Okay, here's the most dumb question in the history of the VMB:

How do you play bingo? I know there's the card with B.I.N.G.O on it and 5 numbers below each letter (except the middle one on the card) and you'll have to watch which numbers come up and check them.
But then... when you (for example) have a horizontal line, that's a bingo right? Do you really have to shout 'BINGO' as loud as you can? Or do they check the cards afterwards?
There are also 'electronic bingo thingies', right? Can you just sit down and let the machine do the work?

As Sam's Town is kind of our home base for the first two nights of every trip and seeing all the bingo advertisements there, I want to be like a real Sam's Town granny and play bingo once, but I just don't know how to do it or what/how many/which cards to buy (I also see things like 'rainbow' 'blue' 'red', giant rainbow... what the hell is that?)

Okay, so if anyone is into bingo and can explain some things to me so I can play bingo like a real bingo-pro granny, that would be awesome!!

    Thanks!

PS. Yes, I'm 31 and I really want to play bingo.... :')

It's worth the experience. I have only played it once or twice, so I'll let others with more experience comment in more detail.

AFAIK, you can only win on the last number called, so yelling "BINGO" at the top of your lungs is encouraged. Just make sure that it's not a "Bad BINGO" <G>.

    Things I've learned:

1)Only buy as many cards as you can keep track of. Start with 3 or 6, go up or down as necessary.
2)The electronic bingo scorers are good, but they take away the fun

Thanks!!! That already helped me clear some things up :D
Do you get the dauber with your cards or do you buy those separately?n

Oh, and what happens if you get a 'bad bingo'?

You have to buy daubers. AFAIK, bad bingos just "don't win", but, you are subject to the derision of all of those in the room.

I love Bingo!! but Vegas bingo is different than our local bingo! So when i went to Sams and played bingo there about 5 years ago, we got the paper and maybe ot was the drinks, but we had a hardtime, not following along, but figuring out what the rainbow and all that stuff!! we also got as many drinks as we wanted but I read they limit you now??
Just buy the machine, sit back and drink and if it says bingo on your machine, Yell loudly!!!

I recommend you get the electronic validated rainbow bonus pack. LOL

Vegas bingo isn't church bingo. I just tell the clerk how much I want to spend and get the electronic bingo machine. Otherwise, it's too complicated to play and drink at the same time.

Church bingo is the one line Bingo. Vegas bingo is double postage stamps, double hardways.

There is a vending machine that sells the daubers.

Just get one sheet with six small games on each page. Sit with people who are happy to keep an eye on it for you. Just ask someone if they could help if you get confused. Most will say sure, no problem. If they don't then move. You can see the number called and when you get to two numbers needed check with the electronic board that shows all the called numbers that you haven't missed one. The way the win is, a letter x or one line etc, will be displayed on the electronic board too.

Watch the paper and the electronic board and have helpful people and you'll be fine. Don't try and do too many or you will get very stressed out. Have the minimum buy in first and see how you cope and then maybe extra the next time.

Check out my review on silver sevens in the off strip threads section for their bingo which is just a bus ride away from SAMs town and will have far less people playing for a change if you want to try another one too.

Above all don't worry about calling bingo and being wrong. It happens often. Better to call if you think you may have won than keep quiet and lose.

The electronic machines are very easy, just open them and put your number in, job done, everything is automatic except you still have to call bingo, it won't do that, lol.

Thank you all so much for your fast replies, I really appreciate it!

Okay, so I will buy a few cards (don't want to get too stressed), buy a dauber, watch the numbers and the pattern and daub away :D
Hahaha, I'm actually really looking forward to it.

Thanks so much for helping me getting started :)

Ok, I was thinking of trying the bingo at the plaza come august but have similar questions, mainly what is the "rainbow" is it the booklet of ten sheets or so that you play the common games of the evening on? I get the electronic devices and will go that route to open up the focus to include drinks. What is the rainbow? and can I just ask them to give me a fifty or seventy five dollar pack?

I got initiated into Indian casino bingo a few months ago. The most important thing to realize IMO, is that until you've gained experience DO NOT try and watch too many cards. The other thing to try and do is set up your cards (daubing the numbers that don't matter) for the different pattern games before that game starts. Where I played, they gave you a pamphlet showing the pattern(s) for each game when you purchased a package. AGAIN just my opinion....doing serious drinking and trying to learn bingo hall bingo simultaneously might not be a good idea. Or it might be a really fun time?? As far as the machines go...they do everything but yell bingo!! Try it, you'll have a fun experience.

Plaza hands out drink tickets. Two tickets per person per session.

Different color cards pay different amounts and cost different prices to buy. For example, a red card might cost $5 each and pay $50 for a bingo. A tan card might cost $10 and pay $200 for a Bingo. The rainbow pack gives an assortment of colors.

Vegas bingo also has double dauber cards with two numbers in each square. Either number takes the square.

The electronic machines play a tune when you hit a Bingo. But you still have to yell out. The more experienced folks yell, "winner" instead of "bingo".

They call the numbers very quickly in Vegas. If you spend $25 on a rainbow pack, you can't keep up. It's like Lucy and Ethel at the candy factory.

Validated is similar to a progressive. You pay an extra dollar or two to get in the validated game. If you hit a the grand finale Bingo in less than a certain number of numbers, you the validated money. If no one hits in less than the preset number of numbers, the validated money carries over to the next game. If you hit but didn't pay to get in the validated pot, you just win the regular amount of money. The validated jackpots get up there. Someone won like $20k when I was at the Green Valley Ranch bingo.

Hey, LinLV, I'm with you! I want to play it too.

I think it'd be fun to experience another gaming activity in Vegas.

That is actually a really great idea! When (for example) you have to make an X, just daub all the numbers outside the X, very smart!
Don't you ever have to use your card a second time, for a full card or something?

Exactly that! With the time difference (9 hours, from The Netherlands) in Vegas, we usually wake up early (5-6 am). A morning round of bingo sounds like an awesome plan :D

It's been a few years since I did Bingo at Sam's Town...but with the electronic bingo card machines, you simply tell the cashier how many "packs" you want and any extras. You pay them and your receipt has an ID number. You enter that ID into the electronic machine and voila...your games are all ready to go.

I prefer the electronic devices for several reasons:

    1. It will not make a mistake. The numbers mark automatically. I forgot if you have to enter the number called or if it enters automatically. I think it's automatic now.
    2. It will show your top cards that are closest to winning.
    3. It tells you when you bingo.
    4. It frees my hands up for drinking.
    5. It frees my eyes up for people-watching.
    6. It frees up my brain for relaxing.

My mother preferred playing both paper cards and electronic at the same time. Whatever you choose, just have fun. It's Vegas!

Are the electronic packages used only at the bingo hall it is bought from?
Do all bingo halls have the electronic package?

    This thread is a hoot!

Valid reasons to play on an electronic device!

You know what, maybe I'll play 2 rounds! One on an electronic device to see how it all works without the possibility of making major mistakes and than on paper. Hm... sounds like an awesome plan :D

    Yes and yes.

All the bingo halls seem to use the same electronic device. You're given a receipt after you pay and you enter this receipt number into the electronic device. It just knows what you bought and what the numbers are. You need to keep your receipt to prove you paid for the receipt number you're playing.

Often times, there are two or three games on the same card so don't go filling numbers unless you know you won't be needing that card anymore.
