    My Trip Report

    June 5, 2005
We got up at 4:00 a.m. and started the drive from Idaho to Vegas. GPS said it took just under 8 hours to get to Circus Circus. We arrived and checked in and got our room in the main tower. It was an ok room. We have stayed in the Manor rooms before and will never do that again. After we got settled in our room we went to eat at Ellis Island My wife and I both had the steak special. Mine was good but my wife’s was even better (tenderer). After we ate we drove up and down the strip and took pictures. Since we were at the south end of the strip we went out to the Las Vegas Outlet Mall. My wife’s cousin called, who flies helicopters for Sundance, and we went to see him take off with a tour group. We will be flying with him on Tuesday night. We went to the new Wynn Hotel and it was somewhat of a let down. It needs something more, just not sure what. It was nice but just wasn’t anywhere near the Bellagio in my opinion. I will have to say the sign out in front was way cool the way it moved up and down and the video went along with it. We went to Freemont Street to take pictures of the light show. We saw the gold nuggets at The Golden Nugget and went on down the street to Main Street Casino and saw the Berlin Wall in the men’s bathroom.

Found wifi at Circus Circus back parking lot right by the Adventure Dome checked my e-mail and then we went to the Peppermill to eat breakfast. We split the French toast and my wife really liked it. Then we drove out to Henderson to tour Ethel M’s chocolate factory. They were making almond butter crisps witch was interesting. The chocolate was good as usual. Then we walked through the cactus gardens. We then went to the Ocean Spray factory to do the tour and when we got there we found a big sign saying they aren’t giving tours anymore. After that we drove out to see the Green Valley Ranch. Did some gambling and ate at their lunch buffet. We were impressed with the décor and wood work. We liked it better than the Wynn. My wife was sad there wasn’t any shrimp on the buffet. :( But all in all it was a good meal. I really liked the stir fry. We drove out so see my cousin, the owner of 702 Motoring and drove in his “blinged†out Hummer. He took a $50,000 Hummer and put over $70,000  worth of video, computer, satellites and stereo equipment in and customized with anything you could ever want. It was amazing. There was high speed internet, satellite TV, satellite radio, and phone, and DVD players and 8 video monitors. It had anything you could put inside of a car. Hey Mikey if you want to trick out the “ghetto sledâ€, go to 702 Motoring. We came back to Circus Circus and played some roulette and blackjack. I played black jack on $40 for several hours and my wife went up over $100 on the roulette wheel.

We found the wifi this morning again at the same spot in the back parking lot. This morning for breakfast we decided to eat at the Peppermill again. We had the ham and cheese omelet and split it. It was so much food that both of us couldn’t eat it all so we left some behind. The food was great but the service was nonexistent this time. We ordered and had to wait for a while then we got our food and never saw the waitress at our table again. We had to ask other waitresses walking by for more water and syrup for my wife and I think the hostess was the one who brought our bill. We then drove down and parked at Caesars Palace and walked through the new Forum shops. The circular escalator is amazing and we were able to watch the people get ready for the Victoria Secrets model shoot that was going to be there in the next couple of days. They poured some red dye into the fountains that turned the water pink. We then drove over to the Bellagio to check out the lunch buffet but after looking at the price and the food options (no shrimp for my wife to eat) we decided to go to the Rio buffet, I would have tried Bellagio buffet but my wife wanted at least one meal of shrimp. We had a coupon for $5.00 off of at the Rio (thanks to the link I got here at travel2vegas) so it was cheaper and it is still my favorite buffet (GVR Buffet was also really good for the price). While we were eating we got a call from Sundance helicopters and they offered us a free upgrade on our flight. We originally were going on the strip night light tour but we were the only ones on that flight and the flight before that went out to Hoover Dam and over Lake Mead had three open spots so they offered us the upgrade free. After we got done eating at the Rio we went back to the hotel and waited for them to come and pick us up for the helicopter ride. When we got there we paid for our flight (we already got the family discount, my wife’s cousin is a pilot there) it was $120 for the both of us and the next guy paid $190  just for one, so there was a $260 ;) bonus. It was amazing and I would recommend to anyone. This was the first time both me and my wife have ever been on a helicopter. It was a lot of fun. We flew out to the south then came back around towards the north on the strip until we got to Tropicana and the turned towards Henderson and flew out to Hoover Dam. We circled around the dam and flew out over Lake Mead and the turned back towards Vegas. We flew over Fremont Street and down the west side of the strip. After we got back from the helicopter ride we went back to Bellagio and watched the water show. The first one was kind of ok, so we stuck around for the next one. We had to laugh after we watched the second one, the little girl next to us said to her mom that this one was better than the last one. A bunch of taxis drove by while we were at the water show honking their horns. We wondered what that was all about. After that we went back to Circus Circus and I had better luck tonight at blackjack, but my wife did not have much luck at roulette.

This morning we got up and packed checked out and loaded up the car and stopped out back of Circus Circus to log on to the free wifi we found. Then we headed down to the breakfast buffet at Paris. It was good as usual. My wife loves this place. After breakfast we got on the freeway and headed back home.

Thanks for the good read. Y'all managed to do a bunch of stuff in a short time. I keep thinking we'll do the Ethel M's tour, but never have. Maybe next time?

I don't think that's very likely. I'm gonna retire the Ghetto Sled pretty soon. And by retire I mean take it out to the desert and go full-on Office Space on it with baseball bats and rap music...

Ah, c'mon--if you're not going to get any trade-in value for it, you could at least donate it to charity. Don't you know that the Kidney Foundation wants your car??

    Ummm, yeah...

Maybe it would be wiser to donate it to the Liver Foundation. At the current rate, you will need the services of the liver folks sooner than you think.
