    My current strategy is this:

$100 Pass bet until the point is established. Then $100 Come bets until 3 total numbers are covered ($300 total). Then I cover the remaining numbers with $50 odds bets (which I know aren't rated) for $450 total bets out. So, will I be rated just for my pass bets, or will they consider the entire $300?

They should rate you for the whole 300
since after the point is set, they really are the same as new pass bet

Well, they should. But do they, or do they just ignore anything that happens after the point is set?

well let's face it, pass line with odds and then one come bet is just about as tight as it gets for dice
(you're giving them the least edge)
so like any other low HA game you'll be earning the lowest amount of comps or tier credits per dollar

most of my comps/credits come from BJ action and not dice...this applies to Cosmo as well
unless you're betting place/buy, field and prop bets? it seems hard to get the floor person's interest

A little confusing the way you are stating your action.
$300 rating will be your pass line and come bets.
Saying you cover "the remaining numbers" is different than taking odds behind your 3 flat bets.
If you are placing the remaining numbers for $50 ea. you will be rated at $450.If you are taking $50 odds behind your $100 flat bets you will be rated at $300.

If you are taking $50 odds behind $100 bets you should consider reversing it and betting $50 and taking $100 odds. The math works a little better.

If you're consistently playing the pass line and two come bets at $100 each, you should get rated at $300.

I usually grind it out in craps and every time I've asked after a session at an MLife property, that's how I got rated, even if there's a bunch of point-seven-outs which means you never got the 2nd come bet out.

Not sure about your betting strategy. Do you mean that you make $50 PLACE bets on the other numbers which aren't part of the pass or come bets? Or are you making $100 pass and come bets and putting down $50 in odds behind those bets (and not making any place bets)? Others have commented on your ratings but I think we first need to discuss your betting strategy before discussing your rating. Normally we would put a smaller amount on the pass and come line and back it up with a larger odds bets for those numbers. Wins on standard place and odds bets are only 1 for 1 while odds bet wins vary on the number from 2 to 1 (for the 4 and 10) to 3 to 2 (for the 5 and 9) to 6 to 5 (for the 6 and 8). Be aware that many casinos don't rate your odds bets though.

Please clarify or verify your betting strategy.

One example might be for $450 in table bets would be to make initial $50 pass and come line bets and put down $100 odds bets (with double odds) on those pass and come bets. That way you would maximize your odds bets. Unfortunately you will only be rated at $150 for your base bets but at least you will have a better house advantage by making larger odds bets.

The come out is just one roll.

    They rate you every roll.

For example: $100 pass bet. Once the point (6 for example) is established, I put down $100 Come bets. A 4 and then a 10 is rolled, so I now have come bets on 4 and 10 with a point of 6. I then put $50 odds on the 5, 8, and 9. If come bet pays off, I replace it with another Come bet and if an odds bet pays off I replace it with another odds bet.

Also, thanks to all who let me know that the Come bets will be rated so long as I place them consistently. That's what I was wondering about.

I'm thinking you mean that you are putting"Place" bets on the 5,8,and 9 because you can only put "odds" behind an existing pass line or come bet.

So based on that, your rating should be about $450

My mistake. It's been a while since I've played and I mixed them up. But, if i decide to throw odds bets into the mix, I'll shift to $50 pass and come bets with $100 place bets. Putting $500 on an odds bet is a bit too rich for me.

That is a better way to play and your rating will be close to the same.
Placing the 6 or 8 would be $90 or $120 since they pay $7 for every $6.
Most dealers will tell a player that but I have seen some that will not and you will not get full pay.

As someone else mentioned, you are making $50 PLACE bets on the 5, 8 and 9.

Stepping back, I think you need to ask someone knowledgeable how to play the game because just making $100 pass and come bets without making backup odds bets favors the house more than you. It seems like you are playing for ratings and comps but not maximizing your bets. I think someone needs to explain what odds bets are because you are confusing odds bets with place bets.

Instead of only putting down $100 on the pass and come (with no odds in back of them) you should probably put down $30 on the pass and come lines and back those bets up with $60 double odds. Even better, go downtown to Main St. Station, put down $5 on the pass and come lines and back it up with $90 odds (at MSS you can put down up to 20x odds). Yes, you won't be rated very high but at least you will have the chance to make enough to pay for whatever comps you might incur if you just put down $100 on the pass line.

I hope that someone else can clarify but making $100 bets on just the pass and come lines and not backing them up with odds is just plain crazy. (this is JMHO but many feel the same way).

I create this new thread (below) hoping that someone can help explain the concept of pass line and odds bets.

So far Chuck gave the best example on how this works financially. I added a little more to try to explain how it works with all the numbers:

if his pass or come bet is $100, and 6 or 8 is the point, if either hits he wins $100
If his pass or come bet is $25 and 6 or 8 is the point and he puts $75 in odds, he wins $115.

if his pass or come bet is $100 and the 5 or 9 is the point, if either hits he wins $100
If his pass or come bet is $30 and the 5 or 9 is the point and he puts down $60 in odds, he wins $120.

If the point was 4 or 10 and it was made, he'd win $100
If the point was 4 or 10 and he had $25 pass or come bet and $75 odds, he'd win $175

Putting down $100 on the pass or come, by not playing odds a player is probably losing between $15 and $75 per point if it hits.

Well, I have until next week to figure out a craps strategy, so I'm not married to anything right now except gambling at Aria (where I'm staying) and other MGM properties. I have no desire to hang out at Main St. Station as I'm planning to primarily play Blackjack and MSS has terrible BJ rules.

Currently, I'm planing to play $50 place with full odds. If I back up my come bets, I'll probably lower the amount (maybe to $25 with 2X odds). The basic idea is to get all the numbers covered, while trying to keep < $500 out at any given time.

You certainly will be rated for the amount of place bets you make but please remember that when you place the six or eight, it should be in denominations of six dollars, which will win you $7 per unit. So you should 'nt place $50 on the eight, but rather $48 which should win you $56. If you bet $50 on the eight, you will only get paid $58 (only one-to-one for those last two additional dollars).

Would you get better comp rates if you played on those electric game craps machine, thereby gaining 100% rating on bets because the pit boss can miss some bets?

My strategy to play craps for comps is to play the don't with odds. Less variance, and lower house edge. Your money lasts longer and you don't take as crazy swings.

You want to play for comps? I say don't but if you do play the doey/don't and lay the number. If you play 500 do (cover the 12) and 550 don't with a lay on the number of day 150 your avg is 1200 a hand. You well get just about whatever you want!

I have seen people play the doey/don't system that used to be advocated by Frank Scoblete. He has since stopped recommending it.
My question is do they actually rate both sides of the bet?
How much would you cover the 12 for with $500/$550?
I have never played this way and rarely play don't but this would seem to be a way to boost your average if you had a day or two of short play on a trip.
