    Hello,

Was wondering which hotel you prefer to stay in between the California or Main Street Station? I stayed at Main Street Station for one night on my last trip and was impressed with the size of the room and how comfortable the bed was. I thought the staff was very friendly too. However, the elevators were slow and kept stopping on different floors for no reason. I am considering staying at The California for my entire upcoming trip in September. I realize they are connected by the walkway, but I did like how The Cal was even closer to Fremont St.. Are the rooms comparable to Main Street Station? Also, how are the elevators at The Cal? Any input is greatly appreciated!

I forgot to ask another important question: How is the WiFi service at both hotels? Thanks again!

I'm curious about this also, we are staying at the CAL next week. The last time we stayed in Vegas we actually had more fun at MSS.

Have you given The Plaza a consideration, the rooms are large, reasonably priced and the WIFI is awesome throughout the whole property.

Close to both The Cal and MSS

I have stayed at the Cal many times, but not Main St (yet).

Cal rooms differ a little between the East (older) and West (newer) tower. I prefer the West tower rooms which feel larger to me and have a full bathroom. East tower rooms show more age and the sink/vanity unit is outside the bathroom.

However, the elevators for the East tower are better located for the parking garage and seem to be faster and less used. The ones for the West tower by the Market St cafe get very congested at times and a lot of people seem to use them just to get up to the mezzanine level, rather than taking the escalator. This slows things down a lot.

What I like best about staying there is that it's quiet. Probably down to the older types staying, but it's always peaceful once you close the door at night.

Wifi has always been reliable. Fast and strong signal.

Just to add, $9.95 per 24 hours for the WiFi.

I'd stay that the property that you prefer to gamble at (between the two). I like MSS a bit better, love the open feel and cigar smoke (mine) dissipates quickly there. I enjoy playing at the Cal too, its not a huge difference for me. But the two casinos have quite a bit different vibe to me. The Cal does have more choices for in house food so if that's a big deal, consider that. I've always thought of the rooms between the two to be about a wash, some things nicer at one, some at the other (have stayed both places 5+ times).

I will also be staying at MSS in September. Have never stayed their and played very little their on my last trip. But they comped my room for 3 nights. Have fun.

We took a chance on MSS on our last trip and absolutely fell in love with the place! Staff was wonderful, food great, gambling (BJ) was lots of fun. WIFI worked well in the room. We're going back to MSS in 2 weeks and cannot wait to get there! We have not stayed at the Cal, but enjoyed the food and gambling.

I agree with Nevada, the Cal east tower rooms are comparable to the MSS rooms with the vanity area outside of the "bathroom". I like the west tower rooms because of the big full sized bathroom (big long vanity is inside the bathroom). IMHO, the east tower rooms are older so may seem more "worn". But I think both towers were upgraded a few years ago so the rooms don't need upgrading.

While I like to gamble and play craps at MSS (20x odds versus 2x odds at the Cal) I am partial to staying in the west tower rooms at the Cal. I like to be able to look out at the mountains and see snow on the top of them during the winter months. I also have a nice view of the west side of the county. The train noise isn't as loud as it is at MSS (and no freeway noise) but one drawback is that you hear the sirens going down main st. Not a problem as it doesn't happen very often.

One hint, there are a couple of rooms in the east tower (right when you get out of the elevator) that are larger and face the FSE. Some people like those rooms because they are so convenient to the elevators.

At the Cal I would recommend staying in the west tower rooms facing west, or the east tower rooms facing east. Unfortunately if you take the rooms in between the two towers (west rooms facing east and east rooms facing west) then you face the other tower and you may also hear the big a/c fans running.

I don't think you can go wrong with either hotel though and I would stay at either if the other wasn't available.

MSS I like better than Cal but there's not a big difference.

Thank you everyone for all your input! I think I'm going try The Cal this time around.
