Paying for room (not using offer) --- does it count as a low/no play day?

Hi all! I haven't been around the past couple months, been so busy! Still managed to make it to Vegas in April, May, and July though. Next I need to get caught up on all the PMs in my Inbox!

I can't believe I am doing this, but I am bringing my 15 and 16 year old THROUGH Vegas for a couple days after we do the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, VOF, etc.

I just came back from a good offer from Bellagio and hit Gold again, so I do not want to take a low or no play day. I just want to book a room through a promo I found on SmarterVegas and be INVISIBLE this trip.

Well, I called room reservations to confirm a note in my account about the 2 queen room. The guy on the phone said that paying for my room would not count against me in the eyes of Mlife and that I could choose to just not use my card on that stay. Low and behold, he said my Mlife number had "auto-populated" into my MGM reservation anyway. (I am guessing it is because of my credit card that is tied to previous reservations/offers, etc)

So, what is the actual story here? Is it going to kill my average or not? Should I just stay elsewhere and not risk it?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

 

If you have a host at the casino that you're staying at, I would call him and ask.

His responsibility if to help you stay "in good standing", since your behavior counts towards his bonuses.

 

I don't think anyone will be able to give you a definite answer simply because no one is absolutely sure how it will work.

My thought has always been, if the casino knows you are on their property then they expect you to play and will see that day as a no play. I have zero justification for this, other than it makes sense to me and that's how I would do it if I was in charge

 

I thought it would/should be possible to pay for a room and therefore make yourself invisible to the bean counters. However, I believe that to be impossible with the technology these days. I did not book through or with my MLife account number. It was added to my reservation somehow automatically. I am guessing through my email, name/address, credit card, etc.

VIP services was able to physically remove my MLife number from my reservation, but if it was linked once, it will be linked again. I am going to just cancel the whole thing and stay somewhere else. It is not worth it.

I booked a room for my mom through Aria's website, not Mlife. I used my cc, my email, my address, just her name. The next morning I got an email for her from Aria explaining how to charge everything to the room to earn points. She is Saphire and hasn't stayed or syed at an mlife prop in years. They just match the names now. I would stay at a non mlife property.

 

Thanks for the post. That's exactly what I was beginning to figure out. They have all kinds of ways to keep tabs on people, even when choosing not to use their MLife card/account. (A book I recently read actually said casinos are alerted when you use an ATM at a competing property in the area!)

I have canceled my MGM reservation and am using a comp offer at Golden Nugget, one of the very few places I don't care about maintaining status. lol

 

Ohhhhhh.......what book was that? Love hearing the creepy stuff they do to collect info on us, lol!

I didn't buy it on Amazon, I got it from the library. I only read the parts about Vegas though, the rest was all kind of filler that I already knew about. It is like when you google something, and 20 seconds later, you have ads for that same thing on the side of your browser. Or when you visit a website, and 20 seconds later, you get an email from that same site. It's still kind of freaks me out! LOL
