Would like some advice

Hello to all... After 15 years my wife and i are finally planning a trip back to Vegas we are in our mid fifties and like to hangout and drink but just can't stay out till 4:00 am anymore ( hangovers are just way to painful now) .... We go to A/ C about 4 times per year and stay at the Borgata and not a High Roller by any means (start with minimum bets and raise according to how craps session is going wifey loves the nickel slots) so my question is since we will be staying for 5 days and 4 nights with a gambling bank roll of $4,000.00 (bringing $7000.00) can you provide us with some suggestions of where to stay on the strip so we can walk to different venues to see shows and just take in the sights (we plan on arriving on a Monday in October and returning on Friday. We would love to stay at the Cosompolitan. (Wifey loves the room pics with a terrace) but have some misgivings about booking that hotel since it maybe kinda young for us..since we do like to relax and have a few cocktails at the pool Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

 

So long as your room cost is not part of your $7K budget, I'd go ahead with Cosmo, with a fountain view.
Crowd will probably tend to be younger - that's not based on experience or anything...based solely on what I pick up here at VMB.
For more along the lines of our age group, I'd suggest Wynn or Palazzo. Your room cost will be similar, but you won't have the view that Cosmo will provide...but I'd guess your pool-side time will be much lower key...Palazzo has a great 'vip' open-bar/happy hour on one the top floors (or used to)...quite nice...comfortable...low-key...you'd like it. Wynn always seems a bit stuffy to me, but I know plenty of boomers who love it...so there's that...I'm just not one of 'em...

I go several times a year, but never with the wife....she hates casinos & gambling...So, ever since the Stardust closed, I stay & play mostly downtown.
But - hypothetically - if she one day said to me, "I want to take a Vegas trip with you!", I pick my jaw up off of the floor & I'd probably book something at Bellagio...or Wynn. If she would let me, I'd book us at the Nugget, in a suite...and take some of the room-cost savings and reserve a nice dinner overlooking the fountains, and hire a limo for a driving tour of the strip... do all of our gambling downtown...but again - that's me.

There are plenty of folks here who have more & more recent strip experience than I do...So, take my advice with knowledge that it's likely outdated.

 

Based on your criteria, I would suggest either center Strip (Bellagio, CP, Ballys, Flamingo, or Cromwell) or one of the hotels easily connected to the monorail (MGM Grand, Harrahs, SLS). If the goal is having easy access to a lot of Strip attractions, it is hard to beat center strip. A lot of places are within reasonable walking distance.

 

I am 49 and Cosmo is my FAVORITE place I have ever stayed, (Inn at Spanish Bay--Pebble Beach on the ocean is right up there, too). LOVED LOVED LOVED our terrace. There is NOTHING like it anywhere else in Vegas. I typically spend little time in a room but I spent much time enjoying that terrace.
DM69 & I stayed there & DM loves it as much as me. We love casinos with "youthful" vibes--PH, etc. But we were there Sun-Tues in January, and didn't notice particularly a lot of young people (no more than anywhere else besides clubs...) We could see the pool from our room--nothing super special, but decent, I would gladly hang there. (if I wasn't on my terrace...seriously, even in January I would go sit out there late at night in a robe!)

Any ideas what the crap table minimums are... That will have something to do with where we stay as well( albeit a small factor would like something with ten dollar minimum to start and go up as the session progresses provided that the session is going in the right direction of course)

 

I read the Cosmo is "younger" but hey that may give you some young spark?! They are beautiful rooms. I don't think the younger crowed would be a factor in your enjoying the hotel. I've never stayed there, but I did look real hard at it. If it wasn't so far from where the other folks I was staying with are I think I would have booked it. Another property to look at is Palms. Off strip, sure, but if you're getting a car then maybe not so much an issue...

I love the Wynn, but the Encore rooms are a bit nicer. I'd endorse either property heavily. Venetian coming in a close second. Minimums float around 10-15 bucks. Some tables I had seen in October had $25. I like to play where I stay and I think the Wynn craps table area is terrific.

Well Tony, the wife & I are both 70.... and we like staying at the Cosmo (twice so far - the last time was in 2013 to celebrate our twin grandkids' 21st birthday).

Definitely book a suite with a high balcony view of the Bellagio Fountains. The higher the better - in the real tower at least the 20th-25th floor - front tower at least the 35th-40th floor (to see over the tall Bellagio sign). We also like the Wynn properties and the Mirage - stayed there last Halloween.

The terrace with a fountain view is something to experience. I wouldn't let the "young" feeling discourage you. The casino and rooms are beautiful. Prime location as well.

I personally don't like the "young" feeling, however, I do fit in that age group. The employees just seem a bit more snoby towards me. I don't blame them with all the drunk young kids acting a fool. I am usually one of them.

If you prefer a more laid back mature atmosphere, I would recommend Wynn or Palazzo as others have suggested. They have always tolerated my drunkiness with premium service. If you want to be centered strip, go with the Aria. Bellagio wouldn't be bad choice either, but I heard their service has gone to crap.

 

I really think you will love the Cosmo. We have been staying there about twice a year for the past 3+ years. You can't go wrong with the rooms, as they are incredible and offer a great view of the strip and fountains. Believe it or not, staying at Cosmo during the week is actually pretty mello as far as young crowd goes. We have stayed a couple of times during the week for a conference or 2 and we have noticed that the crowd is actually much older than the Friday/Saturday crowd. There are usually business events booked during the week in their conference centers anyway, so the crowd tends to get more business like. We are in our 40's and love the Cosmo not only for the hotel, but also for the central location to everything on the strip. We used to stay at Wynn/Encore and always found that being so far from anything else we wanted to do way a chore, with Cosmo we really don't have that problem.

As far as craps goes, they will have $10 tables as well as higher min tables. I have tried to get into the craps vibe at Cosmo, but so far have not. I am not sure what it is, but I never really enjoy playing craps at Cosmo...not sure what it is, but it bores me. I do however love to play craps at Wynn/Encore so if I feel the need, we head over there for craps...the crews at Wynn are great and a lot more engaging it seems like to us.

A tip when staying at Cosmo, we always tip at checkin and get an upgrade to either a wrap around suite or a terrace suite...I don't do the sandwich trick, I just ask politely and the only time I didn't get an upgrade was last Memorial Day Weekend (the place was a zoo).

I think you will be surprised at how much you will love Cosmopolitan if you stay there.

 

Yeah i agree with others, go ahead and book Cosmo and make sure you go with the fountain view.

 

At Cosmo, you can find $10 minimums in the morning and mid-day during the week. If it gets too expensive there, just take the bridge directly across to Planet Hollywood and they always have $10 tables

 

Trip has been booked October 26 thru 30th at Cosmopolitan . Terrace studio with fountain view . We were leaning towards Cosmo for the view . Your opinions made the choice that much easier so thank you all. Cant wait to start drinking my Grey Goose orange on the terrace looking at the fountain

October in Vegas is awesome. You ought to extend your trip a couple of days so you're there for Halloween. You can play count the naughty nurses. Makes a great drinking game.
