    My Trip Report

    Eats and Events
Arrived late Friday, April 30, got to MSS around 11:00pm. Had sushi and a couple of cocktails at 777.

Friday, May 1. Late breakfast at MSS buffet. Dinner at the Cal, Redwood Grill, escargot appetizer and porterhouse steak dinner. Very good. Paid with slot points. Dinner was followed by Earl Thomas Conley at the Golden Nugget, very enjoyable. Mr Conley was having significant back pain and took a short break during the concert. During his break the band did their own thing and really cut loose with music ranging from Frank Sinatra to Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Saturday, May 2. Brunch buffet at MSS. Dinner was at the California Noodle house. Turned out kinda funny. Kim ordered Spicy Thai Shrimp which was marked as Hot/Spicy on the menu. We asked the waiter how hot it was and he said 4 on a 1 to 10 scale. ‘Hot’ is usually not an issue with us so Kim went ahead with the Thai Shrimp. It was a lot spicier than typical ‘hot’. I could tell it took her by surprise. Within a minute the cook was at our table (not by our request). He said the order came with a note of 4 for spicy, he went on to say they don’t use a scale for hotness, he assumed a scale of 1 to 5 and prepared it very hot. He made it a point to watch her take her first bite and noticed her reaction. He offered to remake the dish as normally served and had a fresh plate to her within a few minutes (which suited her for hotness). I had a chicken/shrimp/rice dish. Both were good.

Sunday, May 3. Breakfast was a comped MSS brunch buffet. Lunch was a Shrimp cocktail at Dupar’s and we split a piece of coconut cream pie. Best pie ever! Sunday afternoon we checked in to our free room at Mirage and saw Beatle’s Love (both from myVegas). Dinner was Outback above Casino Royale. Very good. 8oz prime rib, salad, and potato, $20.

Monday, May 4. Breakfast was doughnuts purchased at Lappert’s Ice Cream shop the day before (California Casino) along with our MSS coffee pot (we carried our coffee pot with us to Mirage). Next we went to the Riviera to pick up some chips. We got there around 9:30am, the table games were closed and they were shutting down the slot machines. Lunch was a myVegas buffet comp at Palace Station, pretty good. Dinner was at the El Cortez coffee shop, Jacky Burgers were good, service ok, atmosphere poor.

Tuesday, May 5. Laundry day. Kim started playing VP while I went to the MSS RV park to start a couple of loads of clothes in the washing machine ($1.50 to wash, 30 minutes), went back to MSS to see how Kim was doing. Back to RV park to put clothes in dryer ($1.00, 45 minutes), went to Burger King and picked up hash browns and burritos. Took Kim her food, we ate at the VP machine. Together we went to RV park to retrieve/fold clothes. For lunch we decided to try Chicago Brewing Company at Four Queens, excellent food. We had the Garlic Knots, Chicken wings, and Chicken Tenders, very good.

Wednesday, May 6. Once again we had doughnuts from Lappert’s, I would pick up the doughnuts and bring them back to the room while Kim and still getting ready. Lunch was Chicago Joe’s on 4th street, yuck. In the evening we went to CommonWealth for our Laundry Room reservation, very enjoyable but pricey. Dinner was at Chicago Brewing Company, excellent again.

Thursday, May 7, our last full day. Lappert’s doughnuts again. Lunch at Cal Market Street, good. For dinner we went to California Noodle House again. Another mix up. We sat at one end of a long table for eight, two ladies were later seated at the other end. The food was rather slow to come out. The ladies at the other end of the table were served food before us. We noticed them looking at their plates and talking to each other, but not eating. Kim asked if something was wrong with their order, they said yes, it had shrimp instead of chicken. They had our food. They let the waitress know they would keep the food and ours came out a few minutes later.

    Gambling.

Nearly all our play was 9/6 Jacks or Better Video Poker at MSS. We typically played quarters in the morning, half dollars after lunch, and dollars after dinner.
Coin in, $65k over 7 days.
Won $118 after figuring in 64 scratch offs.
I hit a $1k Royal playing quarters on May 5th.

    Ty,
Did you hit that royal on the uprights near the doors that go out to the parking garage?

Well, TY .... at least I know that you did not go hungry. Plenty of opportunities at MSS and the Cal, right ?
Your VP results looked very similar to ours at MSS (and the Cal), except we do the 8/5 Bonus. And just like your Royal kept you on the plus side, my spade Royal on our last day did the same for us.

    Thanks for the report !!

    Tim,
If you're looking out the main entrance we were just to the right. There were four MegaBucks slots between us and the main entrance.

    Buddha,
We had a little trouble getting comps from the boothlings. They would look us up in the computer, mumble something, then turn to the host. The boothling would say something like, "Your percentage is over 300". Then Gloria would print our comp slip without saying a word. It went this way both times we asked for a comp (the last time we asked for a comped breakfast our coin in was over $9k for the day). Maybe it's because we had 5 nights comped upfront.

Nice concise report unlike mine! Lol Sucks I just missed ya. Also nice to be in the black when the royal came on the lowest denomination. Were you playing all 3 denominations about equally?

Was the Riv pretty dead that morning? Sounds like it was a good thing you didn't wait till the very last minute on that chip!

Great report. Plenty of useful food notes, especially the Thai Shrimp. Nice royal. Nice week of VP.

We would usually do $3k on quarters and half dollars each. Then, in the evening switch over to dollars, as the trip progressed and we got accustomed to Vegas time we played longer in the evenings. It was probably about equal. I have my playing notes, I need to tally it up. Originally we were playing just quarters, we started mixing in half dollars and dollars on the third day.

The Riv was pretty dead. Seems like maybe 15-20% of the slots had been shut down. Of the ones still on maybe 10% of those were being played. A few people like us just milling around.

One BIG thing I learned before our recent trip. Some of the VP machines at MSS give 1 Slot Point per dollar in, others pay 1 Slot Point per 3 dollars in. When we first started playing at MSS the machined we played payed 1 point per 3 dollars so I assumed all the full pay machines paid the same. I figured out the difference a few weeks ago on VPfree2. We currently have 151k in slot points which equals about $250 in food credit.

    LOL
It was so cheap, quick, and convenient. I just don't like spending a lot of money on food, especially breakfast. Although I did screw up and pay $25 for the two of us to eat at MSS buffet on Saturday, I forgot it was the brunch thing.

9/6 JoB is a dollar a point at Boar's Head too because a lot of the other VP games are in the 98% range. But playing the units you did play should be even better for the comp game given timspeed's description. Other inferior VP variants and Keno are generally your friends on a multigame unit.

Nice trip. Did the laundry room at MSS RV park need a code to get in? Or is it open to the public? Always looking for new options for laundry on a longer trip. Thanks for the detail on the time/pricing.

I rarely play floor VP, but the 3-1 VP on the floor used to have signs on them telling you. I don't remember if it specifically stated 3-1 or just that more coin-in was needed for a point.

Ty31088. Was going back through the trip reports and noticed you used the laundry at MSS RV center. We frequently stay in LV for 8 nights and most of them are at MSS. I would gladly spend 2 hours doing laundry if I could cut down on half the luggage we bring. Could you give some more details on their laundry room? Such as how do you get to it, is it much of a walk, how would you rate the cleanliness ? Hope you or someone that has used the facilities sees this. Thanks,
