Niece and I are staying on the strip - she plans to play a lot of poker games during the WSOP, I just want to play keno machines. I also will have my 18 yro daughter with and want her to have a good time. Can you give us advantages and disadvantages of both hotels? We want to be able to get out on the strip and see the characters - want good food, etc. Thanks for any advice!!

Either way, You are in a prime location for street entertainers...
    PH has Dunham/Britney
MGM has a comedy show, Ka (Cirque), and Copperfield

    Do NOT see David Copperfield.

PH has what I think is a cooler, hip vibe... MGM is a little nicer and has more to offer such as an amazing pool scene.

PH has Burgr, which is meh... Not sure of any exceptional dining options at MGM.

M&M world is nearby both, also a TixForTonight booth if you would like to save a few bucks on a show/dinner.

PH closer to the action on mid strip.

Gaming experience is similar, although MGM does have Sigma Derby which I think is fun.

Hakkasan is an amazing club at MGM, but $$$$

Random thoughts, but I give a slight edge to MGM>PH

Thank you so much for your detailed response! I don't think pool time is going to be important to any of us. Not sure about shows but nothing planned. Food and strip entertainment is probably most important. Since Daughter can't drink or gamble, I think sightseeing and strip action outside will be more important for her. Looking forward to more responses and opinions!

I think in your case Planet Hollywood is. You have the center Strip for entertainment and restaurants, shows, shopping, etc. with Paris, PHO Mall, the LinQ Center, Bellagio Fountains, Caesars Forum shops, a Volcano at Mirage, the Venetian Canals, etc.
Also, you could look and see who will be at Brooklyn Bowl when you go. She could see a concert like i did (Jane's Addiction).
I would stay at Mid Strip..........but there's also lots to see on the South end like Luxor, NYNY, Coca Cola, and Aria. Just use the Tram at Bellagio.

I've stayed at both and really like both but I tend to stay at PH way more often.

    For me:
    PH
    - The casino feels like home but I've been staying there for close to 15 years now.
    - I love to wander and the location is great to get in a good walk down to Palazzo/Wynn etc. On those hot days, it's easy to duck in and out of casinos when walking North on the Strip. No big stretches of open outdoor walking necessarily.
    - Love the vibe of the casino (hip, fun, lively... all those catchy phrases).
    - New 'flow-rider' at the pool. Their pool area is no where close to MGM but it's something new that could be fun. Basically a surfing machine.
    - Great location again - easy walk to Cosmo (also hip), Bellagio, Paris, Cromwell etc.
    - Love the mall that's attached to it. Not only good for shopping but good for snacks and stuff at the ABC stores (2 of them) there. Everything from high end to low end stores.

    MGM
    - Rooms (West Wing at least) are nicer than PH rooms overall; newer remodeling although PH has started to remodel as well but I haven't had the luck of getting one of the new rooms.
    - Casino is emmense - quite easy to get lost/mis-directed but people say this about PH as well.
    - Also lively but less so during the week just due to the size. If they have a fight or something going on, it's quite busy.
    - No direct mall access like you have with PH. There is an outdoor type mall with the M&M store (has a Bank of America ATM on the top floor in the store), food court, think it's a Ross or Randalls store or something..so there are some shopping options but not as many. Also an ABC Store there too for convenience shopping.
    - Actual location is a little less lively. There's a pretty good walk between PH and MGM (2 closest casinos on the east side of the Strip).
    - Close to Tropicana, NYNY, Excalibur which are a different tier than Bellagio/Cosmo etc. Aria is extremely nice and definitely worth hanging out at. It's one of my favorite 'new' casinos.
    - Actual gaming, I tend to win more on slots in MGM than I do in Planet Hollywood based on my last trip.

If the pool is not important I would go with PHO. My wife and I started at MGM but now the only place she wants to stay is PHO. Everything is such a walk at MGM whereas the casino at PHO is basically a big circle. Have the mall connected to PHO is nice and it is a short walk across the street to Cosmo. Also on the standard rooms PHO has a much better bathroom with a separate tub and walk-in shower while the MGM has a tub/shower combo and the PHO bathroom is at least four times bigger than the one at MGM.

I would say MGM. The Grand rooms are bigger and nicer. There are more food options on site. A roller coaster across the street. MGM has a monorail stop so if you wanted to go to the Linq it's much easier to take the monorail. I know you say pool isn't that big, but have you seen MGM's complex. They have a lazy river and waterfalls. It's a pretty cool complex.

The roller coaster shouldn't be much of an influence. For the price, it's one of the worst I've ever been on. Stratosphere thrill rides are much better.

Since you said the pool isn't a big factor, then I probably go with PHo for location. The MGM tower rooms and pool area are much nicer though.

Personally I wouldn't base the decision on what shows are playing where. You can go to any show at any hotel regardless of where you are staying. Same with restaurants. I base it on location/price/quality of rooms. Location in this case is a push for the most part. I prefer PH casino. Rooms are decent at both places. IMHO I would go with the better value, you didn't post the rates but I would use that as the main factor.

Having stayed at both properties recently, I'd go with MGM because the upkeep on the rooms is better and they have way better dining options.

There is only $1 difference in the rates - $47 for MGM, $48 for PH.

We did decide on PH as a lot of the poker games niece will be playing will be there, so she will have the room to go to on breaks. Also love the mall being connected and lots of stuff on the strip to do with my daughter. Thank you all so much for your replies!

Great choice; I'm sure you'll both be very happy with it
