Hey, I'm trying to book a best room possible for one night, for the cheapest possible rate. I'm planning on surprising my girlfriend and actually proposing to her (Don't hate!). We're gonna stay at The Mirage for 14 nights in August but I'm gonna double book the one night.

Looks like Monday is the cheapest day but really struggling on how and when to book it. From what I've seen, terrace one bedroom seems great cause it has that Japanese kind of tub, looks brilliant for this matter, it's $220 + $40 fountain view upgrade + resort fees + taxes, so overall not too bad. Since I really really, want a good room, I suppose it's better to just book what I want instead of trying the $20 trick? Are there any discounts anywhere that wouldn't require a minimum of 2 night stay?

Also their site says that I need to have a valid CC and there's a $150 incidental hold. Problem is that I don't have a CC, my girlfriend does but for obvious reasons I can't use it. Is it possible to just pay it in cash? Or if I pay the room in full in advance, can I just waive the possibility of room charges or something like that?

Any tips on everything is highly appreciated, I've never actually stayed at Cosmo since it's way out of my price range.

The 1 bedroom and the terrace studio are both standard rooms and both comes with a balcony. I actually prefer the terrace studio due to the weird layout of the 1 bedroom. Sometimes you can get a really nice rate on their suites(terrace suite and wraparound) especially on a weekday so that might be worth looking into. The terrace suite is much more impressive then the standard rooms and they all come with a fountain view so that should be worth taking into consideration if its not a big price difference from the rate you already got.

As far as the CC issue i have no idea, just call and ask i guess.

either room is fine, because you'll just propose on the balcony in either case
as far as the CC issue?, if you have a debit card?, they'll just charge like $200 on it and refund it 2-4 days after you checkout

OK I just did you a favor and called Cosmo for you
they really want a CC or Debit card to make the reservation
so if you can get a family member to put it on their card, you can pay the charges plus incidental/security deposit
as soon as you check in
and wipe out any charge on their card, all w/o your GF getting involved

    Wow frank67, nicely done.

What if he purchases a prepaid CC? Would that be acceptable?

Whoa, thanks a lot frank, I appreciate your help. I'm gonna make my reservation with my debit card but the problem is:

    INCIDENTALS POLICY
A valid credit card authorized to cover additional room and tax, plus $150 a night for incidentals must be presented upon check-in.

It's doutbful I'll have money on my card at that point since I'm planning on exchanging everything I have to my name to USD before I leave. Their site also says:

    DEPOSIT POLICY
A deposit of the first night room and tax will be charged at the time of booking.

So I'm forced to pay the whole reservation in advance anyway. Won't be charging anything to the room anyway but I'd be happy to give them all the cash they need for a deposit...

Where are you from? If you are coming in from a different country and have a debit card associated with Visa or Mastercard is just as good as a credit card. Also there is no need to exchange everything into USD since you will get a better exchange rate using a ATM.

From Finland, northern Europe. I've got a Master Card debit, my bank charges flat fee of $2 + 2,5% per withdrawal outside EU countries. Can't be a better rate than changing it back home where I can do it for free without comission.

I think if it's far enough in advance he can send a check and front the rack rate +whatever incidentals

so guys?, it's the room price and tax/fees PLUS a single $XXX deposit for room charges/minibar

Im from Sweden and i think too need to look into it, i have lived in the states for over 4 years and still go back there for 5-6 weeks total every year and exchanging money at a bank will always be a lot more expensive then using a ATM. But you will have to check with your bank and ask them why they charge you such a hefty fee, in Sweden its anywhere between 0-2% depending on what card you are using. I also think you misunderstood that you can exchange money at home without commission, usually when they say so its because they are using a terrible exchange rate instead of charging you a flat fee.

About your MasterCard it will work everywhere in the US you just need to use it as a credit card. When you pay for it in stores you will just have use the credit card instead of debit card as you would do in Europe. The same goes for ATM´s as you always withdrawal from the credit card option but as mentioned you will be fine using it in any store as well as at Cosmo.

Also the 2-2,5% fee per withdrawal will be the same in every country you visit outside of Finland(that don't have € as a currency), its free to withdraw within EU but the added exchange rate will always be the same in % no matter where you go. They don't however charge you a flat withdrawal fee within EU and in US it will be something like 2-3 bucks at a decent bank.

If the price is going to be a factor i would recommend the following:-

Sign up to ebates.com (a US referral site that can pay out via paypal)
Use the ebates.com link to go to priceline (Currently 4.5% cashback)
Search for the individual dates you want in August with Las Vegas, Express Deals
It will list all hotels without names but you're looking for 5* rates, Las Vegas Strip South and 'Bed Choice Available'
Click onto here and as an example for Monday 17th May you can get a Terrace 1 Bed for £121 or a studio with fountain view for £131 which both appear much cheaper than on the Cosmo website especially when you'll get a % back.

I just used this for my June/July trip and got a sunday night for £67

I'd also second the idea of a prepaid travel card, in the UK we have UKASH which might be useful, don't know if its available where you are but sure it would be...

Decided to just post a follow up on here without starting a new thread. I booked a room for 1 night on monday, Aug 24th. Went with 1 bedroom terrace cause it seemed nice, I know my girlfriend will love the japanese style pool. I paid $302 for it, incl taxes, resort fee and fountain view. I also managed to sort the CC issue with them.

Now onto a new subject, I couldn't specify any requests when making the reservation. Given thr circumstances, it's extremely cruicial that I get a high floor from the east tower. It's even more important than the room itself. When do you think I should arrive on the property? Do they charge extra for early check in? If so, how much? I was planning on going there at noon and literally stand there for as long as it takes to get the room. I've had too many bad encounters with blocked rooms that I won't take anyone's word for anything, I need the room on the spot.

Just past the lobby is the Vesper Bar. When you are next in line, you could suggest your gf go get you both a specialty cocktail from there. That will buy you some time. When you get to the desk, quickly explain you plan to propose and you'd like to do it in a room with a particular location. I'm willing to bet they will accommodate you, if at all possible.

I've been able to check in early a couple of times without issue. I would go a little early so that you could specify an East Tower high floor room. This way they could call/text you when one becomes available. If it's midweek and they're not booked up for a convention you stand a decent chance. I would keep an eye on their website and see what the room rates look like as you get closer and see if any rooms are marked as sold out. That may give you a feel for how full the hotel might be.

Aug 24th is on a Monday right? I have checked in as early as 10am at Cosmo without any problems and that was on a Friday on a sold out weekend. On a weekday it should be easier but you never know and as always it depends on how busy they are. Is there a specific reason you want the east tower? Both towers has it advantages but if you tell them at check about your plans they might be able to hook you up with a terrace suite for free. The problem with that is they are all located in the west tower but is twice the room the 1 bedroom is and is built specifically with an angle to have the best fountain views in the entire hotel.

I actually have plans to tell my girlfriend that I'm gonna play a poker tourney in which case she'll hit the pool and stay there or go back to our room. I've done it several times and she's actually not once come down and actually see me playing there. Last year I even won one tourney and it lasted several hours. Having said that, it's a fucking guaranteed thunderstorm that morning, in which case I'm gonna have to tell her that natedog has requested me to be his goodluck charm at the Wynn and I need to take off.

Anyway, in the end I'm going to Cosmo alone to get everything set, I'm just not sure when I should go there so I don't have to kill time waiting for a room but I would like to get it way before 2pm cause I've got plenty of plans for the day/evening. Having looked at videos on youtube I figured east tower has to best view of the fountains. Isn't that the one closer the the strip? And yeah it's monday, it had the cheapest rates so picked that one.

Maybe you are already locked in, but 14 nights in the same hotel? There is so much variety on the strip, have you considered breaking up your trip into at least 2, if not more places?

I have, but to be honest, I can't afford to give play to 2 different programs, I'm being heavily comped at The Mirage and none of the lower end MGM hotels interest me. The only reasonable option would be Aria or maybe Bellagio but they are a bit too pricey for me. I'm hoping I can create something at my brief visit to Cosmo so I could go back there for a few nights next trip. So far I've wagered $0 at non-MGM casinos.

Cosmo only rates slot play and hotel/ restaurant spending towards tier credits

so if you plan on building a relationship with them?...it will not be on your gambling at the BJ/craps/baccarat or roulette tables
