I'll ask my host to make a reservation if it's for a large group and we want a private room. He'll also make the reservation if we are having dinner together. Other than that, I'll make my own reservations.

Honestly never, I always use OpenTable or in extreme cases I call them directly.

I just had this discussion with my sister yesterday. The short answer is, rarely. There are a few restaurants I know form experience that I probably want a reservation. And if I have a big group of friends in tow, I get my host to make a reservation. But most almost every time, I have found that I can just walk in and get a table, even at the finer dining places

What about restaurants where you hope to have a view?

Never in Vegas. Locally, mostly only if they are providing a comp for dinner.

I try to make OpenTable reservations when I can because I want the points. But when I do that? I try to have VIP call over to confirm the reservation -- I've found they make sure you get a nice table, at least at MGM properties.

If I know before hand, I will send over the request and it is taken care of. I have used the general VIP number or Skyloft desk to make day of or short request rez. Just easier and I almost always get the time I want.

    I agree...rarely. Exceptions would be

    1) Restaurant is booked at the time I want to go
    2) Large group and I want to arrange a visit by one of the hotels entertainers
    3) Prearranged for a very special occasion for a special table

All of this amounts to less than 1% of the time.

I don't think I've ever used a host to get restaurant reservations either. I think I used the Sky Suites concierge for one reservation.

I usually do it on OpenTable and can't remember the last time when nothing was available. So I don't see the added value of going through a host.

For most dinners I can't decide on a time and place too long beforehand. Whenever we decide when and where we want to eat I just do it on the opentable app on my phone. Its just easier and only takes a few seconds. Then it also automatically goes into my calendar, sends me a reminder, etc.

Occasionally, if the restaurant is booked or we want a certain seating. But rarely.

The only circumstance is if I am dining with him at one of his casino's restaurants.

From a downtown perspective now...No butlers, no concierge, I always used the host to book us a reservation. Now that Redwood and Second St have Open Table, I use that 100% of the time.

I don't have to ask my host, he knows what restaurant and what night of the trip we like to eat there. I email him the dates I'm coming and he confirms the room and limo then ask if a certain night is alright for the reservation.
