at my local casino in Columbus, the tables are always packed shoulder to shoulder.

anyways....I saw a video on youtube entitled "best craps strategy, turn $300 into $4000+"

I watched the video which was made by a guy playing craps on wizardofodds.com. I will admit, at the end of the nearly one hour video, this guy had over four grand after starting with 300. I noticed when he started to do really well that a point was made then what seemed like 20 rolls in a row without hitting a 7. how unlikely is this to happen?

have any of you watched any of this video? was wondering if it was a craps strategy worth learning before my million dollar trip in September.

thanks for any and all responses

    todd

Yes, but that would be no fun.
You might as well say "don't go on vacation or eat at a restaurant or play golf because you will be out some money in the end".
You will lose money at craps, but you should have fun doing so.

I was joking, haha. We all know I'm a craps degenerate.
As far as "systems" go...ALL systems will work...once...the question is, will it be the first time you try it? ;)

The only REAL "system" to craps..is:

"Have fun and play within your means"

Best to attend one of those craps lessons that some casinos offer. They also allow you to play the game after the lessons to make you comfortable with the game.

As for playing, I would suggest playing early morning when the tables aren't busy. Hopefully the pit crew can help you with any questions you have and you can spend some quality time learning and playing the game. I would highly recommend taking the casino up on their free lessons. Another alternative would be to play downtown where a majority of the tables are $5 minimum and even $3 at the Fremont and El Cortez.

With regard to the video, I would take it with a grain of salt, like you said it was a lucky situation where it sounds like the guy went through a lot of rolls before sevening out so not sure how good his strategy is. Most strategies work really well when there are good shooters but may not do too good when shooters keep crapping out.

link to the video? (yes I'm Lazy, wtf?, you got a problem?) ..yeah it's friday and I've been drinking..

look math and statistics say that over a million rolls the avg before a 7 appears is 6.134

but 20 rolls is not unusual with variance

oh and like Tim said ( and schwarzkopf and Mike Tyson)

" all strategies work until you get punched in the nose the first time!"

And, I've watched that system before. It looks like you have to really pay attention, and make sure to treat the dealers good up front since it's a lot of extra work for them.

If you don't want to go to one of the training classes, go early to a table. If you're downtown, they're all $5(except GN). Simplest bet you can make is the pass line with odds after the point's made. If you're feeling brave, then you can put a bet on the 6/8(in increments of $6).

Just try to watch what 1 person does, don't try to follow the whole table at once. You'll get overwhelmed. Craps is one of the funnest games I think. Especially on a hot table.

Take the free lesson at a casino. They only last about 30 minutes. Then start out playing pass line with odds......until you get comfortable.
After you have played a bit..... you will be a lot more comfortable at the table. Also read everything you can on this board about
    etiquette at the table.

Also you can google "live craps videos" and see some games in action to give an idea how things work. Not sure how they managed to capture them but maybe some kind of hidden camera.

    1. Crowded craps table is the best, it suggests the table is hot, there is always room for one more player to squeeze in.
    2. Throw $100 on the layout (don't attempt to hand it to the dealer, he's not allowed to take it from your hand). He will give you $100 in red $5 chips.
    3. Wait until the dealer says, Coming Out and flips the big white puck to "OFF.". Put $5 (or the table minimum bet) in the middle of the Pass Line.
    4. 7 or 11, you win, 2, 3, or 12, craps you lose.
    5. Any other number is the Point. The dealer will flip the puck to "ON." Put 2 chips directly behind your Pass Line bet.
    6. 7 is now the Bad Number (do not say it out loud). If the Point number is made before the Bad Number, you win. If the Bad Number comes first, too bad.
    7. If you win, pick up your newfound money,
    8. If you win and you feel lucky, increase your bet starting with the amount behind the Pass Line bet.
    9. If you win a few times in a row, you are On A Roll. It is OK and encouraged to cheer and make as much noise as you like.
10.If your turn comes to shoot the dice, make a Pass Line bet, pick two dice up with one hand only and throw them all the way to the other end.
    11. Since you're a beginner, it's OK to not make any other bets other than a Pass Line bert and the behind-the-pass-line bet (known as Odds).
    12. If the shooter has the dice, DO NOT stick your hands in the shot. DO NOT throw money in front of the shot.
    13. It's OK to ask the dealers questions, even dumb newbie questions.
    14. Good Luck!

Yes definitely don't read too much into the video. It happened to work that time but it is a confusing/complicated strategy for a beginner. Craps can definitely be intimidating at first and looks confusing. But once you get into it, you realize that it really isn't. Definitely give it a try. Good luck!

Buy a pair of dice and record the numbers from your rolls. This will give you a sense of how often the 7 comes up, and how long rolls can be between 7s.
Then you will know why savvy players play the Don't Pass, and ignore all the superstition surrounding craps.

Thank you for this simple explanation. I want to learn to play craps, but have been too intimidated not understanding the basics. I'm going to give this a try on my next visit to Vegas.

except you're still rating to lose on the dark side as well ... just infinitesimally less.

All you have to do is video a bunch of sessions until you get lucky and get the result you want. He doesn't show you the first 20 tries. Here's a session I played, starting with the original stake of (I think) $1,000:

Don't bother looking for a crowded or loud table. A "hot" table can turn cold on the next roll (and vice versa).

The best advice is to stick to bets that have a lower house edge. Pass/Don't Pass, come, inside place , etc.. Stay away from the middle of the table.

And follow basic craps etiquette. Keep your hands above the rail when the dice are coming your way, don't wait until the last second to place a bet, etc...

Craps players are VERY superstitious. When you do seven out they will find a way to "blame" you. Your roll was too soft, too hard, you hit too many chips, you arched them too high, too flat, etc...

For 3-4-5 odds, the Dont with full odds is 28% better than the Pass with full odds, so substantially more than infinitesimal. See Wizard of Odds.

I agree with trying to follow etiquette as much as you can, so as not to disrupt the flow of the game.
But remember: it's your money, bet it the way you want, and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.
Superstition belongs in the Dark Ages, not here in 2015.

Please don't do this without loudly declaring "CHANGE ONLY". If you hesitate the Dealers could call "Money Pays" and now it's a live bet.
