Certainly not gourmet quality, but better than buffet style is Hash House-a-Go-Go. It's the best thing on their menu, IMHO.

Blueberry Hill Family Restaurant and The Grand Lux Cafe are two places where I've tried Chicken and Waffles in Las Vegas.

I agree with geoff. Bouchon's version is very good. The last time I checked (a while ago), the dish was only available on weekends.

Tried it this past Feb at Hash House at Linq...have to say it was the worst meal I have ever had in Las Vegas. It was cold, chewy and little flavor. Too bad as I was really looking forward to it.

Other than being a quaint southern item and a current fad among the foodies, can someone explain the attraction of this dish? Am I the only person around that thinks the combo of sugar, grease, dough and poultry is unappetizing. From a nutrition standpoint, I wouldn't go within 10 feet of chicken and waffles.

I also fine it unappetizing. Nothing wrong at all with the food, they are both delicious as individual items. I just feel when they are put together as a meal it seems odd.

I'm not a huge fan, but my wife every now and then when she wants to break from her marathon training will indulge in one of these. Bouchon and Grand Lux Café in V/P both have excellent renditions. At Grand Lux it is very much like a funnel cake, if that's the style you like.

You couldn't be more wrong in your assumption. Its a north-east dish. Waffles were brought over from France to the shipping ports of the north east. When the slaves left the south and moved up north they brought their fried chicken with them. That is when chicken and waffles were born. Yeah if I were you I would stick with your bland Midwest food.

Well, leggo my Eggo then! I learned something new today and it's not even noon! I wonder if they were frozen?

I saw another version on a menu at a Pennsylvania Dutch diner, chicken in gravy over waffles.

I really enjoy the Grand Lux version. The chicken is boneless, the waffle is light and crispy and they add powdered sugar and I think, pecans. They serve it with a honey-butter sauce. Making myself hungry!

I don't eat nuts so I took most of them off before this picture, but it was yummy!

    lol

Fried chicken and a waffle ain't exactly Szechuan, even with a little help from Mr. Cholula or Ms. Crystal.

Now a dietician certainly could talk to the health "benefits" of such inputs, but like many such "bad" things, it sure can taste good.

(I believe the Dutch actually get the credit for the waffle in America, though with his return from France Jefferson popularized a lot of French things, including a particular type of waffle iron.)
