I received the following email yesterday:

    Dear xxx,

I truly hope you enjoyed your last visit to Red Rock Casino Resort. We know you have many choices in Las Vegas, and we appreciate that you chose our four-diamond resort & spa!

As your Casino Host, I’m here to help with any of your future needs! To handle requests, from dinner arrangements at any of our award-winning restaurants to room reservations for our beautiful accommodations and suites, think of me as your personal concierge.

If you're interested in knowing more about your complimentaries for your next stay, feel free to contact me at any time.

    Sincerely,
    (host name)
    Casino Host
    Office: (office phone)
    Cell: (mobile phone)
    (host email address)

As a previous resident of Vegas, I used my player's club points all the time for meals and merchandise. But I have no experience in communicating directly with a host or asking for comps that I couldn't get by swiping my card. Though I will surely return to Las Vegas this year, I have no specific plans to make a return trip at this time. Having said that, if I knew what they were willing to do for me, I might plan a trip that I otherwise wouldn't take.

If you received this email, would you respond? If so, would you call or email? If so, what would you ask? And lastly, why on earth would I need a host's cell phone number? I've never had a "comp emergency".

I'd absolutely respond (some context - I've never worked with a host, either, so I imagine I'd feel the same way you do if I got an email like that). I'd simply reply to the email and ask what type of comps my level of play warranted - that way I'd hopefully get an idea of what sort of Stratosphere I'm working in. Then maybe throw a hypothetical date range out there & see what the host would be willing to offer.

I always figure it can't hurt to ask for more information.

We'll be heading out to Red Rock in a few weeks for a 5 day stay. Like you, we have had no experience using a host. If it were me, I would respond via email for the convenience. Include your name and player's card number in the email. I would thank him or her for having an interest in you. Explain that you have never used the services of a host and that this is completely new to you. Let the host know that you are planning to take another trip out this year, but have not yet decided on any dates. I would then ask directly what you might be able to expect by booking through the host. I would also be important to know exactly what the host expects of you, if you decide to avail yourself of the host services.

You should probably then check the host offers against any marketing offers you might have. In the case of my upcoming trip, we have three nights completely comped through myVEGAS added to two nights at a marketing rate. Found the marketing offer by signing in to the Boarding Pass account. Our total for 5 nights will be just a touch over $100. At our level of play I doubt that a host could do any better for us, in fact I'm not sure a host could do much of anything for us low rollers. We will, however, charge most meals to the room and likely talk to a host the day before we check out, depending on our play.

Shifter is right. They are never at their desk. I have my host's cell number and he even told me, if you need to get a hold of me, call my cell.

If you plan on making a trip later this year, once you have a date range, I would respond via e-mail closer to that time. I would respond by saying thanks for reaching out to introduce yourself, I'm planning a trip to Vegas between XXXXX dates and was wondering what offers or promotions would be available to me during that time.

That should be enough to open up the conversation and they will send what they can do for you! If towards the end of your stay you feel that there are charges that can still be taken care of off the backend, you can text the host to their cell number to let them know you are done playing and ask them to review your play for discretionary comps and have the final billing prepared~

This has worked for me - hope it helps!

Congrats on your first host appointment!

**BTW - my personal experience is that they only gave me my up front my current marketing offer booked in, but offered to arrange transport etc (with fees) - then had my play take care of things at the back-end. There were no front end extra's beyond ensuring a premium view or floor, or maybe a snack plate at the room at arrival. The front end extra's seem to be more so after they get some play built up from you. Not sure if that is the case for others~
