Four of us are headed downtown Thursday morning for 3-4 hours of slot play followed by lunch at Du-pars or someplace similar.

Which one or two casinos are your favorites for this amount of time? I'll be playing mostly dollar slots, one person video poker, and two are primarily penny slot players.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

Because the casinos are so close to each other downtown, you won't need to limit yourself to just one casino. You might have fun casino-hopping during those 3-4 hours checking out multiple properties.

If Dupar's is too busy when you go for lunch, consider 777 Brew Pub inside Main Street Station.

You will be able to find pretty good pay-tables at most of the downtown casinos. Due to the uniqueness of it, I would suggest at least checking out the upstairs at the D for the Sigma Derby game.

MSS/CAL would be a great choice! Great VP pay tables at both places and good choices for lunch. They are connected by a pedestrian walkway over the street.

I like MSS too. Great relaxed vibe, good VP. If you like beer, they have a great brew pub and you will get it comped.

I wish I was there right now playing VP or Blackjack.

In 3-4 hours? All of them! VP player will like MSS. For regular slots, just wander and find a place/machine you enjoy.

I totally agree. In 3-4 hours you'll be able to hit most all of them. Going up one side of Fremont starting at the D, then 4Queens, Golden Nugget, Golden Gate then cross over Main St to the Plaza. Take a left out of the Plaza to MSS then cross over the bridge to the Cal then next door to Las Vegas Club. Then down the other side of Fremont Street to Binions and end at the Fremont. All the while you'll have the best people watching scenery on earth.

Thanks to all for sharing - will try for as many as possible before the old dogs start barking! And I do mean old....
Based on replies, MSS will be high on our list for VP and slots with possible lunch at the Brew Pub if the gang decides against Dupars. And thanks for the hint about the pedestrian crossover to the Cal and suggested routes.

Thanks Eddyhazkell for the tip on the "D" - will look upstairs for Sigma Derby game, whatever the heck that is - but too curious now to miss out on that!

So thankful to all of you VMB'ers for your generosity - we've been slaves to the strip for so long that it's been many years since we made it downtown, and that was at nighttime for the FSE (awesome) and a short time at the Golden Nugget, so we are looking forward to some downtown casino hopping during the day.
Also this will be our first city bus trip downtown from and to the Wynn; thanks to all the VMB help that I got via a different post, we are loaded with good bus info, and prepared for a fun outing!

Unless you are all there to seed further offers, I think this is a great route.

This makes perfect sense for a run down Fremont Street. It's a good course CYainVegas (love your name!) has laid out. And if you somehow don't make it to all of them, it just means someone was successful along the way or you were having a great time somewhere. Just enjoy the evening and see how far you get.

As for restaurants, Dupar's will be backtracking if you take CY's route, but heck downtown is short enough that it's not a hardship by any means. If you don't want to backtrack you might want to consider Pizza Rock, Triple George, Hennesey's, Heart Attack Grill...lost of options at that end of town.

The ones in your group that likes to play penny slots would enjoy the ones offered at Golden Nugget. The dollar slots are plentiful and all in one place at the Fremont. VP lovers in your group will love the ones offered at MSS and the Cal, they have good pay tables for quarter play.

But like the others mentioned, you have time to try many casinos, since they are within spitting distance of each other (well, not that close, but you know what I mean, LOL!).

Downtown is unique. Have a blast!!

Chicago Brewing Company at the Four Queens is the best eat/drink/play VP bar downtown (actually it might be the only one). Kills 2 birds with 1 stone especially if you are going to be only there for several hours. Pizza Rock is a solid choice though.

If 777 at MSS had VP at their bars I might never leave that place.

If you are new to Downtown, I would Casino hop - the D, Four Queens, Golden Nugget, Golden Gate. I would do lunch at CBC in Four Queens or DuPars at Golden Gate.

If you've been there, done that, I would go to Downtown Grand. Lunch at Pizza Rock across the street.

    More ideas---

More ideas---Be sure to eat a snack shrimp cocktail at Dupars --- have lunch elsewhere ---
A unique casino to visit is Mermaids... with their “girls” and $1.29 Nathan's hot dog.. . $1.29 fried twinkies or oreos.
---Main Street Station has a portion of the Berlin Wall located in the men's restroom and has a urinal affixed to it.

At one time, the 777 had two high top tables along the windows that had two VP games on each table. We would camp there for hours, have a snack and continue to play for hours.

Thanks Electroguy - we intend to!! The best thing about Vegas is: every single thing!

So many good suggestions - not sure we can do justice to all the tips and must try's in 3-4 hours...but will give it our all...

I think I'll skip the MSS men's room - will send one of the guys in for a looky loo of the Berlin Wall... :nono::nono:
Lunch will likely be DuPars or 777 at MSS depending on wait time - subject to change of course..
We are up for the Sigma Derby challenge and hoping for some good VP and slot action...

    Thanks again to all!

Geogran, after reading all of these very helpful posts, you may want to consider spending more than 3 or 4 hours downtown. I would suggest a full day and partial night if possible. Does anybody else agree with this? No matter what, have a great time! Let us know how it goes and what your impression of downtown was.

You were right bluesdude - 4 hours wasn't enough! We arrived downtown at 9am and caught the bus back to the Wynn (Fashion Show Mall) at 2pm. Needed a couple more hours but will have to finish next trip! Did not make it to The D, or Golden Nugget, El Cortez, or Plaza but on our list for sure next trip...

Our first time riding the bus downtown and back - four of us. Thanks to all for the valuable bus tips - it was easy peasy thanks to y'all!
Previous downtown visit was several years ago by car, and only did the FSE light show.

My impression of downtown in my best Arnold Schwarzenegger accent: "I'll be back"

    'Favorites' based on winning :)
    4 Queens -
Most wins on overall slots - pennies, quarters, dollars - played a little over an hour - walked out $325 up, hubby $130 up,
Friends were up a couple hundred on blackjack and penny slots - everyone left a winner! Liked this place.
    The Cal -
Best VP - Me: 25 cent DB VP - started with a $7.15 ticket -cashed out 15 minutes later with $270.00 - had 4 aces, several FH's, and flushes. Hubby and friends all won a little on slots.
    Fremont -
Me: dollar slots - started with $40 - Blazing sevens - 3 credits - after 4 spins hit $200, 5 spins later, hit $200 again, several bars, cashed out at $470.00 . hubby played 50 cent slots - won $150 after a few spins. Really liked this place too.
    Main Street Station -
Most disappointing as far as gambling: all four of us lost at dollar VP, 25 cent VP, no wins on slots - penny and dollar. Not enough slot choices for us unless we missed part of the casino..I know one can't win every time, so will try MSS again next trip. the 777 pub looked inviting - will try it next time.

Had early lunch at Du-pars in GG (did not play here) - had a short wait, service was just a bit slow but nice friendly service - no complaints here. Reviews from our party of four: Awesome pancakes with hot butter and syrup. BLT with avocado was good and plentiful. Good Corned beef hash and perfectly cooked eggs. Piggy me had a slice of lemon meringue pie - yumbo!!! Shared a few bites with hubby...

Thanks for all your great suggestions - most were 100% accurate and all were very helpful! And will sincerely try to do the ones missed on our next trip to Vegas.

So glad you had a good time Geogran! Wow, great hits in VP. 4 Queens is one of my favorites for gambling. I hope you signed up for some of the players clubs. You never know, you may get some offers!
