According to Vegas Chatter there will be a new CVS sprouting up by the Grand Bazaar Shops at Ballys.

Well, I guess company officials feel there is a need. :blah:

Yup. It's coming soon. How many CVS and Walgreens are on the strip at this point?

A bunch. Looks to be 6 Walgreens and 3 CVS. But to be fair, this is probably one of the better spots for one to sprout up. CVS isn't giving up without a fight!

They make a TON of money. I know that the Walgreens on the strip are among the highest grossing in the company, and the one by PH is the big daddy of them all. Pretty sure CVS boasts the same though WG is killing them. It's the opposite in my neck of the woods (Southeastern PA. I don't even go in WG here unless they have a killer sale. Can't blame CVS for trying.

You know...I was just thinking how the strip needed another drugstore.

    Not.

I would love to know what they pay per location and how much profit they turn.

I attached an article that gives a bit of info about all the Walgreen's and CVS's on the strip.

    http://vegasinc.com/business/2015/feb/12/got-beer-need-some-shampoo-take-your-pick-pharmaci/

The article says they on average are paying 2 million a year in rent per location. Not sure about gross sales but article says that they are the highest grossing stores in the chain. Another interesting tidbit is that the landlords have been selling the leased locations to other landlords for high dollars. The biggest one was the Walgreens in front of Venetian which the property sold for 71 million.

I wonder what the EV per hour is for those stores.

Cool - thanks. When someone asks me the "if you could go back...." question after I mention buying Apple and Google stock I say I wish I could have bought real estate along the strip. Crazy money there!

Yeah really. And I get the need to have the stores on the strip for convenience and it is better than the casino gift shops and their $8 bottled water...but I think we are at overload.

I actually like having such places as Walgreens and CVS within an easy walk from my casino. I can remember the days when there were NO Walgreens at all in the Las Vegas area and the only drug store options near the Strip were the White Cross up by the old Vegas World and the Landmark Pharmacy by the Landmark. Even the first Walgreens (the one at Charleston where the guy always seems to follow you) was an inconvenient drive.

They are tearing down the one and only diner in the tiny town where I live to build a Walgreens. Up on the corner from where I grew up in Philly, they tore down this beautiful 150 year old stone mansion and grounds to build a Walgreens.

Middle Atlantic folks will know what I mean when I say "How many fricking Wawa's can there be?

I like the Walgreens and CVS stores on The Strip and have no problem with another one. They're great to go to 24/7 to get all the little things I need as well as reasonably-priced snacks and supplies. Where else on The Strip can you get fresh fruit, sandwiches, milk and eggs at 3 am? Yep, Walgreens and CVS.

Although I do like Walgreens, I hear you on this. Walgreens and CVS are battling to have more and more shops, often across the street from each other, in order to get more of the business. Something has to give. Amazing that you never hear of a Walgreens closing, huh?

There is a temporary facade/sign up in that space between the side entrance to Paris and Ballys. There was a HalfPrice Ticket booth there for a year or so. Seems like there is a bit of parking garage that sticks out there... maybe part of that is coming down? See picture

That would make sense. I've wondered about that odd waste of prime Strip frontage every time I've walked by it. During peak season, literally 10's of thousands walk by it each day. It really could serve a much more profitable (and interesting) use.

Why do people hate the CVS/Walgreens on the strip? I find them handy and there is usually a decent line. I'm just surprised they don't have one more south. The south strip seems under served based on the current locations.

Oh no doubt they're handy - but I don't think they need to have one every quarter mile.

I agree--we stay at TI and having the Walgreen's across the street has saved us many car trips.
We will appreciate having a CVS close by to get stuff that we need.

if you look at the numbers each of the major hotels has thousands of rooms....MGM has 6,500+ rooms and if you have 2 per room that is up to 13,000 people and that is a decent sized small town

    Mirage 3,000+ rooms
    TI 2,800+
    Bellagio 3,950
    Venetian 4,000+
    Palazzo 3,000+
    and on and on

all of these places when even half full with 2 guest per room are like small towns in their population and it is a "small town" of people that are away from home, have packed light, are drunk and falling over or hung over, sun burned, not wanting to be sun burned, dry eyed, coming in contact with people from all over the place (so getting sick), eating all kinds of food from all kinds of huge restaurants and buffets (so getting sick or feeling stuffed) and they want a place to quickly go and get something that is "cheap" especially by vacation price standards to get rid of what ails them

and a lot of these people will probably not even take back all they bought with them they will throw the remainder of that sunscreen away ect.....so they have a constantly evolving small town worth of people all needing something quickly that they will not even use up and take with them.....that is too large of an amount of business to ignore or to hope that they go 5 blocks further down the way when they want something quickly

CVS and Walgreens finally woke up and are tapping into the hotel sundry/gift shop goldmine. I like seeing increased competition and product supply which in turn results in greater selection and lower prices.
