When people get comp rooms and they reserve a certain type of room, do the hotels ever downgrade the room without notice? I was just wondering about that.

My room/suite is always comped, but what I have requested and what my host Has us in is never guaranteed.

Ever? Yes. But I would expect it's infrequent.

Very, very rarely ever an issue. Anything possible in Vegas and it all happens at some point to someone. Not worth a second thought though.

There's always an escape clause when booking rooms that type and preference aren't guaranteed. I think the worst that's happened to me though is I reserve a king room and they only have 2 queens or I have to tolerate a smoking room for a night. Happens very infrequently though.

It really depends on your "level of play"...
    If you're a Big Player..believe me, you'll get UPGRADED at check-in.
If you're a nobody, believe me, you'll get the lowest room possible.

Yeah but they generally don't offer you more than they are willing to comp. One situation would be if you get a really nice suite but they have a VIP player roll in. They will drop you down. The other situation would be having on overbook situation on a class of rooms. They will accommodate the full paying guests and higher level players at the expense of the lower players. In the fine print of many comp offers, you will find that you are actually booking run of house meaning they can put you anywhere despite what you have reserved. But the smarter ones try to underpromise and overdeliver.

They absolutely don't hold your specific type of room. I find if you arrive earlier to check-in you usually get what your reservation request was without problems but if you arrive late at night they have frequently given all of the rooms in your catagory away to other patrons requesting the same type of room at check-in and either downgrade me to a smoking or 2 queen bed situation (I request king, non-smoking) just like was mentioned earlier in this thread...or sometimes move you into something nicer, like a suite (don't count on it). Once when I checked in just after midnight Red Rock put me in their Presidential Suite. Pool Table, His/Her bathrooms with saunas along with a guest bathroom, wetbar, kitchen, butler's kitchen...all because I showed up late! More often I get smoking with 2 queens. :(

I really hope they don't try to put me in a smoking room. My wife has asthma.

There is literally like a zero chance of that. It would be the rarest of rare.

Ah, and there is the REST of the question. Most folks here assume it was in relation to a suite or other upgraded room.

Smoking vs non smoking is usually not an issue. Would not say never, but rare.

My wife now walks into the room and stands in the doorway asking if we are staying or no. If it is smoky, I head back down to the desk for a new room.

My play has increased dramatically over the past year and I've also been playing in CET's online casinos, so I've been getting much nicer rooms, but I checked my reservation yesterday and they added "Run of House" to it, which as far as I know now means they are going to change my room. This is very concerning for me because I booked a really nice room.

My last trip I booked a comped room at Bally's in the new tower. When I checked in they told me I had to take a room in the old tower, both standard rooms so I guess not technically a downgrade in room category but it felt like a downgrade to me. But the room was free so I didn't really care.

Only happened to us once back when I was platinum. Was downgraded from Go room at the Flamingo to Fab room over NYE. No real surprise there as we weren't high rollers at all. Now that we're both diamond we have actually been upgraded more often than not at check-in.

I've decided that if they will only give me a smoking room then I'm going to call a competitor while standing at their desk and then go to another hotel. I feel really disrespected right now by this entire situation and I have a ton of cash that I'm planning to gamble with.

Define "ton of cash". If you're a big player.....they'll find you a non-smoking room.

How does $5000 sound to you?

It would also depend on the number of nights. A $5000 bank roll could generate a lot of theo, or very little.....depending on your choice of game and size of your bet.
I think you're worrying too much about the room. As others have said, it would be rare to be downgraded.

I decided to call Caesars since I have been feeling so concerned about this. They guaranteed that the room will be non-smoking, since it's a medical issue for my wife. That takes a load off my mind.

Glad you feel better about it. It does happen, but not likely to get room lowered. Haha, my last stay i wanted a lower value room because i was alone, to save comp dollars.

Any business with any common sense would surely accommodate the non smoking request (reservation) for a person with allergies/asthma. No way in hell I'll stay in a smoky room (allergies/allergies here too, it's bad enough in the casino I can't sleep in it, I'd be a wreck!)
