I'm curious about this forum's craps players: On a monster roll, do you prefer to be the shooter or just one of the players?

Don't get me wrong, I love playing craps and will gladly shoot when on a heater, but I must admit when a monster roll happens I would rather be one of the players. Why? Because I feel I can concentrate better on my betting strategies this way. I'm more observant of what's happening instead of trying to focus on my throw. I also have a bit more fun because I have time to observe people on the table. That's my reasoning, anyway, LOL.

What about you? Post your preference on the poll and let us know why.

I voted player, but I think now it wouldn't really matter. I press more aggressively and if I was shooting I would hope the dealers would see how I'm playing and press automatically. In the past I was a little more timid and have missed some of my own best rolls.

Never seen a player throw on a hard way for the guy next to the shooter.

Man, I wish I was there! 104 rolls is awesome, I dream for rolls like that. I know what you mean because my very first heater I rolled for like 54 minutes and made only 800 dollars.....

Since I'm a don't player I'm usually at the table by myself. So no choice.

I could really care less... as long as I'm at that table and got chips down.

$2 pass with 5x odds was my only bet...i made a few passes (obviously), but I was so focused on actually shooting (I was going for the 116 roll record, at the time)
A friend of mine, who is a low roller also, made $5000. (table max was like $500 on each number)
You could almost say I hit every number 10 times...if you started at $5/$6 on each number, and pressed every OTHER hit, you'd have pressed 5 levels ($5 -> $10 -> $25 -> $60 -> $145 -> $350) so your table spread would look something like $2000 at the end...and that's pretty aggressive to hit and full press every other time)

One thing while being the shooter on a hot roll. Tips! I was once shooting on a hot table. I was probably shooting for a good 65 minutes (wish I was at the cal so I could qualify for the golden arm club) and in between they had to refill the chip stacks. At the end of my roll some of the other guys gave me tips for the good roll. (guess that's why I love playing at MSS, some Hawaiians will thank you and tip you for shooting good). I was hitting the hard ways at times and so they made a lot of money on those bets, many times putting down a green chip and winning. One guy gave me a black chip and I probably made $400 in tips. The guy that gave me the black chip thanked me because he said that he didn't encounter a hot shooter the whole time he was visiting vegas. I think he won $12k so a black chip was a drop in the bucket for him. Me? I probably won about $900 but then I usually start out as a $5 bettor with 1 or 2 come bets and double odds.

Wish I could encounter that kind of game every time I go to vegas, would make it more fun.

Wtf Tim?! This almost made me cry. It happened to me in a somewhat similar situation when I was new to the game and didn't understand everything. Except I wasn't shooting.

Now because of being aggressive and knowing the game I'd make a killing.

As for the question? I don't care either way so long as I'm racking em up.

When I shoot and especially when I'm on a heater I'm in my own little world so I don't miss bets (unless I'm drunk - and by that point I've tipped enough where the dealers are auto pressing)

I've never thrown for a big heater. The best I've done is hit two points and a bunch of numbers. I hit nine 4s though with three of them being hard 4s. Everyone at the table made good money off the roll especially the fours.

Poor bastard. I would have at least put $10 down for you on the hard ways after about roll 25.

But, yeah, I'd rather be the player. I had a nice little heater my last trip, and it was nice, but I'd rather relax a bit, and really start to push my bets. It seams like I forget to do that if I'm the one shooting.

I'm getting a whole lot better at managing my bets when I'm the shooter and on a monster roll. I just don't enjoy the vibe as much since I'm concentrating on my throw.

With that being said I still would like to roll for over an hour at the Cal Downtown and join the Golden Arm Club and have my name on a plaque on the bridge between the Cal and MSS.

see I don't understand the player first mentality

as the shooter, I control the pace of the game, screw everybody else
I'll check my bets carefully then take and set the dice, I'd be less relaxed if some random goof
had the dice and was throwing a nanosecond after the stickman slid them over

slow down dude, this place never closes!
