In your circle of friends, family, neighbors, are you the thrower of parties, the preparer of dinners, the planner of get togethers or do you show up grateful and ready to roll?

(Parties, dinners, get togethers ... no thanks?!?)

I love to buy meat, prepare, marinate, grill etc no matter if its at my home or someone elses. If the get together is at someone elses home, I still love to grill the food on hand.

Besides occasional wine tasting at my place, I'm usually an attender of parties. But if it's a Vegas trip, I make the plans.

For years I threw a backyard party for around 50-70 of my friends, co-workers & family every summer. I also had to invite the neighbors because it got loud. I supplied the beer, usually 3 half barrels and all the booze. Burgers, brats and 13 dozen ears of corn was the norm. If somebody wanted to bring something, great.

Now, I am an attendee. No more hosting.

We love to attend stuff, but most things happen here, from the big holidays to our annual shrimp boil to nearly-weekly wine dinners and as often as possible having friends/family from out of town here for long weekends. One of the must-haves when we moved was two dedicated guest rooms/bathrooms as we hoped to have frequent visitors and it has worked out that way. The SoCal-ers particularly like to get out of the frenzy and the Canuckistanis seem to get through once a year. We're blessed with friends, family, love and good times.

For planned parties I tend to be an attendee more than a host.

For impromptu events I help get the ball rolling from idea to implementation.

I am the Designated Guest. I am the eater of food, the drinker of drink, the teller of tall tales, the one easy to ignore.

The one who drops the first F-Bomb around the kids.

I might bring a case of Coors Light and a crockpot of kielbasa and sauerkraut.

I am the settler of trivia and sports debates.

I leave when the beer is gone.

Mostly hostly. Helps that I like to cook. With a few exceptions, Mag doesn't like overnight guests, but then again, who visits Akron?

I'm the guy who shows up single, people try to get o the bottom of why that is, I get frustrated with the grand inquisition, so I start up a game of some sort. When I host poker night I also make everyone their own individually served nacho dip because nothing sends shivers down my spine more than someone's paws however directly over my dip!

Well - the last party I attended was yesterday at the beach and I think I was the entertainment. Hubby took the picture - I had no idea my hair looked like this until I got home and looked at my phone pictures. Salt water and chemo hair does not mix :) badhair.jpg

10-4. You can bunk here, we'll put Ms. M up at Embassy Suites.

BTW, we quit Melville. You'll have to host us over there.

At family and friends parties I was the designated drink and ice guy. I bought the ice, beer, mixed drinks, juices, sodas, and bottled water.

I also was the designated grace guy. I did the blessings before we had our meal. How I was appointed that is beyond me. I'm like Breeze. F-bombs every third word. Boy was I nervous when I said grace......

Was the cook, before I followed the job out east. A year might have had a dozen dinner parties, the same number of birthday parties, a couple of Saint's feasts, eight rugby Bar-B-Ques and two visits from the Hooters Girls, c/w kegs and wings.

Funny about the Grace, I said it at home with my family, switching it up between the one from my Mother's side, and the one from my Father's. Think now if I had to do it all over again (well, besides leaving), I'd have thrown out the Burn's Grace at public meals, the one that ends "We have meat and we can eat, so let the Lord be thanked".
