Golden Nugget Carson Tower Rooms

Hello,
Just curious what everyone's thoughts are about the older Carson tower rooms at Golden Nugget? I have a choice to stay either in a Golden Nugget Carson Tower Room or a standard room at Main Street Station/The Cal for roughly the same price (after resort fees at GN). This is taking into consideration that I will be paying $10/per night for WiFi at MSS. Any advice? I'm still leaning towards Main Street Station cause I know for sure they have refrigerators in the rooms. Are the Carson Tower rooms much nicer than MSS/The Cal Thanks in advance!

 

Unfortunately, I've never stayed at MSS or Cal, so can't compare the rooms. But I've always thought the Carson rooms were inviting enough......my only criticism is that they had pretty small bathrooms. Other folks complain about the distance from the Carson Tower to the casino, but that never really bothered me. And of course the Nugget has the nice pool area, if that's something you might plan to use.

 

I'd take the Carson room all day long, mid Fremont and the walk to room is no real big deal

 

I have stayed at both GN and MSS. Both are very nice. Carson rooms do not have mini fridges. The rooms are are smaller at MSS. MSS is a short walk to fremont street vs. GN.So if you are planning to do a lot of casino hopping you will have to walk a few blocks off of fremont. But there is a sky bridge from MSS to California which makes the walk more bearable in the summer heat. The Carson tower rooms are a short walk to the casino vs. the gold room and rush tower rooms.which open up right i the casino. But not a deal breaker to me. . I personally like the Carson tower rooms. I always rent a car while in Vegas. and the GN parking garage is right by the Carson tower lobby. And now that they have the new rush tower they also have valet on that side of the building. I will actually be staying at the GN in the Carson tower this coming weekend. Oh and don't forget the pool at the GN. It is by far the best pool downtown. And a must see for the shark tank even if you aren't there to swim.

MSS has good video poker and cheap craps. The buffet is decent too.

I've stayed at both. IMHO, I would go with the GN. The walk from the Carson tower is not a real long walk compared to other casinos. You will not get a refrigerator, but you can request and pay for one. (Unless you need it for medication-then it is free) The GN room is larger and I thought the bathroom was bigger as well.
I stayed at MSS in December and felt that the walk from the elevator to the Valet was just as long as the walk from Carson to Fremont. Many times I never left MSS or Cal as I didn't feel like walking to Fremont. Whereas, the GN I do float all around Fremont.

 

Okay thanks everyone! I really appreciate your input and all of the information. MSS/The Cal have a promotion going on where I will receive $15 food credits per day so I think I may just go with that. But the idea of having a bit nicer of a room and being in the center of Fremont street is very tempting! Decisions, decisions...

 

And the Nugget has he much nicer pool. We decided to book both the Cal and GN for our upcoming trip. Can use the pool at GN and just stumble upstairs after degenerate BJ sessions at The Cal or MSS.

 

Last July I was staying in the Rush Tower and there was talk about the Carson Tower rooms being redone. Anyone know if they have started this yet? Thx...

 

Carson Tower rooms are best of the three, hands down. I've stayed at the Cal and MSS, and I'm a fan .But the better rooms are Carson Towers.

Like you said, the walk to the casino is not a bother, and can even be a noise reduction advantage.

Ask for a room close to the elevators and they'll generally hook you up, thereby reducing the walk.

We just stayed in the Carson Tower about three weeks ago, after a number of years of not choosing the Golden Nugget.

The Carson Tower rooms can be, literally, blocks away from Fremont Street, requiring lots of walking. The virtue of these rooms is that they're quiet. Fremont St, these days, emits a non-stop roar, day and night. IMHO the Carson rooms only grow in appeal, the louder the atmosphere on the street becomes.

Our room last month (#1082) was close to the elevators and just steps from the ice machine, as well. No hike at all, really.

And if you have a car, there's an entrance across the street from the self-parking garage that is right by the Carson Tower elevators. Taking a cab? No problem. Ask them to take you to the First Street entrance.

So, I'm definitely a fan of the Carson Tower rooms.

 

I think the carson tower rooms are nicest of the 3. Main Street is nicer than Cal. We used to stay at GN and then started staying at MS because the gambling at GN was not good (VP).
Main Street is a short walk to Fremont. If you don't have health or mobility issues and you're not a woman walking alone at night I don't see an issue with that. I'd say if you're choosing between Main St and Cal, go with MS. We stayed at Cal once and the elevators were crowded and the room wasn't as nice. Also Main Street will give you a coffee maker if you ask. Cal would not - no matter how I begged.

 

I have always stayed in the Carson Tower at the Nugget. They are nice and roomy hotel rooms and if you consider that to be a "long walk" then be sure you never go down to the strip hotels. We do not intend to spend all day in the room anyway and the additional cost to save a few steps just does not makes sense (all due respect to those that like more luxury in the Rush Tower) for us and our style of Vegas vacationing. I personally like a little exercise to burn of the great food and adult beverages I take in when in Vegas.

 

I stayed in the Carson tower over a decade ago (or was it 2 decades ago? I forget). IMHO, for me it isn't worth paying extra when you add in the resort fees. Plus I like to have a fridge in my room so that means I would have to pay more for the room. The Cal suits me just fine (btw, they were renovated a few years ago) and I will also stay at MSS if the Cal isn't available (sometimes the Cal doesn't have Saturday arrivals - too busy - so best to book early).

But I'm a little skewed since the Cal and MSS caters to the Hawaii crowd while the GN doesn't and I mostly play craps at MSS and sometimes the Cal (and Fremont) while I never play at the GN.

Don't think you can go wrong with either of the 3 properties IMHO.
