So staying at luxor 2 nights and then mandala for the last night. but we spend most of our time bouncing around midstrip. (ceasers, cosmo, mirage, Planet Hollywood, harrahs, Carnival ccourt)

Would the free tram that goes from mandala to luxor to excaliber be beneficial for us? seems like we would spend just as much time walking from the casino to the tram station and back then if we just walked down the strip.

other option was to purchase mono rail passes (free from myvegas) but even that we would have to cross the street from our hotel, run to the back of mgm? or whatever the south spot is and ride it down to harrah then walk through the property to the front.

Can anyone attest to either of these ways being faster than just walking?

To get to Cosmo, the closest on your list to your hotels, taking the monorail from Luxor to Excalibur will likely be a wash in time (getting to the station, waiting for the train), but it would save you a lot of walking in the desert heat. From there, you still have a long walk to the Cosmo.

To get to Harrah's, you could cross the street from Excalibur and go to the MGM monorail station. Expect a 20 minute walk just for that leg of the journey. This would definitely be less walking than just trying to walk to Harrah's.

You didn't ask this, but based on your desired destinations and the fact you are going with at least another person, I would break your visits in to two days and take a taxi. Take a cab to Cosmo and PH. The next day cab to Harrah's and enjoy Mirage and Caesar's.

Interesting, I may have to try to break up the trip that way, thanks!

We have also stayed at Luxor and Excalibur, but also like to spend time mid strip as well.

That tram for Excalibur, Luxor and Mandalay Bay - its pretty much useless unless you are going from one end to the other (if you are at Luxor and want to go to Excalibur it'd be faster to just walk next door)

Taking the Monorail (from MGM Grand to Bally's, Flamingo or Harrah's): Yes, its a bit of a walk to get to the MGM station and then when you get to your destination you are at the back of the property... but when we rode it we would actually take in the trip to the monorail: We'd go over to Tropicana and gamble there for maybe an hour, go to MGM GRand and gamble there or maybe pick up some lunch at the food court and work our way back to the monorail and then take it to our destination.
But if it was just a straight up "here we are at (Luxor or Excalibur) and we are going to go straight to the monorail, not stop at all along the way, ride it to the Harrah's stop and then head straight out to The Strip so we can go gamble at Mirage" then in that case I'd just take a taxi to Mirage.

The Bus: this is also an option because you can just walk across the street from Luxor and catch The Deuce. The bus does really start to slow down around Paris, but if you are only going there or one more stop then thats not too bad.

And then there is the taxi: from Luxor to most places mid strip (Planet Hollywood to Venetian/Cosmopolitan to Mirage) the taxi is only going to cost $10-15. Yes, more expensive than taking the monorail, but to get to the monorail from Luxor its a 15-20 minute walk (about 0.85 miles) and the its only going to save you about $3-4 if there are two of you if you have to buy the tickets. If you get the tickets for free from MyVegas you will save more taking the monorail, but it is still a bit of a walk.

Like Savage said, the tram from Luxor to Excalibur will probably only save you a few minutes if you you're luck enough to catch one at the right time. It will be a big help when you're staying at MB for your last night.

The Las Vegas monorail would be helpful when shooting down to the Mirage though. Any stop before that would probably be a wash because of the time it takes to walk through MGM. With my upcoming trip at MB, I've been trying to plan some of my activities to reduce the amount of walking. MB is a great resort, but sadly not in the best location.

Only thing we might try is the free tram from mandala to Excalibur then walk to Monte Carlo and hop on that free tram to Bellagio

This isn't a bad thing to do. The bellagio stop puts you kind of around the corner from Jean philippe. we did the reverse of that this past weekend and it was a bit of a time saver but mostly it got us out of the sun.

If you don't mind the walk just walk through Monte Carlo, enter through Aria and out to VDara to get to Bellagio. Mostly out of the heat. Sometimes you can walk faster from Aria to Bellagio then taking the tram.

I take the bus everywhere. $20 gets you an unlimited 3 day pass. The Deuce stops frequently, the SDX has less stops. So I hop on the SDX usually when going downtown or north strip. I usually stay at ExCal since it is very convenient to catching the bus to South Point for an expo that I usually attend. Will take the Monte Carlo tram if on that side and heading back to base to get out of the heat, sit and avoid some of the construction detours walking.

Lux to Excal is and indoor walk. Then a short outdoor walk to NYNY. Go through NYNY then short outside to Monte Carlo.

We walk from M-Bay all the way to Mirage often via the above path, and sometimes the MC to Bellagio tram.

Going all the way to the back of MGM to get the monorail is a possibility, but we usually just walk. If too tired or drunk to walk back, we do a cab.

The Monorail is on the other side of the strip, and quite a ways into the MGM. Expect about 15 to 20 minutes walk just to get there. This is ok if you're heading to the north end of the strip.

You might be better off hopping on the Deuce. Just cross the street and ride it up as far as you want.
