I'm looking at the NFL Supercontest at Westgate - or LVH - or whatever its called this week. :)

Has anyone done this before? I never have, coming into Vegas in a couple weeks and a buddy of mine and I are thinking of going in together on it. Being from Ohio we'd have to use proxy, and that's where my main concerns lay. How do you place your picks with the proxy? Email? Phone call? Are the proxy services legit and reliable - both from a "get picks submitted in time" standpoint and a "not going to take your money if you somehow manage to cash" standpoint.

Lastly, any personal experience (good or bad) that would cause you to recommend or not this event?

I just signed up for the second year in a row and its a very tough contest. I actually use it as a tool to help my capping and it helps me narrow down games since you need to make 5 selections.

All of the proxies that ive heard of are great an you can pm me for mine. Some take a percentage of winnings if you cash ontop of their fee. Mine is $300 flat fee and everything is done by email and even calls/texts you if you are late. If you do not respond, he submits the 5 biggest dogs of the weekend. Picks need to be submitted by friday evening to my proxy. You just need to meet him to sign up and give him the proxy rights to submit your picks. He is flawless at what he does.

No proxy can cash out for you since they only have the right to submit your picks for you, so no worries there. Any other questions, feel free to ask and good luck if you register!!!

I've always wanted to do this, but it won't be this year. I'd love to see those of you on this board that do it post your results each week just to follow along. It seems there are quite a few here that participate and it'd give a little more insight to those who have been considering it.

I'm out there in late Aug and was planning on entering. When you say proxy you literally mean physical proxy and not proxy via Vegas IP address?

Yes, physical person there with you to sign up and he/she has to go submit your picks. If you enter before the end of august, you also get a free entry into a mini contest that lasts for the last 4 or 5 weeks of the season for 15k. Its a winner take all contest. Last years mini contest winner only lost 1 game in the duration.

Jesus. That's a pretty hot run. I'm in a similar contest every year with about 50 people from Chicago/ Wash DC. $1000 entry. Guy who won picked 78% by the end of the regular season. We all stopped trying after week 6 and just tailed his picks through our locals.

I followed this guy a few years ago when he won the supercontest. Some of his stuff is interesting. For the year he won he bascially just used numbers from the box score.

Thanks for the response Bronco et.al. I'm really interested in this, although sounds like an incredibly tough contest. I've been @ around 60% last couple years, but doesn't sound like its even close to good enough.

On a related note, I'm curious as to whether anyone has done this in a group before. I tend to cap solo, but my friend (who is also a degenerate gambler like myself) wants to do this as well. He's suggesting going in together, and while I do like the idea of discussing the games (something we do constantly at work anyway), I can see where when it came time to pick it could be tough and lead to hard feelings if picks didn't go the way people hoped. Any insights or thoughts into that? I've seen pics of groups of 3-4 guys holding checks from the contest, so looks like they allow group entries (with one "responsible" entrant I assume)?

    Thanks!

I've never done the Supercontest but always wanted to. Bronco is definitely the man when it comes to the Supercontest. Very tough contest indeed.

I do an NFL handicapping contest locally and I have a group of friends where we submit a group entries. We have five total in the group and one year we took second with it (I took first that year so I double dipped).

The way we handle our group is we pick all of the games and the common entries are submitted (we are only required to pick four per week but you can pick as many games as you want). So, we end up submitting every game, every week. One person adjudicates the submissions for the group every week.

For two people, I'd probably independently handicap and rank every game and then compare notes. Submit the ones in common with the highest rankings. Maybe even have one trump card per week where you can either overrule a single pick or force a single pick.

Setting up rules beforehand and agreeing to just stick to the rules no matter what will go a long way to keeping things in check.

This will be my 4th year in a row entering the Supercontest. I think I only finished above .500 once, but if you are way out of the money late in the year you have to try to think what the consensus picks will be and then go the opposite way to make up ground. There are people who stop making picks mid-year so there is a lot of "dead money" out there, but it is still tough to profit from the contest. I've mostly started playing in it because betting offshore has become such a pain with moving the money back and forth between your financial institution and the betting sites.

I've used the same proxy for 3 years and they have never made a mistake in submitting my picks, which I send via email.

I have noticed there are a few new proxies out there offering up their services this year, that also moonlight as touts. Be careful using them, because they also have their own entries in the contest and the last thing I want is a proxy who has access to my picks and is also playing their own entry. What if you are competing with them for a spot in the money during the last couple weeks of the year? Thats a huge conflict of interest IMO.

Hershey, thanks for the info. First off, I have the same issue with offshore, its such a pain.

But I'm glad you brought up proxies, we've decided to do this, and someone said there is a proxy service that sets up shop right outside the Westgate (not sure if they meant the casino itself, or the hotel, or the book or what)...does anyone know what proxy service that is and if they're one of the 'good' ones?

    Thanks!

I'm not sure if they set up outside the Westgate daily, but they will definitely be there every weekend signing up people until the football season starts. Basically you contact the proxy via email, set up an appointment to meet at the Westgate since the contest form requires your info as well as the proxies since you are giving them the authority to submit your picks every week. I don't know if we can publicly recommend people on here, and I know that the Westgate sports book managers won't play favorites by recommending proxies either but I would just do a little research. Google search "Supercontest proxy" and look at the first few hits. Check out the twitter account and website. If you get the top result I am seeing you have found a safe legitimate proxy that many people use every year. I can't promise they are the cheapest proxy out there, but I'm going with someone I trust over saving a hundred bucks. PM me if you need confirmation of what proxy I am talking about.

I think we're looking at the same one. $300 +2% of winnings isn't the cheapest I've seen, but I also want someone I can trust. I'm a big believer in getting what I pay for, so thanks.

Cool. Winning anything in this contest is difficult, so if I ever end up in the money 2% will be a good problem to have. Best of luck this year.

Where in the dc area do you live? Im also in the area. The guy who won your pool with that percentage is amazing. Ive never seen anyone hit at a high clip like that. He wouldve won and demolished the super contest. I think last years winners were around 72% which is also a very high percentage.

Technically I'm in Maryland. I live in Chevy Chase about 1 mile north of DC.

After week 6 it just got old. The guy kept going 4-1 every week. I don't think he was a football guy either. Just a casual bears fan.

Rules say - Contestents pick 5 pro games against the contest spread each week. Is this spread the normal Vegas pt spreads on these games or something different? Any info is appreciated. I will be out Sept 6-10 so plan to enter and set up a proxy Suggestions?

The lines for the contest are opening lines and never move when the lines move. You can often see soft lines in the contest since they do not change.
