A friend spoke to IRS this morning. They said they have had it since January 15 2015. They will not release it for 6 months. ..at least.. if she is lucky she will get it then. IF not so lucky it could be 168 more days ..So... should be guaranteed for Christmas. Hers is a very simple 500.00 return.

Mine is complicated- I guess it will be Merry Christmas!

We both do our own -was told it would have been the same with a recovery service.

Flusher, I just plugged in my ITIN and it worked for me. I'm glad I did too, it was a wealth of information!

"We have received your tax return and it is being processed.
Any changes to the status of your refund will be provided here when available."

I filed back in January also (via Casino Tax Rebate) and no word here yet.

Since I also had to file for a new ITIN, I unfortunately cannot use the form to check status. Hopefully it will be here before my December trip!

I waited right until the end of April to file, and I had to apply for an ITIN number which I attached to my tax return.

Just got my ITIN number in the mail yesterday - so things are moving on mine! Only now will it actually go to the department that processes the returns, so from the sounds of the above I will likely be lucky to even get it by Christmas - haha!

So does anyone know the best way to deal with the ITIN number and hand pays in Vegas? Do I need to bring a copy of the official IRS form indicating the ITIN for the casino to recognize, or do you just bring the number? Do they put it on your file and not require it to be produced every time, or should you always have a copy of it??

Hmmm, good to know! I largely playing at one place now so maybe I can contact them in advance and see if there is something that can be done. I read on another thread about people having issues if the ITIN number wasn't typed on the W2G. Maybe something needs to be done above the level of dealing with the slot attendants...thanks for the heads up!

I filed for an ITIN along with my tax return a couple of years ago. I received notification of my ITIN ahead of getting my refund.

    Was it a W2G or a 1042-S? A W2G is for a U.S. Resident and doesn't use an ITIN.

Ironically, since I read that VC got her ITIN number already I sent a message of to the company that I used to file with to see my status. Within minutes they responded, letting my know I have my ITIN, and the link and the details to fill in on the form on the above mentioned site so I can check my own status...these guys are on the ball!

Haven't received my refund yet either. Was told the earliest I will receive it is July and the latest is December. Went through Refund Management Services in January of 2015.

I asked the attendent to make sure the ITIN number has been included on the form.

They told me "NO". They don't do that and they won't start doing it either. They said if I want the # on the form that I am to write it down myself. There was nothing I could do to make them understand that it was to be typed on the form, they disagreed and refused. This was at Flamingo and Venetian.

You are correct. Canadians don't pay taxes on gambling wins, lottery wins etc. in Canada.
But....we are taxed more heavily as a Canadian. We can't deduct mortgage interest either.
If you are a US citizen, but working and living in Canada, you would still have to file a U.S. Tax return, but you would not be required to pay US income tax.....since the tax rate is much higher in Canada.
If you were living and working in a tax haven like the Caymans, you'd be paying taxes to the IRS.

I used Casino Tax Rebate about 8 years ago and found that they were quite efficient (as you stated in a later post). My one and only form - a Royal Flush in live poker (first one ever in any game - Video Poker and Pai Gow Poker included). None since (forms and/or royals).

Thanks for the info - I'm playing mainly Palazzo, so that's not great news. I'll make it my plight the next few weeks to strong arm some upper casino management from the comfort of my home and see if I can find a way for them to get that info on file. If I get anywhere, I'll post it back.

From what I've read, we must have the ITIN number typed on our 1042S. I now intend to carry my ITIN card and probably should have a printed copy of the IRS rules in case the slot attendant refuses to comply. If need be, then management should be called. Now I just have to have the nerve to do this, it's not the polite Canadian way, and also to get a win.

IMO, we Canadians are a nice source of income for the IRS. We can't vote against anyone, so no problem for them.
