I'm making my first trip. By the looks of the hotel rates I'm expecting it to be packed. I'm trying to decide if it's Cinco de Mayo or just left overs from the fight that weekend. I'd be curious to hear others opinions also.
I was there last year that day and will be there again this year. I didn't notice anything different to be honest. Just another Monday in Vegas. The rates I found when I booked in January were no higher than normal. I think if the rates are now higher it's spillover from the fight, some plan to stay an extra couple of days. The fight wasn't announced when I made my booking for 5/3 arrival.
Spill over from The Fight. * I've been there during "Cinco" and except for some "hype" in and around ( bar specials ) the hotels..........you wouldn't think any special. * I think "Cinco de Mayo" --- is an "occasion" (?) -- holiday (?) --- the manufacturers of alcohol are trying to make into some big deal - here, in the states. Why not try to make it into another high volume alcohol celebration like Halloween, Super Bowl, St. Patrick's Day ?
Yeah, if there is anything going on in the Las Vegas area for Cinco de Mayo it'd be on a community level, not along the tourist corridor. A few drink specials, maybe Mermaids and Le Bayou will give away more beads... but thats about it.
Rates are really high at some of the hotels I looked at. They seem to normalize by either Wednesday or Thursday. I always like going during the week because it's much easier to low roll at blackjack tables (paying 3/2).
We go out for derby weekend every year so we're there for most May 5ths and nothing much happens. A few drink and meal specials, maybe a band, but that's it.
We actually didn't even realize what day it was until we saw them setting things up down by the EL Co. It was a street fair, with food, music, and crafts. It was a lot of fun.
