Both Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods are doing a new promotion on certain days, a high hand in the room payout that might come as quickly as every 15 minutes. This is very similar to what I experience in Ocala on Saturdays during the winter.
However, there can be huge waits for seats so checking Bravo Poker is a good idea.
There was a good turnout yesterday.
I hope the idea catches on. Unlike the bad beat, this promotion gives instant gratification and adds a spin to the games that is immediate. I also think it is a good pot builder at the lower level games because it adds incentive to play more hands, especially straight flush draws.
Mohegan had a high hand promotion on the days I was there, but it paid every 3 hours so generally only SF would win.

I was at Mohegan Sun over the weekend but could not stay until Monday. I had a good time, but did not come out a winner. On the live poker I lost $166 over about 11 hours of play, concentrating on 2-4 and 1-1. My trip report with a few interesting hands is here.

Its a great promotion, but the games play a lot different than normal.
I played 6-12 limit holdem (game rarely goes), the entire table agreed to no preflop raising, do what you want after the flop.
Later in the afternoon I moved to 1-2, and I just bought in for the minimum $60. This way no one could blow me off of a draw.
miss my draw, buy in for $60, repeat, repeat, repeat

They have been doing that at MDLive for the last couple months but I can't seem to hit. $2500 every hour for high hand aces full of tens or better to qualify, last time I went I got quad K's within the first 10 mins of the hour but just my luck a royal flush already on the board.

Since I better like a flop first game, I would like the first agreement.
I also like this idea for 1-2. I don't have the bankroll for large buy-ins and losses. I've often thought of buying in short as possible and quitting then I am ahead.
If course, if you win one hand and double up, then you are no longer protected for draws.
The 1-1 at Mohegan offers a good compromise. In that game often when you double up, you are still playing with folks with short stacks. It is a grand choice when there is this high hand award. I play all winter under those conditions. $500 every half hour every Saturday at Ocala.
