3rd street. Just walk down Fremont st. until you see the The Grand up one of the side streets. It's right there.

It's a great way to spend 2 hours (at the most). If mob history is your thing you'll enjoy it.

We went there last year and really enjoyed it. It took us over 3 hours to go thru, I would plan an afternoon there. I am not big into Mob history, but found it very interesting an informative. DH on the other hand is very into Mob history. I wish we could have had more time to go thru it.

I wouldn't make a special trip downtown for just the mob museum but I'd make a whole day of it. Downtown is a lot better than it used to be. It's quiet during the day. Downtown Grand is very nice, classy joint. Maybe gamble there a little, visit the museum, have a drink at Hogs and Heifers, buy some beef jerky, it's a fun day/evening downtown. I'm certainly no expert to Thai food but the pad see ew at the Thai place on Fremont across from El Cortez was very tasty.

I think the Mob Museum is great. If you're not into downtown then you could have a great afternoon between the Mob Museum and the Neon Museum.

Yes, but a few years ago, shortly after it opened. It's well worth it, particularly if you hearken back to the Bad Old Days (tm) when the Mob Ran Vegas (tm) prior to the Corporate Takeover (tm). :)

Allow about three hours for it, really! They also used to have the Mob Bar up the street, but I guess that's gone now.

Hmmmm ... in 2050 will they be opening up the Corporate Museum? :) :) :)

I've visited the Mob museum twice, once solo and again with my adult daughter....spent 3 hours each time and thought it was well worth it. It's a nice way to take an afternoon break from gambling. It's located a couple of blocks north of FSE...don't worry, the area is very safe to walk to the Museum.

    I did that too.
    It didn't last long.
If it wasn't for the movie, it would have only been about a 20 minute event.

Can someone recommend a good movie that may have some of the characters in the mob museum to catch my wife up on the history.

Casino is on tonight on AMC! Great movie, lots of stars including Oscar Goodman! if you don't know who he is, google him. As a matter of fact, google the movie.

I'm with most everyone else here. Spent close to 3 hours in there and could have spent more but, then again, I'm fascinated with the history of the "mob" completely apart from Vegas so it was a slam dunk. Definitely worth the trip.

Gonna disagree with the others that said "Casino" (though that is an out-STANDING movie). Two things that work against it... (1) "Casino" uses fictitious characters, so unless you know the names of the real-life players and properties (Frank Rosenthal, Anthony Spillotro, Joseph Aiuppa and the Frontier, the Marina and mostly the Stardust) "Casino" would be of no help, and (2) the Mob Museum is of all mafia in the United States, so much of the museum is related to Meyer Lansky, Lucky Luciano, Al Capone, etc., etc.

The Mob Museum took me over four hours to go through, as I read just about every placard and sign along the way.

I can't suggest one movie, per se, but watch any mob-related special on the History Channel and you will begin to get an idea of some of the players you'll read about at the Mob Museum.

(A bit of a tangent, I personally found that the American Justice special "Vegas and the Mob" is the best Vegas-related mob documentary that I've seen. I recorded it off of TV about 10 years ago and I still watch it before every Vegas trip.)

Have to agree with mjames. Casino is a great movie and will give you an idea of how the mob worked in Vegas, but not directly related to the Mob Museum unless you understand the references.
I also spent over 3 hours in there and it might have been longer if my itch to gamble didn't overwhelm my interest in the Mob. :evillaugh

Mob Museum is fun, it's sometimes on Groupon or Travelzoo. I believe there is also a combo deal with the Neon boneyard (which is also fun).
